The noodle was okay but the tom yum flavor was rather mild – as in, you can hardly taste it. If I were to close my eyes and taste it, tom yum mee hoon would not be the first thing I’d say to describe it. That being said, as a basic dish of noodles, it was pretty nice, worth the RM 3.50, I suppose.

          除了 Cendol 和 Ice Kacang,店里还有各式各样的糕点和面包,Gula Melaka 戚风蛋糕软绵绵的,也很受欢迎,如果还未卖光不妨试一下,让它成为你这个下午吃冰的总结。

For folks in PJ, Kwong Wah Ais Kacang at Happy Mansion serves up a good version of cendol that hits the spot squarely. A bowl will set you back RM 5.50, and there’s often a queue on hot weekend afternoon. But if you love cendol the way I do, this should satisfy.

Cendol, 5.50 ringgit The Cendol here is awesome. I had a hard time deciding between the ice kacang and cendol as both these desserts are popular here but in the end, I opted for Cendol simply because it came with less ice. I wasn’t in the mood to dig through the mountain of ice that usually comes with Ice Kacang, so Cendol was a better option. This dish came with the usual ingredients – shaved ice + coconut milk + gula Melaka + red beans + green noodles. In my opinion, what makes this cendol different from many others out there is the amount ratio. All ingredient in the bowl came in almost the same amount, which meant that when what you have left is the flavored melted ice at the bottom, there would still be enough green noodles and red beans to eat. Usually, the shaved ice comes in a big portion, the other ingredients comes in limited quantity but not here, it was all in equal ratio. Tastewise – it was good, real good. I totally understand why Kwong Wah is always crowded. They do serve up good desserts.

The Ais Kacang (RM5.50) did not disappoint: the shaved ice was nice and fine, and it had a decent amount of ingredients to satiate one’s sweet tooth cravings. The fragrance of the coconut milk and thick, caramel-like sweetness of the gula melaka (palm sugar) bound everything together really well. Definitely hits the spot in hot weather!

Add on another cendol without any "gula melaka" (coconut palm sugar) because the previous two bowls of ice were too sweet for us. So we mix them together to lessen the sweetness. We will visit here to eat these ice again.

Verdict: Pretty decent cendol. Skip the Mee Siam though.

The chendol with finely shaved ice was a real deal for me - the fragrant gula Melaka and thick coconut milk was a winner.
