Overall, the salad and soup are really nice, only let down is the unexpected taste of scallop.
Portofino was the first neighborhood Italian restaurant we fell in love with in Bangsar. Serving authentic Italian food at an affordable price.
Portofino is one of a hidden gem in Lucky Garden, Bangsar. Although they sits right at the corner with very big prominent signage, this restaurant actually serve authentic Italian food.
Well, fret not, this popular fish head curry stall is still around and operating from a food truck located at No. 2, Lorong Ara Kiri 3, 59100 Kuala Lumpur. Oh yes, you can never miss the Anuar’s Fish Head Curry new food truck as it's parked right in front of where their corner stall used to be in Lucky Garden. No more dine-in but you can tapau or takeaways for some good cheap eats from this hidden gem of yours.
Verdict All in all dining at Anuar’s Fish Head Curry was an incredibly satisfying experience. Sure, the curry could be better but considering the price we paid it certainly doesn’t get any better than this. Considering the price, taste and portion size, we will definitely be coming back for the fried fish and fried squid.
As you can tell from the picture, the size of the Sotong Goreng is pretty big and satisfying especially for the price of RM7. On top of that, as the restaurant’s name suggest, Anuar Kari Kepala Ikan is renowned for their fish curry which comes with spicy gravy and fresh fish. The Fish Head Curry here is a MUST TRY!
We placed our order for Banana Leaf Rice (RM8) which came with a choice of either chicken, fish or mutton curry or dhal. The curries were thick and well-spiced. It came with four types of vegetables, most of them were potato-based and I was happy to see my favorite stir fried cabbage. :) Pappadums were nice and crispy, and rasam is also served with your meal
The selection of vegetables were good and they were prepared reasonably well. They had in fact wanted to serve me a larger portion of vegetables and it was I that had stopped them as I did not want to waste. That itself shows that the management does not restrict the waiters from serving larger portions. This is the total opposite of some very famous Banana Leaf Rice restaurants that serve limited portions and charge you for refills. I loved the way the veggies were prepared and my rating for these shall be 8/10. Their Rasam was good as well. Generous with the spices and it did taste good. This too shall get a 8/10 from me.
Overall, it was a super duper yummy late lunch. The food are delicious, good service and reasonably priced. The total bill is RM 24 for foods and drinks. I was shocked when I saw my sister polish off everything in the plate. She is a little eater and that's too much for her but she commented that the food is too good that she never realize she is finishing it up. Hahahaha!!
Actually it’s quite hard to go wrong any of the stalls here. Some people like the Sam Kan Cheong pork noodle while my wife always orders the Ipoh style dry curry mee. As for me, I prefer the wantan mee.
Sun Huat Kee Coffee Shop at Bangsar
This pork ball noodles come in soup and dry dark sauce. The place is packed with customers waiting in line for their Pork Ball Noodles. And thumbs up for the dish. Taste Rating: 9.5/10 Ambiance Rating: 6/10 Service Rating: Nil Value Rating: 10/10
There’s a bowl of noodles with a special place in my heart that has been a constant for more than two decades of my life. Here’s to that.
Anyone who lives in Bangsar would know about this excellent Pan Mee in Chun Heong coffee shop. It’s one of the best things you can still enjoy at a cheap price in this posh neighborhood.
Overall, it was an okay lunch for me. Good Service and their Briyani and Acar was good while their Ayam Madu is just so-so for me. I read "OH HA" about their Ayam Madu before drop by but it does not live up to its fame.
We wanted to take away and they had skilfully packed them with layers of plastic between the Appam's so that they do not stick on to one another. I have not seen this Sri Lankan variety of Appam made elsewhere except in Ceylonese homes and functions. Except that of late, we do have some Sri Lankan restaurants that do have these but they are sold at premium prices. I believe that this is the only place where you could get them in a stall like concept. The Appam's were perfect. The plain Appam's were priced at RM 1.50 each and the ones with Brown Sugar are priced at RM 1.70 each. I would rate these Appam's at 9/10 . Definitely some good stuff !
Until early of December 2017, we began seeing pictures of a photography-worthy cafe named Podgy Kurau, on Instagram. Podgy team is finally back in town! They are bringing the aroma of coffee into the neighbourhood in Lorong Kurau, Bangsar Kuala Lumpur!
For Teppanyaki, we were served the Seafood Teppanyaki. It comes with a combination of white squid, prawns, scallop, a piece of Salmon and oyster which is wrapped in a mini omelette. Teppan-grilled to the right balance, it retains the succulency and bouncy texture of the seafood. Served with a side of grilled garlic which is a nice add-on for those that loves their garlic.
