I was also reminded next round not to miss the big blanched cockles here which are not available to the masses but only to select restaurants.
We wanted a dish that comprises all Seafood elements... and we were introduced to their White Tom Yum. It consisted Prawns, Squid and chunks of Fish Meat; flavor was robust with a good balance of sourness and saltiness, with a gentle spicy kick. With the fresh, juicy Seafood, the White Tom Yum was quite addictive and best spooned over rice.
Yogurt Chicken Poke Bowl was more interesting.... the blanched Chicken meat was dressed in a Yogurt sauce and served over Sriracha Mayo. It carried a hint of creaminess with a touch of spiciness, the whole combo was appetizing and all elements amalgamated perfectly
The main focus here is probably the Chicken Thigh and Pork Belly "meat patty" as well as the killer melted Cheese sauce. Beautifully grilled, both the Chicken Thigh and Pork Belly carry a delightful charred aroma... with reasonable seasoning, they are good on its own.... even better with strings of melted Cheese. The only drawback was the overly drizzled sauce. While it may not sport the most refined flavors and textures, Lip's Burger offers great value for money in terms of serving portion.
Here's the location.
Air Itam Sister Curry Mee Chee Cheong Fun at Air Itam Penang Malaysia
The famous Sister Curry Mee was founded by two iconic sisters in Air Itam, Penang since 1946. They're now in their late 80s and the stall has been taken over by their grandniece. We're fortunate that the curry mee stall will continue to serve this iconic dish in its original recipe brought down from the sisters
The soup not really thick but it have the aromatic hint of coconut and curry blend in it. The bowl of curry mee is served with the noodles, cuttle fish, coagulated pig blood and tauhu-pok and the curry paste. Indulge this sinfully addictive bowl of curry noodles and you will totally in love with them.
Located in the heart of Farlim, Penang, Genting Restaurant stands as a testament to the rich culinary heritage of the region. With its unassuming facade and inviting aromas wafting through the air, this eatery has been drawing locals and visitors alike for its delectable Jawa Mee. What truly sets this place apart, however, is not just its scrumptious offerings but also its unwavering commitment to providing affordable street food without compromising on taste or quality.
This so cheap. Where else can you get such cheap Jawa Mee? Haha
Well everything here is good and the pricing is also very reasonable. Thumb up to Dragon Phoenix Seafood.
Fatty Dragon Curry Mee, originally from Kuantan Road. Is now operating at Genting Cafe. Packed with patrons and diners, this is the curry mee that need to queue for the flavorful indulge.
Overall, this CCF is not for us. But it is quite popular as most tables had a plate when we were here. If you’re in the area, do give it a try as it might be suited to your tastebuds. Taste is subjective and personal, after all.
The Curry Mee costs a whopping RM 4 for small portion, and if you want prawns, recommended to order the medium one at RM 4.80. The chilli is just incredible but it was not as oily as others. The best thing about Penang Curry Mee is we have a lot of ingredients like pig blood, cuttlefish, bean sprouts, cockles and beancurd. By 12.30 pm, they have finished 1 big tank of curry soup.
Dining here is nice, in terms of food, there are a lot of different dim sum to choose from. Basically, you will be spoiled for choice here. Every types of food that a Dim Sum restaurant should have Maxim Dim Sum has it. It is not only that they have many different types of Dim Sum but the taste is tasty too. I enjoy every dish of Dim Sum that i order ranging from the Shumai all the way to their Egg Tart.
Lo Mai Kai (Glutinous Chicken Rice) is my favourite dish so it is a must to order it.
Yam cakes and egg tarts were probably saviour of the morning but the rest, particularly chee cheong fun and har gao definitely need some refinement in terms of taste
The signature at Genki Canteen is Hokkien Mee and Nasi Lemak. The cafe offers Signature Hokkien Mee at RM 9.90 (which is about double of usual hawker price), while addition of pork rib and prawns to the noodle have the price tag of RM 15.90 and RM 16.90 respectively. Genki Canteen's Hokkien Mee are nicely presented, although it did not differ much in terms of the ingredients offerings and portion. The taste is good though, brimming with nice and rich prawn scent and sleek in taste.
The Signature Hokkien Mee is probably one of the best sellers on the menu. We had the basic one at Rm 9.90 per bowl and it was.... basic. While we must agree that it was a decent Hokkien Mee (discernible Prawn flavor with a hint of Porky notes), the portion was small.
A very well prepared Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak !
Passions of Kerala is one of the few places in Penang where diners can enjoy a South Indian-style meal of rice on a banana leaf. The banana leaf set comes with three different vegetables as well as pappadom. These vegetable items are free to flow for a refill while diners are allowed to order varieties of side dishes. One of the signature dishes here is the fried bitter ground that almost exists on most of the tables here. The spicy and appetizing stir fry oyster mushroom is also another selling point of this restaurant where these mushrooms are plugged fresh from their farm. The mango lassi is also not to be missed at this place as they are thick and refreshing.
