Overall, both the black pepper and the fried chicken were not too bad. A returning trip for other items in the menu can be done too.
Hidden within NEWest is Birdfolks, a new spot that's especially proud of their fried chicken and rice bowls.
Birdfolks serves up delicious American-inspired fried chicken with an Asian twist.
Overall, Joo Chiat Prawn Mee at Ayer Rajah Food Centre is definitely worth a try for the westies, especially if you like your prawn noodles to be sweeter.
This stall is a worthy option for lunch if you happen to be here.
I am sure fans of Joo Chiat Prawn Mee would be overjoyed to know that they are back!
Really nice smoked buttermilk waffles, fluffy inside and crispy outside, and the smokiness infused into the waffles. The sandalwood smoke at serving was not just a show.
After I covered the opening of Taiwanese-style Simple Cafe , offering pastries and bakes in a quiet, minimalist space at West Coast, it appears quite a number of new eateries have come up at that location since.
Relatively quiet and peaceful, the more inaccessible location actually becomes a boon for those of us who fancy our cafes a bit less bustling all the time. The uncluttered walls, simple but sleek furnishing, high ceiling, natural daylight and ample space truly did feel like I had been transported to a nice cafe overseas.
Simple Cafe is home to some good quality pastries.
N.M. Abdul Rahim is located at Ayer Rajah Food Centre along West Coast Drive. My first impression is that this could be spicy from how red this is but I could taste some smokiness, savouriness from the mutton curry, and also the original taste of the noodles.
A passable and serviceable maggi goreng, with not bad wok hei, although the flavours are somewhat one dimensional. 6.5/10.
I had to admit, it is not the best one I have had, but it certainly brought me back to old times when there was an Indian stall under the Whitley Flyover some 30 years ago. Especially with the green peas!
Portion is large with reasonable pricing.
The noodles were nice and bouncy, with flavourful and savoury sauce, and pieces scallop, abalone and tee poh lifting the flavour nicely. This was much better than the Ah Hoe at Tanjong Katong. I still found the soup oddly like vegetable soup, and not really matching the noodles so well though.

NEWest Mall is a clever name for the new mall that opened in the West side of Singapore. It is not so new anymore, having opened in 2017. I believe the previous development that stood here was the Hong Leong Gardens Shopping Centre.
Having Chicken Rice in Air Conditioned Area.
We will return to try their Flourless Chocolate Cake ($6.90) – a fudgy, dense and buttery slice of cake that is baked with coconut sugar and honey.
I am actually surprised that the western designed or looking bistro, actually served some pretty good Asian fares.
i have to say that i was quite disappointed with the food, especially given the prices they were charging. doubt i'll be back in a hurry.

Not a bad laksa, lemak, with dried shrimp fragrance, and slightly savoury and spicy. The ingredients were a bit meagre though, with one prawn, half a hard boiled egg, two cockles, and just a few pieces of fishcake and tau pok.
The stall sells 4 kinds of Noodles Beef Brisket Noodle, Prawn Noodle, Chicken Wanton Noodle in which Laksa is their Signature. They have items at on and if you like to have Prawn Salad, you can buy a bowl too.
The smoothness of taste with tender chicken paired with the bowl of herbal soup and Hor Fun was my satisfying meal. Its definite that I will be returning for more.

Ayer Rajah Food Centre is one of those hawker centres frequented so often; I would likely go back to my usual few stalls like the Fried Cock...
The fried rice was honestly not bad, fluffy and moist, with a good eggy flavour. The pork chop was well marinated with five spice powder and tender, as well as crispy at the edges. Unexpected find.
