a meal at Uncle Ho Tuck Shop just might make us think again. Cheekily named after Vietnamese revolutionary Ho Chi Minh, this casual self-service eatery was recommended by my Makan Kaki
Honestly, this bun cha didn’t sweep me off my feet.
I thus wished that their kitchen had handled things a bit differently. But I was still happy to have come here, and suspect that I will be coming back here again, especially since I didn't get a chance to try their phở this time.
Authentic Taiwanese Food that worth the calories.
I will be back again to try their Sautéed Beef Cube with garlic and others.
Nevertheless, it looks so good so I’ll be popping by again on a treat-myself day!
Fatty Ipoh Noodles Spawned just last May within Pasir Panjang Food Centre, rather new kid on the block Fatty Ipoh Noodles (a poky ...
This hor fun presented an interesting contrast in textures not seen elsewhere with the crispy hor fun on top. The generous pork lard was very crispy and fragrant, and the sauce was really smooth and eggy. The accompanying ingredients – fishcake, sliced pork, sliced fish and chicken prawns – were ok and quite competent. Overall quite nice – comfort food I will go back for.
Fatty Ipoh Fried Noodles is a definite hidden gem in Pasir Panjang. Most of their dishes are priced at $5, making it an absolute steal! Read more.
A good mix of food items that go well with steamed rice. The medium was adequate for two persons. We think it is a nice dish to try once in a while and is a good break from the usual hawker food dishes.
The dish is indeed unique on its own and maybe pricy as it seems but the taste and quality of standards say it all. There will be a second visit from me definitely.
Exclusively available online, they deliver island-wide to your doorstep. You can store them frozen for 3-6 months!
Overall, most of the dishes were pretty authentic in taste although some dishes missed a few notes to be perfect. Some dishes however are priced quite high for the serving size
This is really a 巷子里的美食. The broth was greasy in a nice way, fragrant and slightly savoury sweet. The bowl came with tender, fresh and tasty pork ribs, and bouncy and sweet prawns. The noodles were quite alkaline though, but the soup was really good – I polished it all up.
If you are in the vicinity, this is definitely a bowl of prawn noodle that is worth the queue.
If you love shabu shabu, this is another restaurant that you can add to your list.
Though Yuzutei offers a small and limited menu, all items were well-executed. Quality broth and ingredients were used in both their signature items, the Yuzu Shabu and Hot Stone Grill. Certainly value-for-money.
The beef brisket was probably the weakest dish that day. The beef was tough and the gravy was not very rich. Much better was the fried rice – very well fried with the rice very dry yet still fluffy.
The bun cha gio with grilled chicken came with a nice crunchy and crispy fried spring roll wrapped with fried vermicelli, enveloping soft and seasoned minced chicken, blended prawns, and diced vegetables.
On my plate of white rice sprinkled with black sesame seeds were a generous serving of lu rou, braised peanuts, two halves of a hard-boiled egg and a bed of lettuce. It came with a free bowl of vegetable soup.
Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice in Hawker
The curry was of the sweeter variety, but was a bit more one dimensional. The pork chop was fairly crispy and quite flavourful and thick, the cabbage sweet and soft, but the sambal squid had a bit of an unpleasant “fishy” taste, which the sparse sambal didn’t mask.
All in all, the texture of the rice was too soggy for me and the taste of curry and the signature items were just too average.
The environment is relaxing and the service was not bad. Though there is not much variety in the merchandise, the food quality and standard are worth the trip back to Blue Balls Bike Cafe.
Did we order the wrong thing? I guess it will be our first and the last time buying from this stall. If not we have to be very selective about what dishes we pick in the next round.
Al Ehsan Nasi Padang Nasi Lemak Lotong at Pasir Panjang
This is probably the cheapest nasi padang that I’ve come across thus far! I will definitely be back for its huge fried chicken thigh!!
Overall dining experience was fun, but felt food could be better.
The Salted Caramel Popcorn Cake (SGD $7) has a super soft, moist butter sponge cake layered with butter cream, coated with a sticky sweet salty glaze of salted caramel sauce.
Vegetables were nicely salted and not fibrous.
Among the 3 Paik’s Coffee Korean Smoothies, the ranking from least to most favourite is Sweet Potato Smoothie, Misutgaru Smoothie and Coconut Coffee Smoothie.
The you char kway and tau pok were nicely crispy and smoky, and the plate tasted refreshing with all the fruits – red apple, green apple, pineapple and guava. This was overall like Penang rojak, fresh, pungent and a bit sour with the shrimp paste.
But if you happen to be there and wish for some healthy food fix, this is a good option.
