Asari Hoiru Butter Yaki This mediocre looking dish was a gem! Immerse in an uplifting olfactory experience upon unveiling what's hidden underneath the aluminium foil. The soup was so fragrant we could almost felt it on our tongue. Taking a sip brought us to paradise. The clear soup was sweet, but not in an artificial manner, attributed by the freshness of the seafood, and ended with an interesting buttery taste, which was quite unexpected of any Japanese cuisine. One sip would definitely have you longing for more.

The KIMI-YA Special Roll is also one of my favorite dish on that day. The rolls are made of avocado, omelette and cucumber roll with garlic mayonnaise sauce on seared tuna and black caviar topping. The avocado and cucumber roll brought out the flavor of the seared tuna and caviar very well and the savory taste from the garlic mayonnaise sauce pairs nicely with the sweetness of the avocado. I would definitely order this again next time.

One of the signature dishes here is the Wagyu Steak (120g). The best way to savour this premium cut is to just have it pan-grilled and our preferred done-ness is “medium” to “medium-rare”. Just look at that superb marbling and those juicy tender slices are to die for! They practically melt in the mouth.

The fresh pasta was definitely the highlight of the visit - the springiness is a quality that only occurs in fresh pasta and the tagliatelle definitely did its job to cling to all the saucy arrabiata. The arrabiata sauce had a nice consistency but was a bit mild for me and could've been better seasoned. The seafood was fresh and there was a rather generous portion of it.

Coming to “Eggs” choices. There are five to pick from the latest menu but recommendation wise, it is difficult because all are lovely. It depends if you love to have it in poached eggs, scrambled eggs or omelette. We personally enjoyed Single Poached Egg, Ratatouille, Fresh Basil, Parmesan on Sourdough Toast (RM20), as well as Sauteed Tiger Prawns, Two Onsen Style Poached Eggs in Glass with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Mixed Cress, Multigrain Bread Stick (RM30) – a dish that has got us impressed since our first visit, and still equally delicious till today. It can be a hard thing to find a slice of quiet, relaxed ambience, combined with quality, contemporary European cuisine near the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Even scarcer in the city are European dishes, whose ingredients are sourced locally as part of a farm-to-fork concept. This is exactly what Roost, nestled away amidst the bustle of Bangsar, offers. A neat, refined and remarkably fresh look into the goodness of local ingredients, elevated to pleasant heights by Danish head chef Albert Frantzen and his team.

The meaning behind the word "Roost" is a place where birds regularly settle or congregate to rest at night. Minimalist and rustic interior design which makes you feel at ease as you savour their modern European cuisine. To ensure that they only give their best to the patrons, Roost adopts a farm-to-fork initiative.

One of the reasons why I enjoy fusion food so much is because the amalgamation of flavors and textures, never ceased to surprise me. Malas- supposedly spelled as Malaysian Tapas but makes a lousy portmanteau when named Malas. If it isn’t obvious enough that it actually meant lazy in bahasa, well then one could easily identify that and see it in their operating staffs because they are definitely living up to the name of this place for sure. The service crew seriously need a massive encouragement (when we are the only customer) to get them paying more attention to the customers; let alone requesting them to walk over to our table. Dainty choices are there on the menu to spoilt the customers but if Malas were to be judged solely on this alone, it would be a breakthrough for local flavour for sure. Though very unfortunately, the rest of the dining experience left it a few pegs short.

Chicken Vindaloo with Rice, 12.90 ringgit. This was yummmm! Different but yummy. What you’d get on the plate is rice + half a thigh with gravy + papadum + cucumber. I loved the chicken and the gravy, loved it a lot that I had to request for extra gravy, lol. Yea, I am one of those who enjoys the ‘banjir’ effect, making sure every bit of rice has gravy on it. Good stuff, yawww. The, there were the papadums. Let me tell you, the crackers that accompanied the noodles were bad enough, now this, the papadums, was worst. I just do not get it – if it is soo bad, why put it on the plate? It had no crunchiness whatsoever, it felt a lil bit like how it was suppose to be prior to getting fried. Now this, I had to request for replacement because I love them papadums, which they did. The new ones were as they should be, crunchy. So yea, minus the papadum blunder, the rest of the dish was yummy. Loved it.

The first entree was Roasted duck skin with black truffles and fresh fruits. This was a killer combo; so kudos to the chefs! The crispy duck skin had a melt-in-the-mouth layer of fat underneath, while the meat was tender and had none of the gamey flavour duck is notorious for. On my second visit, I had spaghetti again, but Marinara this time. Again, portion was very generous, I couldn’t finish it. The marinara was a tad too sweet, but a decent dish overall. Service is friendly and I think the price is very reasonable, given the setting (air conditioned), ambience and food quality.
