Whenever I am in Kuala Lumpur, I travel down to Chinatown ( Petaling Street) to get a dose of the delicious soybean milk and traditional Chinese biscuits from Fung Wong. This is actually the first time I had time to walk beyond the covered walkway to explore the entire area which is actually full of small interesting cafes
If you like salted Egg, then this dish is for you. Every mouth you take, you will be to taste it. The pasta was served with 5 or 6 pieces of boneless chicken. Food was tasty and from the looks of it, it’s can instagramble restaurant.
We really liked Malaya Garden, as the staff were professional, attentive (they noted the little one would find the macaroni cheese too spicy – maybe not, but we didn’t risk it), and friendly, the food was of a high standard, the decor is fun – oh, and I almost forgot that the coffee is delicious, if perhaps a little environmentally unfriendly.
We relished into these decadent desserts which were delightful. The cakes and coffees though were made match in heaven.
We had only coffee that day as we have other errands that day, and left by 11am. It is a really, really pretty cafe if you asked us
[Pork-free] What is old is new. Light Capture Café transforms an old building into a NY-style loft space with fire-licked walls and beams frozen in time.
While touring my Indonesian friend for jalan jalan cari makan at Petaling Street, then suddenly stumble upon this cafe that do rings a bell to me. Jao Tim is one of the latest cafe that a few of my friend had visited that gave good comments in their social media. Jao Tim in Cantonese means hotel.
The grilled cheese sandwich was awesome. I loved it. Every bite you take had cheese oozing out of it. Would I order it again? Most definitely.
Overall, we love this place. Friendly service, cozy ambience, jazz music, and not so crowded yet, at least for now. However we guess it will get crowded very soon, ‘coz it is such a pretty cafe to hang out. LOL. Will be back again and hope to see more hot food from their menu.
Food was good and acceptable. I will likely return to try other brunch options and especially dessert which I did not have the opportunity to try since I was too full.
Oatmeal Waffles with Bananas, honey pecans, gula Melaka syrup RM17– another East meets West dish, on the sweet sides. We hardly eat walnuts but this toasted version goes really well with banana and the syrup!
Come to Lim Kee Cafe in Chinatown for espresso-based coffee in a modernised kopitiam setting.
The cakes here are home made. They have a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic cakes, depends of what you fancy. I decided on the Tiramisu. Since it is from their ‘alcoholic’ variety, the taste of rum is guaranteed. It was the first and last thing I taste with every bite I took. It was not in an overwhelming way though, more like pleasant. As a whole, the cake itself was light and fluffy, not the kind that would lave you stuffed by the time you reach the end.
Instead of going for a dazzling menu that gives people a feast for the eyes, Lim Kee Cafe chose to keep the selection of the menu simple; basically just coffee, cakes, ice-creams and other choices like tea and bottled juice. **Hot food will be offered much later.
For just RM10, you get to try out their 62 °C Hainan Breakfast. It is like the telur goyang we always have in kopitiam or mamak stall, but Cafe 55 presents it with modern twist. Double poached egg, placed on top of toasted bread sandwiched with homemade kaya and butter. Finished with shoyu dressing and scallion.
Croque Monsieur, 20 ringgit. The Croque Monsieur is their popular dish and came recommended. It consisted of bread, turkey ham, cheddar cheese, mornay (cheese sauce?). This was delicious. Do make sure you have an empty stomach though because this sure is filling. I was halfway through and already felt stuffed. So, be warned. The melted cheese on the top – I am soooo a fan. Just biting into that layer of cheese + bread + turkey ham … yummmm!
For beverage menu, other than usual espresso based coffee in black and white, their hot chocolate is a must try. Soothing and comforting at every sip, best on a cold, rainy weather.
Fried Rice, 7 ringgit The fried rice was simple but yummy. You wouldn’t see it filled with numerous items, no but it sure did taste good, homemade. Would I rate it the best fried rice out there
Reasons to visit: pretty location, nicely flushed with natural light perfect for a cheery Sunday brunch; reasonably priced.

This chocolate cake was dense, moist and compact. It certainly was not light and fluffy. When it broke apart, it was not crumbly. It stuck together and broke in chunks. Me likey 🙂 To me, it was somewhere between a cake and a fudge, the density was appealing. It wasn’t too sweet and had a lingering slightly bitter-ish taste.

Their Nasi Lemak set came with some fragrant coconut milk rice, some Sambal, Fried Anchovies and Peanuts, half a Hard Boiled Egg, some Prawn Sambal and a small piece of Chicken Rendang. Their Coconut Milk Rice was above average. Being a restaurant of class, I definitely expected better quality. Nevertheless, it was still acceptable levels and my rating for this shall be 6/10.
Burnt Cheesecake with Sorbet is an innovative culinary take on the popular classic dessert. The cake contains hypnotizing and rich cheese flavour with perfectly caramelized edges, served with a scoop of whipped feijoa and pear sorbet.

Sabah Soft Shell Crab Fried Rice, 28 ringgit. Ooooo man, do not get me started on this dish. The fried soft shell crab was da bomb! The crab here was pretty huge, I kindda thought half of it was made up of flour but nope, the flour was just a thin layer on the outside, the inside – was all crab, from one end to the other. No joke. They added some spices and that gave it some sort of spicy, herb-y flavor? It gives it a different taste entirely from the ones you’d usually get elsewhere. The flavors from the crab totally compliments the salted egg fried rice, which on its own was utterly delicious. The whole dish was delicious. Certainly a dish I will reorder again and again.
Set Lunch of the day : Jonker Street Fried Rice + Long Black, 28 ringgit. Ooooo man, I literally started salivating as soon as I got the first visual to this dish. I dove in soon after and guess where I headed first? The chicken satay, yawww !! Meaty , juicy, succulent chicken meat on skewers, 3 pieces on each + the yummy peanut gravy/sauce? da bomb! Soooo delicious. The fried rice was equally as delicious and so was the onion fritters, crispy and crunchy. Okay, every bit of ingredient on the plate was delicious. That is all I’ve got to say, lol. Give it a try and I am sure you’ll agree with me.
Among the few dishes we tried, the Roasted Lamb Rack @ RM55.90 was our favorite. It features three pieces of extra large lamb cutlets that were expertly cooked, the meat is so tender!
