Steamed fish with generous topping of crispy friend garlic.
My friends enjoyed the meal and they said they be back for more.
They are also famous for their fish here hence we ordered a poached red snapper. The fish was sourced from Pontian daily. The fish was drenched in their savoury sauce and was smothered with fried garlic and chopped spring onions. Fresh, juicy and meaty. They're not only selling BKT but also tze char dishes. We ordered a couple of vegetable dishes to go along with the soup and fish.
The interesting thing about this place despite their name is that they are also very famous for their steamed fish. In fact, the Grab Driver who drove us, knew about the steamed fish but not the Bah Kut Teh. Another interesting point is that most of their dishes are steamed or boiled, eg the veggies.
Well, I am able to finish the whole pot of bak kut teh and enjoyed the fresh pig tail.
This had to be the furthest we ever ventured for Bak Kut Teh and the queues were insane - first, you have to jostle for a table, make orders with your selection of fish and the wait continues. Hin Hock specializes in steamed fish and bak kut teh which is different from the usual BKT stalls I am familiar with.
Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock 兴福肉骨茶 Address: Jalan Dato Mohammed Seth, Tampoi, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia GPS: 1.496813,103.702429 Business Hours: 8:30am to 3:30pm (Mondays off)
I enjoy its food in such humble establishment, though wait is inevitable, I still believe the saying that good things come to those who wait. I will highly recommend Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock to my fellow friends.
Stewed Pork Knuckles. The meat was not fatty nor were they overly tender. While this dish was unlike the Lor Bak I had in Singapore (which has stronger 5-spice flavour), I liked its provision of gelatinous mastication.
My wife would have enjoyed this dish. The tofu had that great texture which retained a comforting graininess, but surrendered to our bite without much resistance. The minced sauce was delectable and fulfilling and was the perfect companion to its tofu buddy.
