This restaurant serves fantastic seafood, with a friendly good service and provides comfortable dining environment.
Ginger & Egg Soup is a signature dish here and the preparation is excellent. One of those soups that is deep bodied, slightly spicy and has a gingery aftertaste. The flavours are just amazing and it is a must have for us each time we are here. My rating for this shall be 9/10
Iced Hainanese Coffee @ RM 3.50 Their Hainanese Coffee and Tea and two top sellers here. As always, the drinks had been consistently good and the flavours have been bold. My rating for these drinks would be 9/10.
Hainanese Chicken Chop @ RM 17.00. The set comes with a slice of Fried Chicken which is topped with tomato puree, peas and onions. And on the sides, you get a small piece of Man Tau Bun and some Mashed Potatoes. Of course, it does taste good but again, there has got to be some justification to it. This is a small town but these guys have become like a premium steak house. Another thing that I didn't like was the burnt Man Tau Bun. The colour of it would speak for itself. Otherwise, it was a good dish. The flavours were still authentic and it does taste good. My rating for this solely from the taste point of view would be 9/10.
This Pepper Soup is the second most sought after dish here. This Pepper Soup comes in two choices, with or without noodles. The noodles used is the usual Rice Vermicelli. This soup is filled with cabbage and pork slices and with a whole load of pepper that gets you sweating to all glory the moment you take the first sip. The Pepper he uses is not the common pepper but one that is purchased at those Chinese Medical Halls, and a very pricey one too. An excellent dish! Good also for a cold night and especially when one is having flu. One has got to try this at least once and you'd love it. Guaranteed satisfaction! I would rate this dish at 10/10
Moonlight Char Kuey Teow @ RM 10.00. This is by far the most sought after dish here. Usually by around 10 pm, the Kuey Teow is sold out. It comes with a raw egg on the top and has to be mixed thoroughly. Something that you would not be able to find elsewhere except for Kim Lian Kee in Petaling Street. Both of them invented this Moonlight Char Kuey Teow dish at around the same time. An absolutely delicious dish. The dish itself comes with lots of cabbage and pork and once mixed with the egg, gives such a creamy taste. I have seen many people, including those that I have brought, been put off by the sight of the raw egg but once they tasted the dish, they were hooked on to it. Even today, I still have cousins of mine who tried this in their chidhood, keep mentioning about this dish to me and how good it was. And that's like after 20 plus years. This itself should be an indicator as to how good this dish is. Though Kim Lian Kee has the same, I have tasted both and for me, Leong Kee is the winner. That previous does not come anywhere close to this latter preparation. Again I would rate this 10/10 .
The community in Sungai Bakap/ Jawi, a sleepy town located at the south of Penang State is believed to share a common root- Teo Chew. Those who are in the know would know where to find authentic Teo Chew delicacies, one of which is Shun Li Dim Sum & Restaurant in the old town. If you are unfamiliar with the narrow streets, ask any locals and they will be able to direct you to the right destination. The place is familiar amongst the local residents and has proven to be an intimating family-restaurant. There are quite a few Teo Chew origin dishes available here, the most notable ones being their Teo Chew Chai Kuih.
Claypot Tofu with Pork Belly is one of my favourites here and I tend to order it most of the time. I just love the way the dish is prepared. The tofu is so soft and good and the broth has a balanced flavour. The crispy Pork Belly adds an amazing taste to the overall dish. Absolutely lovely and my rating for this shall be 9/10.
Porridge is one of my favourite dishes at this restaurant. Every time I am here, this is like a must order dish. Just look at the amount of the ingredients used. It came with so much sliced pork, century eggs and ginger and the one that truly gave it a marvelous taste was the generously used ginger. Honestly, I never liked rice porridge prior to tasting it at Claypot Junction simply because of the flat taste but this one was something else. If this is how porridge would taste, I wouldn't mind having this on a daily basis. Each scoop was filled with a burst of flavours and it was served piping hot. Truly some marvelous porridge and it deserves a rating of nothing less than a perfect 10/10
The Guinness Stout Pork Ribs were excellent. The ribs were meaty, so juicy and it was an addictive dish that disappeared in a matter of minutes. 10/10 shall be my rating for this.
The last dish that we had ordered is Steamed Tilapia Fish with Bird Eye Chilies and Ginger. This combination is quite rare in Tanjung Malim and apparently, it is their house specialty and I am truly glad that we had ordered this dish. It was so good so much so, we enjoyed every bit of it. A dish that I would highly recommend and my rating for this shall be 10/10
As always, the Curry Mee at this restaurant is awesome. Those who are health conscious may find it to be on the oily side but taste wise, it is really good. Even their Yong Tau Fu items are tasty. My rating for this Curry Mee would be 9/10
My usual order will include a combination of the Roast Duck, with the Crispy Roast Pork & the Stuffed Liver Sausage, No doubt the food here is good, there are those similar on the Island, but not in this particular combination. Total RM11 with one Chinese Tea, Pricy one would say.
Marmite Pork Ribs @ RM 7.50. Another excellent preparation. The Pork Ribs came with just the right amount of meat attached to it. Coated with flour and cooked with Marmite, the dish was simply delicious. The meat was still tender and not overcooked and the Marmite seeped in to the meat perfectly well. I would rate this dish at 9/10 .
So today, we could only enjoy their Char Siew, Roasted Chicken and Roasted Duck. Do note that they do not do Steamed Chicken. I would rate their Char Siew at 9/10, their Roasted Duck at 9/10 and their Roasted Chicken at 9/10.
One of their top sellers is their Petai Mee Hoon. A signature dish that was invented by the chef and is fried with Sambal Belacan. That unique taste is one that is truly awesome. Another one that I would recommend here would be their Pork Spring Rolls. They are meaty, really juicy and is best to have it with a dash of lime and their dip sauce. These would be two dishes that is not to be missed here.
