A lot of people talk about The Laughing Fish by Harry Ramsden and in particular the Fish and Chips. So we had to try it of course. We chose the Cod for the fish and it was fresh and crisp.
Avocado Toastie for me - grilled sourdough with smashed avocado, tomato and feta crumbs. I've tried avocado toast in many cafes due to my diet and I think the price is somewhat reasonable (it's Genting after all).
My personal favourite catch there is the light and flaky Cod (regular RM40, large RM48 & legendary RM58). Served piping hot, the slab of imported Atlantic cod comes coated in airy-light, crisp batter with a pile of thick-cut, double-cooked chips.
[Muslim-friendly] Hey, it’s British fish and chips! We returned to Cor Blimey! for some authentic British fish and chips. Founded by Hampshire-bred Adam, Cor Blimey! uses only Halal ingredients and serves no alcohol or pork. Max opted for the Alaskan Pollock (RM32.90) – which comprises two huge chu…
All in all, the numerous visits to Cor Blimey have been a wonderful one so far. Glad to learn that authentic British style Fish & Chips is much more accessible now instead of having to travel oversea to fix the craving. Thence, I look forward to many returns again to this quaint shop that no doubt captures each diner’s heart with its quality sumptuous feast.
Ultimate Sides Platter (MYR 29.90) The perfect combo for all the sides variety consisting of onion rings, mushrooms, broccoli cheese croquettes, cheddar cheese melts and crispy zucchini fries served with homemade sauces.
Steak Diane Fill up your tummy with the Steak Diane. The delicious and tender juicy grain-fed chilled sirloin ( 200g) is perfectly made and served together with the roasted potatoes and the creamy honey mustard sauce. It’s meat is perfect to my tastebuds and every mouthful simply divine.
Our favorite was the Twice baked cheese souffle (RM24) with creamy mushroom sauce and chunky toast. Rich and velvety with great flavours, this was so moreish, I wanted more.
Reasons to try out the new summer additions on the W1 Bangsar menu: Consistently good food; a lovely summery twist on cocktails; super ambience; attentive service
Aglio Olio (RM 19.80). Their Aglio Olio is also nicely done with al-dente spaghetti noodles, topped with mushrooms, tomatoes, and sprinkles of cheese. The flavour comes well from the olive oil and pepper, albeit oil was slightly excessive which might be neglectable by some.
Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling (Pitt Street) in Penang is one of the most celebrated cultural districts of Penang. It is also here in the heart of George Town where one would find the mushrooming trend of cafes. For one – the Bean Sprout Cafe located in a two-storey heritage building opposite the Kuan Yin Temple has grown into a popular place. The cafe catches the eye from the street with its black colored blinds with big white wordings.
Specializing in the classic brunch items- Big Breakfast, Toasts and Pancakes; The Bean Sprout Cafe is one of the latest members to join the clamoring cafe scene in Penang. It occupies one of the lots right opposite to the few century old Kuan Yin Temple along Masjid Kapitan Keling. Both exterior and interior are rustic, it certainly matches the heritage theme well. The contrast is obvious here- young and passionate in an old-fashioned space; east (building) meets west (food); the cafe operators seem to pay great attention to details here. The heat-intolerant might be glad to know that there's a huge blower erected (though not air-conditioned), the cafe is not stuffed and the ventilation works fine. We did not feel stuffy at all, on a sultry hot afternoon. Albeit the cafe has a small menu but sipping a cup of Joe and enjoying the Toast while looking at the bustling temple-praying scene can be one of the great ways to enjoy your off day.
This is my favourite place for fish and chips as it’s the closest taste-wise to the ones in the UK. Since the Hubs is now here in Malaysia (and a trip to the UK is impossible atm), I brought him along so he could have a taste.
My order of dory fish in onion garlic batter, served with a side of baked beans. Fish was fried to crispy perfection and did not feel greasy at all; was moist and juicy on the inside. Same went for the thick cut chips. Beans were good, curry sauce was on point. Only thing that could do with improvement was the onion gravy, which was a tad too sweet for me, but all in all, still decent.
I have been searching for authentic British fish and chips in KL since forever so when Cor Blimey opened in Jan 2016 and billed itself as "giving locals a taste of authentic British food...", I plan to eat there but it took more than a year for my plan to become reality because I seldom venture into that area.
