For the meat lovers, THIRTY8 offers Australian 'Diamantina' Red Wagyu or Black Angus Beef from Stanbroke Farms. We had the rib eye (350g, marbling score 6 - RM350), which was thoughtfully sliced for sharing. Beautifully tender, melt-in-the-mouth and flavorful meat, we certainly enjoyed this and went straight to steak heaven. So so good! I'm also eyeing the Tomahawk for my next visit, very reasonably priced at RM350 for 900g.

Verdict: The food we had was just mediocre but I know there are people who love their food but definitely not me. The long waiting time and the uncomfortable dining environment (outdoor seats) most probably the main factors that deter me for a revisit.

One of the signature (and popular) dishes here is the Nasi Ayam (RM55), aka chicken rice. Guests can opt for either roasted or poached chicken. We went for the roasted chicken and I was impressed by the generous portion that arrived. Tastewise, the chicken was tender and comes with three different dipping sauce - chilli, ginger and sweet soy sauce. The rice was pretty good too, as it was fragrant and flavorful. Although I'm glad that the standard of the food has been maintained, the service from the kitchen was far from smooth. The waiting period for our food leaves much to be desired and, if you want to eat here, do not expect your food to arrive in the right order that it should be. It all depends on how busy each individual food station is (steaming station, noodles station, frying station, etc.) with their orders as they seem to churn out food independent of each other. I guess if you choose your timing wisely (like during non lesser peak times), hopefully you may end up with a much better dining experience. ^_* But having said that, the food is still good, some decent but mostly good...plus it still serves one of my favourite XLBs. The only downside, their prices seem to have risen quite significantly but their portions still remain small...even a vegetable dish of pea shoots ("tau miew") can cost RM26....haiz!

have to admit that the food was more than decent as all four dishes we had were well executed. But prices may be on the high side and it'll be even pricier if we take the portion size into consideration. We ordered two portions for each of our dishes but the portion size actually seems more like one portion (when compared to other places)...hehe! ;D So, if you're a small-eater or someone who loves petite portions, then the food here could be just right for you. For me, it's one of those 'once in a long while' places to visit :)

My Personal Opinion If you're looking to eat some one-plate rice meals, small stir-fry (siu chow) dishes or fried rice and noodles or big stir-fry (tai chow) dishes with rice in absolute comfort without breaking a sweat (literally) and the bank...this is a top contender! Most of the one-dish rice meals are priced very reasonably under RM20 (with good portions too) for a location like this.

Chilli Crab 辣椒蟹 Market Price [Recommended] Chilli crab hits all the right spots with tangy gravy that seeps into the succulent flesh of the stir-fried crab, served with the shell on, and best to paired with Hainan toast. This dish consists of fresh crabs cooked in a sweet, savoury and spicy gravy, it is a real treat and best eaten with your hands! Fried Fish Paste Noodles, 11.90 ringgit Food was good. I especially loved the broth. It was milky and the taste of fish paste was evident, prominent. The dose of Chinese wine was a good addition, it provided that extra ‘kick’, one that made slurping the broth an even more joy. They had 3 options for noodles and while I was intending to have my dish with YM – yellow mee, the waiter suggested that it would go better with MH – mee hoon. Since they do not offer an option of mixed noodles, I went along with their suggestion. The noodles sure were generously portioned. The White Prawns (RM52)and Bluefin Leatherjacket fish (RM22) we had were very fresh and sweet. Personally, we prefer to dunk these into the milder broths (tomato and mushroom broths) to better savour the fresh sweetness of the seafood and vegetables.
