Something closer to Chinese flavours is the Biang Biang Inspired Noodle (RM18) that reminds me of spicy pan mee. A simple yet extravagantly flavoured dish loaded with Szechuan chilli oil and toasted peanuts which is the epitome of soul food for me.

From the lunch menu, we highly recommend the Cured Fish Rice (RM30). A hearty, well-balanced bowl of goodness, we especially enjoyed the firm lightly pan-seared cured local mackerel, served on rice with a beautiful ajitama egg, scallion ginger sauce and herb butter.

Bang Bang Chicken , 22 ringgit. This dish was not on the menu the first time I visited. Glad I ordered it this time because it was delicious. This dish consisted of shredded chicken + cabbage + glass noodle + chinese rice wine + housemade chili oil. The only downside to this dish was that the glass noodle came in a really small portion, by small I mean – I literally took a fork full of noodles to transfer it onto my plate and there isnt any left. Just one fork full, no joke. That was the only bummer. The minute this dish arrived at my table, I was salivating. The shredded chicken was packed with flavor and spices. It totally had an oriental feel to it. There is a certain kick to it. You keep going in for more. It is worth giving this dish a try guys.

Reasons to visit: A welcoming, cozy atmosphere that is great for gatherings of family and friends. Contemporary Malaysian cuisine that is made for sharing and features fresh, local produce that showcases all that’s great about this country and its food. Everything we ate in this meal was delicious but if you can only order a couple of things don’t miss the Mushroom Frittata, Duck Rendang Hummus and Cured Mackerel.

Verdict: The setting and ambience are really captivating, making it one if the best historic jewels in Petaling Street. For Instagram enthusiast, I’m sure your followers will certainly drool over your double-tap worthy food photos of this cafe. Food taste wise, overall was a satisfying meal but some of the dishes were a bit over-seasoned with salt.

Cho Cha in Mandarin means back to basic for Cho and Cha means tea. When I first saw this cafe in Instagram, I was attracted to it old classic wood deco in the cafe. It was definitely an Instagram worthy cafe to drop by in KL. Overall ambiance was really up to my liking. Fusion and Creative dining experience, with back to 80's memory in the cafe. I will definitely back here again to eat again their Crispy Chili Squid.

One day, my friend/co worker asked me whether or not I would like to go with her to Petaling Street for lunch as she was meeting her friends who work near there so I said ok without knowing the name of our lunch place. The place turns out to be Cho Cha Foodstore at 156, Petaling Street. Cho Cha in Cantonese means "坐茶" - sit and drink tea. We parked at an open car park nearby which charges MYR4 for each hour with a max parking rate of MYR10 nett per entry.

They are not pretentious with ingredients and uses some of the ingredients that represented the locals pretty well so you’d also see some familiar ingredients like kailan. Apart from slightly salty, what seemed to appear a little cloying looking is actually not at all a disaster; in contrary, this creamy stir fried kailan was uniquely enjoyable.

Chocha Foodstore (just like Merchant’s Lane next door) is one of those: a beautiful place where you can nourish both your tummy and soul. We tried the flat ulam pesto noodles, mango salad and duck with barley rice – all were delicious and beautifully presented. To accompany all this lovely food we sipped the house-brewed cold tea and admired the pretty courtyard surrounded by fragrant herbs.chocha-chinese-noodles-pesto
