I was so happy to have this Haidilao Hotpot (海底捞火锅) at Clarke Quay on time for this promotion period from 27 Nov to 20 Dec 2023 (over already).

The good service was apparent from the time you are seated as the waiter offers you a ziplock bag for your phone and special wet wipes to clean your spectacle lenses! Feels kind of pampered.
This was generous plate of braised duck rice at $7.50. The duck was tender, had a good duck fragrance and a refined yet layered braise. The peanuts were soft and the cabbage tender and savoury. The Puning tofu was really soft, smooth and delicate, and felt velvety against the palate. Really nice.

Mimi Restaurant in Clark Quay is not like your typical Chinese restaurant. The upper floor dining hall is a stylish contemporary space in a historical building. The menu is interesting and prices are reasonable.

I know that I've had a lot of hot pot lately, but I needed lunch today, and this place happened to be nearby (6 Eu Tong Sen Street #03-87, 6221-5550). It seems to be a chain started by some Haidilao alumni, right across the river from the latter's original Clarke Quay location.
I liked the food, including a broth that was filled with a nice assortment of mushrooms, as well as a decently well-stocked seasoning bar.

Lao You Xuan Noodle Kitchen is a humble family-run place, with not-bad food at affordable pricing. The eatery is not always crowded, and staff would take time to explain the dishes.

On the whole, there were hits and misses. However, our dinner at Shin Yeh Taiwanese Restaurant in Liang Court might be a fair representation of eating in Taiwan – there would be some forgettable stuff, some decent dishes and some really delicious and enjoyable food.