Love their Yosenabe Gozen as it is served with a large piece of scallop, oyster, prawn, chicken, clams and veggies. Soup is clear and aromatic.
Our next dish was the Shake Sashimi or Salmon Sashimi. If you love sashimi, order this Shake Sashimi and you will be delighted or rather impressed with the thick cut fresh and succulent salmon. The chefs at Hana Tei makes sure each slice of sashimi dished out are at 30 grams per piece.
The fries is huge in portion, though oily, it is really satisfying and it is piping hot, with creamy center Pizza is very cheesy, can try
Ayam Kampung Soup @ RM 10.00 The portion was huge and pricey too. The soup itself was something very unique, rich in spices and not the usual kind of soup that is mostly found in Indian Muslim restaurants. My rating for this preparation shall be 8/10.
My personal favourite was the Tuaran Grilled Calamari (RM35.80), super flavorful stir fried Tuaran noodles topped with freshly grilled Sabah squid. Hearty, wholesome goodness!
Reasons to visit The Blockbunsters: A slightly quirky vibe with a good gin list at a reasonable price. Burgers of different shapes, sizes and flavours. Remember, being Knowhere is somewhere.
My favourite was the Priyanka Claw-pra, with delicious varuval crab patty on a bed of arugula and curry aioli.
The Legend @ RM 28 The Legend tasted okay. For us, it tastes a bit bland that we have to add our own seasonings in it.
The packaging of the place is nice and pleasing to the eyes. But when one goes deep into the core, there is nothing much to shout about.
Good place for breakfast again!
The Bouillabaisse, the iconic Marseilles seafood soup, is chockful of goodies, tiger prawns, mullet, and the soup, which is more bisque like than clear (unlike the usual Marseilles ones), is so good that left all of us wanting more. Now, the main surprise was the breads, because well, it's bread, and at this stage of the meal, no one wants more bread, BUT one per chance bite into that crusty piece of goodness, it didn't take long before all of it was gone.
Reasons to visit Chez Gaston, French Bistro Bangsar: Charcuterie goodies to share with friends, a beautiful twist on the Salad Nicoise, and meaty mains that come with sauces prepared by the hands of an expert. Of course, same room for dessert.
One of our most favorite salad with goat cheese. Tossed salad with vinaigrette and pork bacon bits. Served along with baked matured goat cheese on baguette stick topped with honey and black pepper.
The consistency of food as well as great service and good coffee is the reason why people keep coming back for more
Reasons to visit VCR Bangsar: great coffee; modern café menu; don’t miss the French Toast (love, love, love it!); we’re big fans of Pennsylvania’s Soul and the Superbowl too.
Fried Chicken Skin with a modern twist. Something new I tried in VCR that never fails to impress me.
Overall, the pizza are tasty, although the best pizza i had was in a hotel in chennai 🙂
Black Truffle Pizza was superb. Perfect crust pizza with warm, gooey goodness of melted cheese, mixed mushroom and black truffle paste. Yum!! Must try in Proof Pizza + Wine. Black Truffle Pizza (8 inch) @ RM 36.79
Verdict : Amazing pizza that just makes you fall in love more with their pizza marries well with amazing ambience and wines! Advisable to make reservations in advance
Head down to Table9 cafe with friends and family to experience this mouth-watering Korean-Italian cuisine.
Salted Caramel Cake was yum. Sweet from the chocolate and the salty taste from the salted caramel give it a perfect kick. Salted Caramel Cake @ RM 12.90
The absolutely scrumptious seafood spaghetti is enticing enough to make me come back just for it (in fact, my friend returned just for that). Of course, there are lots more to try and I hear the risottos and pizzas are good too. Charming cafe, unique dishes, reasonable prices, warm service...are some of the other reasons you may want to make a trip here. So, grab a table at Table 9 and feel right at home with some comfort food that's always fresh, always appetising! ^_~
Verdict: Satisfying flavours and portion, we enjoyed immensely the food we had and would highly recommend this place if you’re at this area.
Food was good and acceptable. I will likely return to try other brunch and dessert options, especially the ice cream!
Verdict: The server there is really accommodating to our request and speedy service .. It's better to make a reservation if you want to be in a big group as the space of this eatery is not that large and it fills up rather quickly .. They have recently updated their menu with the inclusion of the dessert menu!
