Somehow Coco Ichibanya ranks tops for me and Japanese Curry, SAMA comes a close second.
I liked the savory base and tender meat. I should go eat at Suage more often too.
The shop is clean and spacious, and is open on Saturday as well. Place your order at the counter and choose the mains, then soup base and finally the spice level before making payment. Ice water is complimentary.
Food at Sama Curry & Cafe is all about Japanese soup curry.
For the average Singaporean, I would recommend a spiciness level of 10-15. It lets you get a taste of the spice without it overpowering the flavour of the soup. We’ll be back to try the other soup bases in the future!
SAMA Curry offers food gratifying single dish comforting to both the soul and stomach. More importantly, NAHMJ finds it convenient for dining during rush lunch hours.

Overall, SAMA Curry & Cafe had satisfying mains and sides.
While the food is delicious, one more thing to improve is the pricing. Including drinks, we spent $57 for two persons, that’s 33% more expensive than what we paid at Tengawa Hokkaido White Curry.
As a casual dining restaurant, we enjoyed Sama Curry & Cafe generally. The food is hearty, price is reasonable and the soup curry concept is relatively novel in Singapore.
The restaurant wasn't even half-full and I waited at least 45 minutes for my food to be delivered, and they were completely unapologetic about it too.
Japanese curries are typically thick with a slight tinge of sweetness.