So, if you are here, one of the must try is their “Fish & Chips” Family Feast! One can enjoy 4 types of fish in one huge platter which includes the Atlantic Cod, Pacific Halibut, Ocean Perch and Dory. They are beautifully deep fried in different homemade batter flavours and sides with the chunky chips, creamy mash, garlic butter rice, mushy peas, garden peas, coleslaw, baked beans, pickled egg, gherkin, tartar sauce and the vinegar. Their chunky chips are so good to snack on unlike other frozen chips from other places. They are homemade, hand peeled and triple-cooked to golden crisp, with soft and fluffy on the inside.
My only negative is that meal here can easily get quite expensive, with us paying almost RM85 for what is pub food in the West. Though it’s missing some of the quintessential fish and chip touches like being served on chip shop paper and accompanied by a tantalizingly cold lager, Cor Blimey British Fish & Chips is a delicious and reasonably authentic facsimile of the classic British dish. It’s a good shout for anyone who either wants to try proper fish and chips for the first time, or those wanting to revisit their time in England. Just grab a chap, leg it to this place that’s the bee’s knees, and Bob’s your uncle!
The burnt cheesecake here was more like a New York baked cheesecake (more dense), nevertheless it was still yummy. We got the set which comes with coffee (cake and coffee for RM15.90). A nice place to chill with a cuppa.
Surprise, surprise .. Gala House used to be a one-shop-lot size Cafe but now expended their business into two-shop-lot, where one is for you to enjoy your meal in a more family like setting while the other is a modern bar for you to enjoy your drinks, i find this combination kinda awesome
The chef shared with us that another popular main is creamy chicken since Gala House inception. It gives a rich filling when coupling the fried chicken cutlet with the cream.
Overall the food at Wings N Boar Restaurant & Cafe are pretty good and tasty. The only thing is their prices are a bit high for Cheras area and hence it is probably the reason why we didn’t revisit the restaurant. Please don’t it wrong, they gave us a very good impression and we do recommend this restaurant for their pork dishes.
Big Boy Chicken Burger, 26 ringgit. My first thought was “Woaaaaa, look at the size of that chicken.” It certainly was the star of this dish. The Big Boy Chicken Burger comes with a whole chicken leg (boneless) + Brioche burger buns + Coleslaw + Lettuce + Mayo, with Sweet Potato fries on the side. The coleslaw in the burger was something new to me. I’ve had greens, caramelized onions, cheese, egg and other usual fillings but coleslaw – never. It tasted delicious. The coleslaw provided the burger a gravy/sauce effect, which only made the dish better. The fried chicken leg was thick, tender, meaty and crunchy. The sweet potato fries was tasty, I just wish they could tone down the salt? cause rather than allowing the sweetness to shine, the salt kind of muted it, which made it taste like the usual fries. Other than that – I enjoyed this dish very much.
My Personal Opinion As they choose not to season or lightly season their meat, it didn't appeal as much to my spouse (as it did me) since he's someone who likes the robust flavour of a well-seasoned steak (he gave the salt grinder a good workout). Luckily, they had good sauces to make you not notice (as much) the under-seasoned meat. I think you can only get away with not seasoning your meat if it's of exceptional quality (like wagyu) where you can really taste the flavour in the meat itself. But then a good seasoning on a steak do tend to give it that crusty, savoury layer on the outside of the meat that I truly adore.
Here's the location.
Overall, not too bad if I’m not too picky on the fries. Indeed a fuss-free pitstop to grab and go when hunger suddenly strikes
First among the mains that we sampled was the dish of Mussels with Ravioli. Prepared in a bright homemade tomato sauce with hint of white wine and seafood flavor, the dish which isn’t on the menu was simple but delicious.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and our time at EL&N and there are enough things on the menu that we could go back a few times. So we will!
For meat lovers, there is smoked duck stew and the lamb shoulder korma. These two dishes stewed with plenty of spices are served with cucumber raita, a cooling accompaniment prepared with charred Japanese cucumber, mint, and yogurt.
Reasons to visit: a convenient home-cooked pie – Mon’s fave the Cottage Pie and mine the Chicken Leek; healthy fruit smoothies and decadent milkshakes – the two standouts being the Mint Choc Brownie and the Banutty.
