Angel Hair Pasta (Rm 27) Another favourite of mine, came in sweet and spicy punch due to the caramelised roast pork and chili flakes. This was really good!
Reasons to visit Toji Sake Bar: Beautifully executed Japanese food prepared with French cooking techniques; a dark, high energy, intimate dining and drinking space; and excellent sake menu with a sake sommelier on-site many evenings.
Reasons to visit Butcher’s Block: excellent, value-for-money and high-quality cuts of meat; house-made sausages.
Duck Leg Confit RM55 Seasoned and cured the duck legs then slow-cooked it in its own fat until it's meltingly tender, accompanied by smoked spicy chicken sausage & cannellini cassoulet with spicy beetroot chutney. That fork-tender, moist-as-all-get-out duck with the crispiest, crunchiest skin really brightened up my day!
Roast Pork Loin, 200g RM46.00 Roast Pork Loin, 200g was our random order, ended up becoming the best dish among the rest we had. Juicy, meaty pork tenderloin with extra crunchy, roasted to golden brown skin, dressed in brown pork jus with a side of Yorkshire pudding, duck fat potatoes, roasted vegetables and homemade apple sauce. So good you gotta try this out!
We also had the Grilled Kurosoi, aka black rock fish which was just flown in from Japan the day before. The fish had a lovely sweet and firm flesh.
Chocolate Bombe Dark and white chocolate semifredo with wild berries hidden in a chocolate bombe Certainly da’ bomb of the night, ending the evening with bang on a sweet note, lovely!
Ebi Tempura Set (RM 128). The set comes with a huge platter where you can have the awesome seasonal grilled fish and sashimi. The grilled fish is just superb with the flaky texture and fresh. The sashimi comes in 3 kinds and they are all air flown all the way from Japan. I love the cut of the sashimi. Fresh and huge cut. Every piece is so fresh and delicious. I don’t mind for more pieces of sashimi where they are superbly good and delicious. The set comes with a bowl of rice, warm miso soup and also a velvety chawanmushi.
To my dismay, the main items, the Bara Chirashi and Salmon Ikura were ridiculously small. I eat bara chirashi very often and this is by far the smallest one I've had (so little rice, and sparse topping!). The salmon in the Salmon Ikura were also very thinly sliced. I'm not sure if this is their regular lunch portion or if it's a drastically decreased portion due to their promo (compare it to the photo in their menu). What a letdown.
Reasons to visit: intimate space; warm neighbourhood feel; best days to visit are Tuesday and Friday for the freshly delivered seafood; besides the obvious sashimi, beef lovers would do well to give the Wagyu Shioyaki a try too.
