Satay celup is a unique food experience that can only be found in Melaka. It involves dipping a skewered food of your choice into this boiling hot pot of spicy peanut sauce right in the center of the table. And today we’ll be visiting one of the most famous spots in Melaka for Satay Celup called Ban Lee Siang.
*The few must-have ingredients based on our experience: brown squid, fried tofu skin, kangkung, pork ball, bacon slice, and quail eggs.
Tips from 食 La Vie; parking will be an issue during peak hour so be patient in finding one. Do not visit this restaurant if you are someone who is very concerned of hygiene issue. If you are someone who favor satay, we have a post of Kajang’s satay here.
Food is cheap and good, but we are just too full.

Is the Famous Putu Piring Tengkera Melaka worth the visit? It is definitely must visit and must try. Go early to avoid the long queue and RM 1.30 is worth it as you pay for quality food. The over 30 years old Putu Piring is well up to their reputation.

We had tried most of those Nyonya Kuih offered in Baba Charlie and honestly, it never fails to continuously astound in every aspect, just truly a pleasure while enjoying each one of them especially for ondeh-ondeh, Rempah Udang, Kuih Abu Sagu, and Pulut Seri Kaya, arghh still keep craving for more up till date.
Baba Charlie is an icon of Melaka that has been churning out delicious Peranakan / Nyonya kuihs since 1988. Although located further from the main city, it ...
We got a packet of the onde-onde (RM5.30 for 10 pieces)- this was our favourite of the lot as the balls were soft and bursting with gula melaka
The dog cafe I visited at Melaka was six kilometers away from our hotel and me being me; I searched around the area for food so that I technically wouldn't waste the trip.
Most memorable meal during this trip. Chicken satay is juicy, and pork satay is crispy. Love the pineapple sauce. Recommended. 30 minutes queue.
I have always enjoyed every visit to Hai Heng and it will probably stay that way.
The satays here at Xiang Ji Satay House had a nice lean to fat ratio; they were tender, juicy and flavorful. I especially loved the pork satay, which comes with alternate chunks of meat and thin strips of fat. The fats were nicely crisp, as they get grilled over the hot charcoal embers.
The charcoal stove grilled pork skewers were spot on, well marinated with a cut of fat sandwiched in the middle that provide sufficient “moist” to the palate. I like the peanut sauce with appetizing hint of sourness (pineapple is added, I assumed again LOL) and would beat the Kajang satay’s peanut sauce.
Aiming for their pork satay, we were one of the very first customers to arrive. Eyeing on those well marinated pork chunks on the skewers being placed on burning charcoal stove with the right balance of lean meat and fats :)
Overall, it is a really nice place to chill when you have nowhere to go at night in Melaka.
We appreciate the large seating area which provides enough space for visitors to wander around the cafe comfortably or even do some work with your laptop without having to squeeze.
Backlane Coffee is a nice and cozy cafe place in the Jonker Street of Melaka, serving all kinds of desserts, coffee, tea and juices.
Nancy’s Kitchen is not bad an option if you are looking for a Peranakan restaurant in Melaka.
Overall, Nancy's Kitchen has a home style Peranakan Food with reasonable pricing.
Overall, it is still a recommended restaurant whenever you have the Peranakan food crave in you. Just stick with their signature food and you will avoid any disappointment. Total Damage: RM122.00 Ambiance: 3/5 Service 3/5 Food Serving Speed: Moderate Recommended?: Yes

Peranakan culture is breathed in Melaka, one of Malaysia’s oldest cities. A soothing and comfort escape from big cities, it hides underneath a foundation of vibrant and eclectic multiculturalism that dates back hundred of years. With Melaka’s flourishing economy under the British colonial rule as a port city, the blooming economy paved the way for the rise of communities in the late 1930s.

Our very first Hainanese cuisine meal starts off with a plate of Sweet & Sour Pork Skin (甜酸猪皮) RM12.00 which consists of stir fry pork skin with pineapple and green scallion. Tastes sweet and sour as it promotes while giving us a refreshing kick on each bite (thanks to those pineapples), pork skin is cooked till perfection where it absorbs every drop of the essence and always be ready to burst out while you’re chewing on it – truly a pleasure to savor and definitely a highly recommended dish! 😉

That's why I'm all pumped to talk about a brand new restaurant in Malacca- The Kapitan Kongsi Hotel and Restaurant. Special thanks to our friend Kim Yong for taking us to this new gem of Malacca, which us, who live away from the state wouldn't have known otherwise.
Hey guys, I haven’t done a food review for a long time so here’s one! Today’s restaurant is Kapitan Kongsi restaurant which is located at the new side of Kota Laksamana in Melaka (Malaysia). In general it serves Baba Nyonya cuisine but it does serve the typical butter kaya toast in the morning.
Recently, we went to Melaka for a short makan trip. Our trip was just a 2 days trip and so, we decided to book a hotel for a night. After searching for the best hotel deals on HotelsCombined, eventually we settled for Kapitan Kongsi Hotel. It had great reviews, felt unique and fit our budget perfectly. Kapitan Kongsi Hotel is sort of like a boutique hotel with a modern built architecture inspired from the late “Straits” Eclectic style between 1910’s and 1940’s. It is strategically located in Taman Kota Laksamana Jaya which is a relatively new commercial area. Most of the shops were still vacant but that did not stop people from coming here. This charming hotel is beautifully decorated with furniture, knick knacks and posters from the 1970’s to 1990’s.
The room looked new and clean. Furthermore the interior is nice and modern. I like the color combinations too. Premier Room sized 29 m²/312 ft² with 1 single bed and 1 queen bed.

I do not mind revisiting this braised duck noodle place if I happened to be back in Malacca for breakfast again.
After a short while of waiting, here comes our Tengkera’s Duck Noodle RM4.80 serves with flat noodle and shredded braised duck plus another bowl of clear herbal duck soup. The overall taste is heavenly good, flat noodle is smooth and flavorful (mild tinge of mixed herb and spices), while braised duck meat is superbly tender and juicy, don’t have to worry about bones issues since the main toppings are being well-taken care of, the additional herbal duck soup (sweet, robust pack with duck flavor) pretty much just adds up the merits for the dish. 😉
Tengkera (东街纳) Duck Noodle is known for the Malacca-style Duck Noodles. In Chinese, it is call Duck Noodle Under The Big Tree (大树下鸭面).
In a nutshell, I really did not expect that we might fall head over heels for their many fresh porky cuts. And that definitely warrants another return soon!
Fan (Abanico- MYR 43.90) Comes with homemade meat salt, potato cake, pickles and garlic confit. After just the first bite, I could immediately crown this as my fave! Not only that the meat was succulently juicy and tender, but there was this unexplainably sweetness that got heightened up as you chewed on.
(The pulled pork burger though, we were very impressed with as it was so tender and juicy)! Overall the ambience was cool and the staff friendly. That by itself made it worth the time to visit and dine here.
这算盘子的口感很Q, 搭配木耳、 虾米、 肉末味道一极棒。
A brief two days spent in Melaka left me wanting more of the local favourites rather than the tourist haunts. Hakka Zhan is famous for their mutton steamboat
Story about their signature clay pot mutton.
If you are in the Kota Laksamana area and interested in trying authentic Asam Pedas, visiting Asam Pedas Claypot Restoran Kota Laksamana could be a great dining option. Enjoy your culinary adventure in Melaka!
All in all, Salud Tapas is a good place to experience Spanish food in Melaka, especially if you’re not familiar with the cuisine.
