Apart from the smoked duck and Hainanese chicken, you can also find char siu, siu yuk, roasted chicken, sesame chicken and lemon chicken here.
Shi Mei Hainanese Chicken Rice Style is indeed standing up from the rest with its bean sprouts and the sauce used. If you are looking for a style away from our conventional chicken rice meal that is ladled with soy and sesame sauce over the chicken meat, you might want to give this a try.
This was a very popular chicken rice stall near Gombak MRT Station – a local favourite. The roast chicken was quite tender and fragrant, while the white chicken was less tender and was devoid of skin (again!). The rice was more grainy and 粒粒分明, and had good chicken and garlicky fragrance, going well with the potent chilli. A very serviceable rendition for residents around the area.
After giving the mee pok a good tossing, I find the bowl a little dry. It tasted fine actually but I like my noodles saucy so, I scooped some soup in. Unfortunately, that compromised the flavors and I had to add in the soy sauce and chili padi.
名副其实的排队美食 – 20 minute queue early in the morning for common breakfast fare. The bee hoon was soft and moist; the fish fillet was hot and tasty, crispy outside, tender and sweet inside. I thought the chicken wing and luncheon meat were good but quite standard fare – sufficiently but not outstandingly crispy and tasty. Overall a good fresh plate, with moderate flavours.
One of the better places for Chinese food and non spicy grilled fish
The congee is flavorful enough on its own without further enhancements needed. I added some soy sauce which made it slightly salty.
Overall, the dry version of BCM at Ah Kow is something that you must try once. It is unfortunate that the overall standard has slightly decline over the years.
Things could turn around if they fry the fried fish and pork balls in small batches to retain the freshness and texture.
The place is pretty cool and industrial, a good meeting place.
The coffee was good as well, but not better than its hip cafe competition, which is getting quite tough these days in Singapore. Service was polite and helpful. It is certainly a nice cafe but in this case, the saying that “the thrill was in the hunt” may possibly apply.
Cool cafe. Smooth latte. Free parking.
Nevertheless, once the no dining-in rules are relaxed, I am going to try it again to see how it compares.
Having enjoyed the modern twist on one of my favourite foods, I’ll be back to get my hands on their Hokkien Mee with Sambal-based toppings soon!
If you are in a mood for Hokkien Mee with a twist, you may want to pay a visit to Mian Wang 1971 and try out their different types of Hokkien Mee.
They are located at Chu Lin road which is around the Hillview Ave area. They are an Italian restaurant serving a variety of Italian dishes such as pasta, risotto, pizza, etc.
iO Italian Osteria is not that far away, but I'm happy to eat here again. Being such a cozy neighborhood place, the service was warm and fast.
The quality was decent, the service was fast, and the prices weren't as outrageous as they could've been.
Beside selling the noodles, if you like their handmade fish cakes, you can also order separately as an additional topping to your meal.
The noodles were tasty and springy with a bit of the sweet ketchupy and lardy traditional flavour, somewhat reminiscent of a childhood flavour. The handmade fishballs were bouncy and had a nice fish flavour. Overall worth queueing for.
If you love fishball noodles, you must give this a go.
Erikos Fronted by one Kenny Lim together with two longtime chums who themselves are F&B old stagers, Erikos revved to life just las...
The wait for our dishes were more than 30 minutes on a Weekend. Despite that the coffee shop has no crowd, Erikos.sg has quite a number of food deliveries order in the queue. Was it worth the wait? Well, there is better western fare in the distreet.
It’s a shame that I live way too far away from Bukit Batok because Erikos.SG does serve up pretty good-quality Western nosh at affordable prices. Easties needn’t worry though, as they also have an outlet in Bedok!
It wasn’t the best Hokkien mee I’ve ever had, but was well-worth the price and quite yummy. I’d definitely be a regular if I lived close by.
Satays are skewed to perfection, accompanied by aromatic chunky peanut sauce.
Enjoy a traditional Teochew Cuisine Steamboat Fish from a Cloisonne.
The fish head steamboat was light at first but was flavorful gradually as the red snapper fish slices and vegetables were added.
For some time now, when it came to Greek cuisine in Singapore, my go-to has always been Blu Kouzina, which has been operating out of their beautiful space at Dempsey.

There are a few popular Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee in Bukit Batok. Which one will you go to?777 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee offers the dish with Roasted Pork
If you are looking for traditionally fried Hokkien Prawn Mee with Roasted Pork, 777 will be your choice.
While the prawns were fresh, the roasted pork was a little disappointing as the skin wasn’t all that crispy and the meat was a tad dry.
The noodles were springy and crunchy, and drenched in a nice savoury oyster sauce-like sauce with a hint of dang gui flavour and fragrance. The duck was flavourful with some bite, with good fattiness and flavourful skin with a pronounced dang gui flavour. Very nice.
The noodle was well mixed in its sauce and texture was springy.
Overall, I find that the star is still Dang Gui duck and we can skip the rest of the roasted meat if you have limited stomach space to try on.
I had never heard of this little chain of organic markets and cafes. But I randomly walked by one outlet today and the sign for their lei cha fan caught my eye. I'm really glad that I tried it too, given not just the quality of ingredients in there, but also they kept the broth nice and thick; so much that it was almost sauce-like, but also aromatic. I'd be happy to eat that again.
Afterall, I would say that it still serves one of the traditional taste of what I know and expect from a plate of Hokkien Mee and as an overall, its taste fits my liking and they fare above average.
