the menu is fun, and the food served is just as delightful.
The Playground Coffee doesn't serve the best cafe fare in Singapore, but for the relatively affordable price point, and good cups of joe that they pull, they are definitely the best cafe in the west. And, they are the only cafe that I'll return to in the west.
I can see myself returning if they were located nearer to me, but WEST IS JUST DAMN FAR.
I will recommend anyone to Great Eater if they are looking for Chili Crab.
Overall the Fried Hokkien Mee tasted not bad but not the best of my preference.
Although the location is definitely ‘ulu’, I would really recommend making the trip here for their wok hei filled goodness.
The Sarawak laksa gravy was woody and slightly more sour than the usual Sarawak laksa, due to I think more tamarind. The slightly tangy and lemony gravy tasted different, and was a good palate opener and very drinkable.
The chicken itself was not so tender, and not so moist with minimal flavour. I could even taste a bit of chao ta. The savoury salted egg sauce was matt, sandy and didn’t have much of the salted egg fragrance. The coleslaw was slightly off, and fries were normal. Felt quite jelak after the meal.
Tai Seng serves decent fish soup, but if they can improve on the quality of their fish it would definitely help them to stand out more.
My intention was to check out this stall called "roast paradise" at Old Airport Road hawker centre but it had already closed for the day when i arrived at about 4.00 pm on a Saturday!
The curry was not bad, thick, fragrant, spicy and savoury with rempah (including ginger, lemongrass and onion); not so lemak or sweet.
