What is interesting about this cake is there are two layers of cheese. That’s why they called it double cheese cake. The top layer of the cake is non-baked cheese while the bottom layer of the cake is baked cheese. The texture of the top layer is soft like ‘tofu’ similar to Uncle Tetsu style of cheese cake while the bottom layer is strong with cheese flavour. We find the cheese cake taste is just right, soft and the really addictive.

The Battle For Peace-Tachio, 18 ringgit. This was delicious. A perfect blend of sponge, mousse and couli. Do not let the chocolate exterior fool you into thinking this would be a chocolate sweet delight. Nope. It is more of a delicious mix of bitter sweet delight. The chocolate had a bitterness to it that complemented the chocolate mouse and pistachio filling. The raspberry couli provided a sour ‘kick’ that to the sweet and bitterness of this dessert. It is different but decadent and delicious. Loved it.

Laduree - Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Restaurant

Lot 3.32, Level 3 Pavilion Kuala Lumpur 168 Bukit Bintang 55100 Kuala Lumpur

It all began in 1862, when Louis Ernest Ladurée, a miller from France’s southwest, created a bakery in Paris at 16 rue Royale. The beginning of this century found Paris wrapped up in a frenzy of distraction and going out in public. Louis Ernest Ladurée’s wife, Jeanne Souchard, had the idea of mixing styles: The Parisian café and pastry shop gave birth to one of the first tea salons in town. The story of the Ladurée Macaroon starts in the middle of the 20th century with Pierre Desfontaines, who first thought of taking two macaroon shells and joining them with a delicious ganache filling. The reputation of this ‘salon de thé’ created an environment for gastronomic creativity in Paris.

It was at the height of the macaron craze, when we had our first taste of the world-renowned Laduree macarons in Paris. We fell in love with both the salted caramel and rose flavour, and have been lusting after them ever since. Fast forward to four years later, Laduree has finally arrived in Malaysia. They recently opened their doors at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, bringing sweet treats and delicious desserts to our shores.

I have eaten a few macarons in KL but always find them to be too sweet so I do not understand why they are so popular. Then I read that the best macarons are made by Laduree in France so I told myself that if I ever visit Paris again, I am going to try the macarons at Laduree. Near the end of November this year, Laduree is finally available in KL at the Pavilion Mall so I do not need to fly to Paris to taste their macarons.

Pure Indulgence, 20 ringgit. If you are looking for something sweet to fill you up, then do give this a try. Pure Indulgence is another crowd favourite and it includes fluffy Belgian Waffles coated with Belgian chocolate sauce + Banana + strawberries + a scoop of ice cream. It was filling but I aint complaining, lol. My ice cream of choice was Chocolate. They had several other flavors like Matcha, Salted Egg, Durian D 24, French Vanilla. The ice creams are a Must Try. Rich and creamy, it was really good. Just a scoop by itself will cost you 7 Ringgit or if you want to indulge like me, have the whole works with waffles via Pure Indulgence. The waffles used are the same as the ones I got in Murakami. Top that waffle with some chocolate sauce and decadent chocolate ice cream? and some banana? Gooood Stuff. Delicious.

My favorite item from this set was definitely the matcha roll cake. This Japanese-style roll cake is light and fluffy, and best of all, comes with a generous amount of whipped cream and matcha flavoured cream. The matcha taste was intense, absolutely lovely.
