檳城蝦麵 Penang Har Mee & 奶茶 TehC - Food today: 5 / 10
After falling in love with Chef Ammar's famous lamb shank a few months back, we've returned to dine-in at Restoran Chef Ammar USJ 4 and explore other amazing middle eastern dishes that they serve. All these dishes were personally hand-picked by Chef Ammar himself many of which we're trying for our very first time. Needless to say, we had a mind blowing middle eastern feast!
This is one of the most epic meals we've had in weeks. Chef Ammar serves Middle Eastern cuisine and specialises in Mandi Rice and Lamb Shank. The King Lamb Shank is one of their popular dishes served in the restaurant. Looking at tons of great reviews and recommendation by one of our friend, we just had to try the Lamb Shank at Chef Ammar for ourselves.
The place is clean and air-conditioned, although you will have to walk past the heats of the skewered meat at the entrance before entering the cafe.
I have also come across many 椰漿飯攤 Nasi Lemak stalls which offers the Rendang cooking to go with the coconut flavored rice (nasi lemak).
the stall offers Wan Ton Mee, Curry Mee, Bak Kut Teh and on Sundays also Har Mee!
全记茶餐室 Restoran Chuan Kee is at the corner lot of a row of shops where the other corner is 阿婆罗茶餐室 Restoran Apollo where most people head for varieties there as more hawker stalls over there.
Kelapa Oasis now offer a wide variety of coconut products and are continually developing new products.
Today's rm$2.30 "印度蛋煎餅 Roti Telur" isn't too oily, not too dry and definitely went well with the house thick Dhal, flavorful Curry, as well as semi-spicy Sambal.
"Klebang Original Coconut Shake" is often said to be "the-must-have" when you visit Melaka.
The rm$45 "中東卡布薩羊肉飯" Lamb Shank Kabsah" comes with well flavored but slightly hot and spicy dark yellowish to maybe brownish color, along with a big bone of lamb shank, superbly flavored and tender.
The rm$6.50 "干撈板麵 Dry Pan Mee" was quite good.
The cafe looks spacious, very clean and cozy; an excellent addition of Cafe choice around the Subang Jaya area.
Uncle Don is busy as usual with people coming for Beer and Food.
Satisfying grilled chicken chop, goes well with the Uncle Don's Home-made Chili Sauce, excellent with the Ice-cold beer.
I personally prefer the beef or pork pizza over the chicken pizza, but the thin crust chef pizza is still a good choice
There are many other items on La Cocina’s menu that we have yet to try, but I’m looking forward to it the next time I’m in Taipan; especially the paellas. Service is friendly, and although prices are above average, they are competitive in comparison with some of the higher-end Spanish restaurants.
Overall, although a bit oily, else it was not bad.
La Cocina is a Spanish term for “The Kitchen” or “Art of Cooking”, under the Head-Chef/Managaing Direct Mr. Jeganathan; it has been serving Spanish Food at USJ Taipan for more than 10 years.
The 叉燒 charsiew isn't the tender type and slightly chewy, perhaps no the best pork part for the charsiew recipe.
Today, for breakfast USJ10's "南京茶餐室 Kedai Kopi Nanking's vegetarian Economy Bee Hoon/Mee for rm$6 comes with fried Bee Hoon plus 2 vegetarian dishes of 咖哩蔬菜 Vegetable Curry and 假素食鴨肉 Fake Vegetarian Duck meat.
The stall offers 10 variants of buns from rm$4 - rm$6 with choices of Dry Meat, Ham, Bacon, or Taiwanese Sausage with or without Egg or Cheese.
when I crave for a proper taco, this place comes to mind.
Our Verdict Personally does not think is a place worth to visit for the overall quality of food and price we are having, can’t blame if someone does tell jokes about Las Carretas food is for the drunk (since people mainly went there for alcohol only), feels kinda disappointed and wasted for the fame they built for so many years. Do Not bring your girlfriend for any occasions (other than alcohol drinking session) in this restaurant unless you are looking for a “smackdown” session afterward when you reach home! 😉
Ambience : 8/10 (Lots of fancy décor that feed your eye while waiting for your food) Cleanliness : 6/10 ( I cant really see it the lighting is orangy and yellowish) Food : 9/10 (my hubby love it) Service : 10/10 (Very friendly and accommodating)
As you can tell, we definitely enjoyed the pan mee at JingZhu and prefer it over Lian Heng. Of course, taste is subjective.
We ordered Pan Mee Soup (RM7) which came with a generous amount of minced pork, slices of mushroom, fried crispy anchovies and plenty of sweet potato leaves. The soup base is bursting with multiple flavours from the sweet potato leaves and ikan bilis stock. The noodles’ (mee hoon kueh) texture was incredibly smooth, soft and mostly importantly not chewy.
Hokkien Pan Mee can be dry or soup version, was told the different is the minced meat, after eating I still have no idea the difference! But the Pumpkin Barley was really very nice.
Besides Pan Mee, the USJ 9 超級辣椒板麵 USJ Super Chili Pan Mee also offers rm$8.50 豬肉/魚/雞肉飯 Pork/Fish/Chicken Rice dishes and a variety of 小吃 Side Orders.
Perhaps should give a try to the Chili Pan Mee at the new USJ9's "超級辣椒板麵 USJ Super Chili Pan Mee" next time!
For the Dai Pu Mee, although with a price increase of rm$0.40, came with similar size and taste! Good that it has maintain the quality in their delivery, so far.
USJ10 The Brew House's offers a relatively pricey rm$43.80 "曼谷東炎"媽媽"麵 Bangkok Tom Yam Mama Noodle" that comes in a big pot with the portion good for at least 3 or maybe 4 persons.
The Brew House offers around 24 beer bites, a mixture of fusion, western, and Thai style from rm$10.80 to rm$26.80.
Today's Braised Pork Belly was good, liked it. It has been offering the same Value Lunch Menu since its opening, perhaps its time to put something new in their menu this year!
In the Indian food culture, Vadai or "Vada" are often eaten as 小吃 snacks or as an accompaniment to another dish.
For rm$20.50, on top of my banana leaf was 3 vegetables, and the extras were just the squid and fish fillet ball; taste good but just a bit pricey for today's lunch.
The chicken varuval had plenty of flavor and plus the meaty pieces I received, it was da bomb. The cutlets were tasty. It was crispy on the outside and dense on the inside. There was a nice blend between fish and mash potato. Nice flavors. Overall a yummy meal.
One of the reasons why this dish is popular in Ipoh, is because of the 怡保土產豆芽 Ipoh home grown bean sprouts known to be 香脆多汁 crunchy and succulent, thanks to the 自然礦泉水 hard water from the 石灰岩山 limestone hills.
Highly recommended by regulars would be their Loh Yee Meen.
Curry was to my liking, not too spicy nor salty even with the added sambal, nice!
At rm$17.90, it is a little pricey, but the portion of the pork chop is probably good for a 2 person lunch deal.
Simple, filling and warming, this is some serious comfort food.
