It’s no secret I miss travelling to Thailand and I believe many people right here in Singapore feel the same way too although the general co...
Overall, very shiok to eat. 😋
The real star is the texture of the trotter itself, though. The meat is barely holding together, so thoroughly braised, while skin and fat alike have an enticing wobble without any of the gumminess that often happens when skin is braised, releasing collagens.
Being the budget diner that I am, Shanghai Renjia truly stole my heart with their affordable house-made food.
Their xiao long bao, springrolls, fried eggs and noodles are also excellent!
Xiaolongbao is by far the most famous of Shanghai’s dumplings, but shengjianbao are just as beautiful.
Go for the Premium Set, that comes with the tau po with fish paste. The tau po was really crispy and the fish paste in it smooth, savoury and tasty. The noodles and the rest of the yong tau foo were really competent too.
Rain or shine, whether you prefer something light or a little heavier for a satisfying meal, the flavours of Hakka Taste SG 客家味 will hit all the right spots.
Overall, the prices here are very affordable and there is ample parking space within the building.
Glad I have found it now, and am keen to head back to try more of their other signature items including their crab and crayfish dishes.
A food blog from a Singapore-based traveler
The broth of the pork ribs prawn noodles was really not bad, full-bodied and rounded, with the flavours of seafood and pork ribs, and tasting really like a thick savoury sweet seafood soup rather than prawn soup.
I would just skip their signature and just go for a bowl of their no frills, regular Prawn Noodles to satisfy my cravings. They are generous with their portions, so come hungry!
Since there is another Blacky Seafood in Cambridge Road, I will very much like to try the dishes there too.
Whoa, this little corner stand was pretty darned good (505 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8 #01-2668). That bánh mì dặc biệt above was filled with a bazillion cuts of meat and then garnished with scallion oil to give it some earthiness and sweetness. Admittedly, I still prefer the spicier lighter bite of my usual Viet9, but I'd be happy to eat here if there is no line.
The vibe here was seriously Vietnamese, complete with the low tables and stools outside. The baguette was crispy outside and soft and airy inside, with a nice layering of flavours from various cold cuts, vegetables, pate, mayo, spreads and sauces. The whole package was tender, fresh and hearty, with savoury umami sweetness. Really nice and comparable with those you could get in Vietnam.
Authentic Vietnamese experience; low table with stools! Apparently, such arrangements are normal in Vietnam and many were on the pavements next to roads where dust and smoke are common companions.
Rahim Muslim Food takes it to a whole other level with its Extra Special Mee Rebus that is packed with indulgent ingredients.
Imagine thick, chunky, peanut sauce cascading over thick, smooth sweet potato gravy, blanketing boiled yellow noodles. These were noodles that took me beyond happy to joy unlimited.
Most customers add extra chicken onto their plate, may be worth a try, but I could barely finish this. The noodles were a tad over cooked as well though.
First Culinary is located at ITE in Ang Mo Kio and it’s not exactly what you expect to find at a educational institution.
if i come again i would take the fishmaw, KL charsiew, chef sauce pork ribs, hesitate about the roast duck, ok with garoupa meesua. maybe try the roast pork and the toman fillet dish.
very good lunch good food S$96nett for 4pax, and a great time with good friends and bros.
Nevertheless, I am happy with the extra ingredients, without the need for starch like rice / noodles / bread. In fact, this was the second time I had ordered the ingredient soup, and would gladly do the same in future visits!
The lor mee meanwhile came with one of my favourite braising sauce or lor, with a savoury soy sauce depth and slightly sweet almost like the prawn broth, leaving a lingering fragrance in your mouth. The noodles were cooked well – soft and slightly bouncy. The accompanying ingredients were just sliced pork, fishcake and braised egg. Similarly, I would go back again for this, just for the braising sauce.
This is a reliable spot you can always count on if you want a delicious bowl of lor mee or hei mee.
This stall in a coffee shop at Ang Mo Kio is opened by the popular roasted duck chain in Malaysia. This is their first outlet in Singapore, ...
The char siew was sweet, sticky and caramelised, although not charred and somewhere between firm and tender in texture.
Ambience at Takagi Ramen is functional casual.
If you haven’t tried Takagi Ramen, make sure you come visit when you’re in Ang Mo Kio next time and those who live in the AMK neighbourhood, you can order the ramen via honestbee food delivery service if you’re too lazy to get out of the house.
Takagi Ramen is quite good, given that they’re a hawker stall and their dishes are priced so affordably. Taste is very personal and subjective so you’ll have to try it and pass your own verdict.
The Fried Garlic Bits & Chilli with Prawn ($18) was yet another moreish dish imbued with tons of flavour. Spoon up the crispy garlic bits and relish them with the large, plump prawns dressed in a sticky, sweet sauce. If you’re a fan of garlic, these two dishes are just what you need for an incredibly satisfying meal!
Everything that we had this morning was a steal.
Kuai San Dian Xin has set themselves as the place to be if you’re a Northie looking for good dim sum at affordable prices.
Kuai San Dian Xin is now my go-to place for cheap dim sum since I stay much nearer to Lakeside than Woodlands.
Saving grace for the unhealthy souls was that the meat was tender! For me, I guess I would still prefer the pork satay from my usual stall at Chong Pang; Xu Zhong Xing. p.s. peanut gravy was pretty spicy!
Their traditional black carrot cake was very good, with just the right amount of wok hei, char, sweet sauce and egg distribution, making for a very evenly tasty, sweet and well-gelled plate. There was a liberal amount of chai poh, providing another layer of sweetness and an additional crunchy texture.
Recommended by Johor Kaki. Such a long queue, although moving fairly fast, with me getting my food after 20 minutes. No wonder this was closed every time I was here at Sun noon. The noodles were springy, bitey and lightly flavoured with a lightly sweet vinegary lardy sauce. The star was the fishballs, soft and seemingly molten inside, and yet still springy, with a light fish flavour. The meatball was similarly soft with a bit more fish flavour. The taupok was soft and juicy. Nice and light.
Even though 724 Ang Mo Kio Central Hawker Centre is the most convenient for me in AMK GRC, I had gotten bored with the food there and decide...
The tau pok with fish paste, fish balls, and meatballs were pretty average though. The chilli was nice and not too spicy, it complemented the kway teow nicely.
My favourite goes to the Cheesy Tater Totes ($5). The mini hash browns are crispy and fluffy inside, layered with melted cheese and mayo which gave an extra boost in flavour without being too cloying.
I thoroughly enjoyed the food by El Carbon Grill House.
This is a cheaper alternative to Collin's by a group of young and energetic chefs. They are in the midst of getting the Halal certification.
