Penang Char Kuey Teow, 12.90 ringgit I was surprised truly, I did not expect it to taste as real as it would be. You’d be able to tell the difference between a dish from a hawker stall and a proper, more established eatery, right? There is simply that extra ‘kick’ that comes in one and absent in the other. The dish here tasted like it came out of a hawker stall, the authenticity is maintained – tastewise. It was yummy! There were the tasty noodles with 3 medium sized prawns + sprouts + ‘kerang’ and egg. I’d order it again.
Stir Fried Basil leaves with Minced Chicken on Rice (RM10.90) We also have the Thai- Licious delights which is the stir fried basil leaves with the minced chicken. Served with a warm bowl of rice.
Penang Mee Mamak @ RM 10.90 – this is not too bad.
Overall, the lively, cheerful dining scene in Rubberduck is probably their noteworthy point, apart from dessert. Haha. The ambience certainly makes our brunch moments here more enjoyable. But we’ll stick to just dessert in future visit.
Rubberduck is a vibrant alfresco patisserie cafe located in the heart of Sri Hartamas. Upon stepping in, you'll be greeted by the smell of freshly baked cakes and pastries.
At Super Saigon, makes your Vietnamese food indulgence more interesting with Melbourne-style pho, and a long list of delicacies that stay close to their authenticity – bun cha, spring rolls, banh mi, Vietnamese coffee, etc..
Crunchy & crispy fried shrimps with the spicy dip sauce. What could be nicer than starting the meal with crunchy & crispy fried shrimps right? Crunchy Shrimp @ RM 15
Reasons to visit: Hot chocolate that begins with a hunk of 75% dark chocolate melting in hot milk and the peanut butter heaven found in Nut-coholic.
Why the Prep Room? ‘Cos it’s all about preparation work! When one learn about their dishes and how they are made, you will understand. Almost every elements are made from scratch! And I was really impressed with their efforts – Kuan Ling who creatively married local ingredients with Thai spices and churn out a storm of special dishes with Western touches too. While Zaki, who aced in his barista counter and all the masterpieces in his restaurant.
We love the ambience of Orito, so as their friendly service. Hopefully in near future, they would be able to serve the choux earlier, so that they don’t disappoint the trip of some customers who took effort to come early, yet have to leave with only doughnuts – at least, this is what we seen throughout our coffee session there. Maybe the cafe is still new in operation, probably they will get better soon.
Their menu with European, Pan-Asian and Middle Eastern infusions stands out from the tired scrambled egg wraps and “big American breakfasts” of the other nearby eateries. Mark already wants to come back here based on the strength of the rib eye sandwich alone, but the appetizing looking pastries at Tray open up the possibility of having an afternoon snack here
The reason why we (okay, I) spent twenty minutes deciding where to eat at Plaza Damas before settling on Tray is that it has the most interesting looking food without being ridiculously overpriced. Mark already wants to come back here based on the strength of the rib eye sandwich alone, but the appetizing looking pastries at Tray open up the possibility of having an afternoon snack here. Plaza Damas isn’t our favourite place to eat, but I think we’ve found our default restaurant in the area.
Belgian Chocolate Truffle Torte (RM15). After much documentation of this amazing dessert, we then dive in with our forks.. And the verdict is that it is a must have and try dessert in our books! As the chocolate truffle torte was an elegant torte without being overly rich on the palate and it has a creamy and velvety texture! It somehow managed to create the fine balance between sweet and bitter alongside the slight salt you can get from it.. It was truly a delight to be enjoy with a cup of warm tea!
This is a real hidden gem in Plaza Damas – they recently moved here from Plaza Damansara. We spotted some Persian/Mediterranean items on the menu.
The Chicken Mandi is basically a traditional Yemeni dish. This dish, I enjoyed because it was rather similar to the local indian briyani I indulge in from time to time. A lil dryer perhaps but similar in terms of the spices used and its taste. The long grain rice was flavorful and the big piece of juicy chicken thigh was awesome. Tender and moist it was, the meat literally falls off with ease as you cut into it. The dish comes with a side of vegetable soup and tomato gravy. A yummy dish overall.
Hachi Bakery Cafe Plaza Damas (*linked with Hartamas Shopping Centre) Kuala Lumpur is now opened! A new, noteworthy cafe in KL to check out before 2017 ends. We aren’t regulars to Plaza Damas but there are always reasons that brought us back. From Warung Soho price-value Nasi Kerabu to Kanteen Plus delicious curry fish head, Lush Bowl healthy eats and Rubberduck Cafe delightful smoothie bowls and the latest, Hachi Bakery that lines up with an array of Japanese-inspired baking goodness. Feels good to be back for good food.
Bakery Cafe HACHI, a Japanese owned bakery is the latest addition to Sri Hartamas, which meets the community’s demand for high quality and healthy products that are preservative free.
Another that we had is of course the Croque Monsieur (RM 18) satisfies with its ham and gooey cheese. The taste is awesome and it is very filing. Delicious!
Verdict: Food was just average for me, it did not hit us with huge surprise. But the Hainanese Chicken Chop was praise worthy and had all of us nodding away in agreement. My sis also bought their Kaya Bao which turned out to be quite decent and her daughter like it.
The top notch quality meat and other produces certainly contemplate returning.
One of our favourite dishes here is Spicy Carbonara (RM21) and it tasted just as delicious as it was a year ago. While the pasta sauce by itself was already creamy, the creative addition of raw egg yolk gave out an even more rich and thick flavours.
