Reasons to embark on the Caribbean Food Cruise at Joloko: a chance to “travel” at least by setting sail on your tastebuds; fun, fun, fun team and setting; a culinary adventure; excellent cocktails and wine list.
I hadn’t been to a Caribbean restaurant for more than two years, and we definitely want to come back here. It is expensive, but the atmosphere and the food were really worth it. Highly recommended.
The sandwiches were delicious. You can choose your spice level – mild, normal or spicy. I opted for spicy. Part of it was the heat and the other part was pure spices, a burst of flavors. The sandwich filling was generous. The grilled pork was tender and juicy. Biting into it was divine. There was spinach, purple cabbage, purple radish, onions …. it was yummy!
Reasons to visit: over 50 craft beers; charming setting; Sunday roast; excellent meals with a home-cooked feel.
The Sunday roast at Gavel is RM60 per head and the meat alternates between roast beef and a roast lamb leg. It was the roast lamb leg when we visited and I dare say it's the best roast lamb I've ever had. The meat was tender, flavorful (very herby and garlicky but that's fine), moist and very well done.
Banana Pancakes mixed Berries, 16 ringgit. Looks fancy, ey? This has to be a first for me, being served pancakes on a solid wooden platter. I like it 🙂 So, the dish comes with a mini bowl with mixed berries + 2 fluffy pancakes filled with bananas + a real generous portion of good honey. In most cases, I usual have to request for a refill of honey , especially when they use a good one. Considering the price, I understand why they stinge on it but still, as a customer, you need to demand your share, especially when it comes to pancakes. Here though, they literally present you with a lot of honey, so much more than usual that it is highly likely you would request for more. I was literally jumping with glee. The pancakes as a whole was delicious. The pancakes although is thicker than the usual ones – it is not less fluffy , with a sense of lightness to it. Having it on its own with the banana was good enough. Add it good honey and the sourness from the berries – one yummy pancake. Loved it.
Sizzling Sundays BBQ at Stripes Price: RM100 (One-for-One) Time: 12PM-3PM, every Sunday Highlights : Grilled meat & ribs, specially crafted Sangria (*add RM25/bottle)
This is the place my friends; the place to chill with your buddies, to chat, to sip on excellent whisky sours (look for bartender Henly), to try intriguing cocktails and to chow down on unique “bar snacks” in the form of savoury mantaos in a bar.
Reasons to visit: chilled rooftop bar; great event space.
Our favorite among other dishes we sampled that evening. Braised yellow noodles immersed in thick, flavourful broth, topped with prawn, squid, fish cake, poached egg, fried bean curd, green vegetables.
From traditional Malaysian favourites to exciting fusion dishes, there is something to suit every diner’s palate. The menu takes on a mix of western and local flavours and is designed to pair well with Rooftop 25 Bar and Lounge’s beverage list.
Private dining for up to 20 people can also be arranged. For standing cocktail-style receptions, the rooftop bar and lounge can accommodate up to 150 people. It also has retractable roofing in the event of light rain showers. With its open-deck concept flanked by the hotel’s swimming pool, the airy space will showcase Kuala Lumpur as a tale of two cities – the radiant, bustling capital by day followed by the starry city of ambient lights by night.
Finally get to try out this legendary Fish & Chips, after seeing it for countless time on social media. in The Chow Kit Kitchen & Bar’s very own version of East meets West fish & chips, putting together signature tandoori marinated fish, crispy kale, hand-cut chips and tartar sauce. Still crispy at the outside, moist within though we took quite a while to figure out the best angle to take a picture for this “fish”.
Reasons to try the Chef’s Specials at The Chow Kit Kitchen & Bar: Traditional Malay fair; their special hous-made sauces; nice cocktail list; awesome sharing platters; lovely ambience.
Reasons to visit The Chow Kit Kitchen & Bar: great bar that supports the restaurant; excellent mix of local and international flavours founded on substance and fashioned on contemporary flair. Must try The Chow Kit cocktail, The Chow Kit Nachos, Grilled Chicken Breast and the Crème Caramel.
Reasons to visit 7Tnine Kitchen & Bar: a casual, friendly setting; a team that doesn’t take itself too seriously, instead insisting on a fun, happy vibe with food designed to fill the tummy and capture a few Insta shots too; the longest happy hours we’ve come across in the city for beer.
7TNINE Special Rack of Lamb (RM55.79) , chef recommendation. Again, hearty serving that can feed two. Three giant pieces of lamb rack, flavoured up with herbs marination. Comes with black pepper sauce, mashed potatoes and daily vegetables.
Reasons to visit: Great ambiance and they have combination of both world which is the Indian and Western delights.
Overall, Terrazza KL is a decent spot for drinks before and after meals.
Reasons to visit the Mizukami Collective at The Chow Kit: stylish setting with character; great bartenders; local flavours integrated into classic cocktails; plenty of zero-proof and low ABV choices; must try the Kopi-O, Jungle Bird and Lime Leaf Lady.
What would I tell you that I found the cheapest hotel buffet lunch in KL at only RM25+ per person? Yup, you heard me right. The Rouge, the rooftop bar at 25th floor of Red By Sirocco Hotel has launched their lunch buffet promotion recently.
Lamb Chop at MYR 28 nett. These lamb chops are not as thick as some that I have eaten and they are grilled until tastily charred. The mint sauce is refreshing but the cauliflower and carrot is on the oily side. The mashed potatoes are creamy and there is a hint of coconut taste. I kept a piece of the lamb for the next day and finished the rest of the food.
Cold beer and Lok-lok Hotpot may sound like a peculiar combination, but strangely, it works. From 6pm onwards, after the sun has set, the nostalgic ambience in 45 Speak Vezy Bar goes up several notches. With soft warm lighting casting romantic shadows everywhere, it’s time to sit back and sip some cocktails, beer or wine or some home-boiled barley!