I would come back here again and again just for their Banana Leaf Rice .. !!
The bowl contains several thin meat slices (肉片) which I feel is reasonably good. There is also some braised chicken feet (卤鸡脚), but there is little meat and I don't think it really helps in terms of flavor. Other ingredients in the gravy are a braised egg (卤蛋), pork lard (猪油渣), bean sprouts (豆芽) and fried onions. In particular, I like the use of pork lard as it gives a delightful appeal to the dish.
This Loh Mee Outlet normally always full of customer. You might expected sharing table with other people.
One of the best things is customers are allowed to add any chopped Garlic and Chili Paste into their noodles freely. It offers more flexibility especially to chili lovers like me.
One of the food court that provide many delicious local food, there are Hokkien Mee, Lam Mee, Wan Tan Mee and etc...
My verdict : With its 4 ringgit per bowl price, everything’s worth it! The sour tamarind sauce, the salty and thick fish stock blended so well with chillies and the herbs and noodles and everything on it! Thankfully, I had the chance to understand the logic of CNN in naming Penang Assam Laksa as 7th out of 50 Most Delicious Foods in the World! It was indeed, delicious!
My Penang laksa. The soup base is very flavorful and filled with generous amount of flaked mackerels. The 'ha-ko'/ thick prawn paste amplify the flavor of this dish much, much more. Sweet, sourish taste with refreshing mint and onion slices stimulates all my taste buds!
Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the place despite it being the original Chu Yoke Weng outlet. Will give this another try when I’m in Penang to see if the duck is of such standard.
Chu Yoke Weng Restaurant "豬肉溁琵琶鴨專賣店" was one of the well known duck rice shop around southern part of Penand Island. We decided to give a try on one of the outlets at Jalan pekaka sungai Nibong.
Anonymous said... My wife & I ordered pi pa duck & fried dumplings as recommended by the lady taking our order. I had 4 dumplings & my wife had 1. I started ...
Happy Cafe, Taman Pekaka is one of the family-friendly cafes that has been around for more than 30 years. It has chicken rice stall on one side and duck rice stall on the other side of the Cafe. The chicken rice here is Hainanese style with soft and jelly-like skin while the roast duck is Cantonese style with crispy skin and juicy and tender meat. Besides these 2 stalls, there are pan mee and hot plate noodle stalls as well.
Another savoury dish to enjoy at Happy Cafe during dinner hour will be Claypot Chicken Rice. It is best eaten when you request for for salted fish top up, though we feel there could be more dark soy sauce in the rice to give it a kick. Add on some chili for a spicy sensation.
不过,随着《自在饭店》因为疫情影响,宣布结业后,心里还是感到不舍和唏嘘。
Overall, Zi Zai Restaurant offers a nice dining experience and offers a reminiscence of home cook style dishes, as their restaurant signboard also suggests the title "ko zha bi". The taste still lingering in my taste buds during recalling and it truely reflects the authentic home cook dishes. Price and quantity is user friendly at the same time and it would be an excellent choice for family dine in. Plenty of parking spaces available but the numbers of tables in the restaurant is somehow limited but I believe extra tables can be added at the external area of the restaurant.
Zi Zai Restaurant's started by chef, Mr Tan Hock Chai who strive to offer the cheapest and most delicious food for his customers. Signature dish of this restaurant is the "Poon Choi" (basin dish) which you need to make reservation few days in advance. The Poon Choi that can be found here at Restoran Zi Zai boast some very exquisite items, which includes Abalone, Roasted Duck, Braised 3 Layers Pork, Steamed Chicken, Sea Cucumber, Fish Maw, Mushrooms, Hock Chew Fish Balls, Fried Fish Fillets, Sweet & Sour Prawns and vegetables such as Broccoli, Chinese Cabbage, Yam and Sweet Turnip. Advance booking require if you are here for "Poon Choi".
A hot pot of Tomyum served piping hot with assorted seafood did sooth our crave for Tomyum, a little sour that compliment with tolerable spiciness. Under the air conditioned space, no sweat to finish the whole pot
Overall, most dishes that I tasted here today pass with flying colors.
Wang Thai at All Seasons Place has been serving up Thai food for the residents in the neighborhood for quite some time but recently, there's a stiff competition for Thai food, particularly within the commercial building of All Seasons Place. The new addition- Chang Thai Restaurant is the new venture behind Tomyummy Noodle House. It has plenty of Thai-influenced dishes to offer- from Kerabu to Fried Fritters, Tom Yum, Seafood and classic stir fry dishes. But prices are on the higher side and the food quality is merely passable-satisfactory.
This Muslim-Friendly Korean Cafe in Penang is run by a Korean family
Korean Cafe Shwim Pyo is a very simple cafe
