Pretty good fried banana fritters and friend nian gao. The batter is nice, kinda special.
The fresh bananas are peeled battered on the spot, and fried at the roadside stall. We didn’t get to try the curry puff, but all fritters were great, with pisang goreng being the best of course. What makes the goreng pisang here stand out from the rest is the use of pisang raja which are firm, soft and incredibly sweet.
While I wouldn’t say these fried fritters were out of this world, they were still delicious and definitely better than those I had eaten previously. This is so far my champion of pisang goreng! 🙂
Nasi Lemak PEEL ROAD
Loaded my plate with fried chicken, sambal sotong and mutton curry. All the dishes went well with the rice, which was creamy but subtle. I can see why the chicken is so popular – extremely flavourful (not just on the skin but on the inside as well), addictively crunchy on the outside whilst being tender and moist on the inside. The mutton curry was not gamey at all and not too spicy; while the sambal sotong had a nice sweet and savoury tang to it with just enough kick. Two plates cost us RM15, which is very reasonable imo considering its a meal in the city centre.
Verdict Overall there was simply nothing bad to say about Peel Road Nasi Lemak. It tastes much like the conventional nasi lemak but with a little porky twist. The variety of side dishes can be a little overwhelming and the prices are fair due to it being a road side stall.
I ate my prawn mee Hoon mix with yellow noodles. The livers are from the pork Mee Hoon. I requested for just a bit of broth to be put together with the noodles so it was like a dry version of prawn noodles. Very tasty, I like it. Will definitely buy again this way.
One day, I decided to have economy fried noodles for breakfast. The noodles are not fried on order but are already fried in bulk and sold as is. As this fried noodle is sold by Kim Hung Nasi Lemak stall at Swee Hing coffee shop, I added one whole hard boiled egg, some curry potatoes and some acar (pickled vegetables). This whole dish costs MYR 6 nett. I kept half of everything for lunch and had a satisfying breakfast.
Nasi Lemak (Coconut milk rice) bought from a stall in Swee Hing coffee shop, Sri Petaling with acar (pickled vegetables) and curry chicken - at about MYR7.
Because I had a few meals today and only decided to order MAMA Noodle with Meatballs @ RM 12.80 (for 2 pax) – single pax is RM 7.80. This is pretty obvious that the soup is cook by themselves as at home we could not cook such a big batch. Soup is pretty good, where resembles the powder of mama noodle, and the soup do taste a little sweet, sourish as it needs and not too spicy, which I felt it is just right that many of non spicy eater can accept too. A pretty generic bowl of noodle soup.
Jumping straight to the main point, this is the Mama Creamy Tom Yum Deluxe, the signature dish, selling at RM 14.80. A bowl that consists of Yee Mee noodle, pork ball meat balls, prawns, squids and runny bull eye that paired with creamy Tom Yum soup all together. What's unique about it was nothing. Perhaps the effort on plating was the one that attracted the customers in. I personally felt very thirsty after eating, which I think it is a bad thing, right? So the choice is yours.
Verdict: It’s a burger that tick all the boxes for me in terms of flavours (I don’t like saucy burger) and price (it’s very wallet friendly). Revisit? Why not? (☆▽☆)
Overall, Max really enjoyed this burger. If you’re a big eater, we advise ordering two Smash Double with Onions for a fuller meal. Ming still prefers the juicier burgers at Bones, but Max enjoyed this unique offering from Local Area Burger.
Roti John Titiwangsa, Dato Keramat is one of the best Roti John in Kuala Lumpur, and in this video, we tried Roti John for our very first time, and it was indeed a scrumptious meal! Roti John is one of the local Malaysian favourite street food, usually for dinner or midnight snack. The fries are topped on the Roti John and a generous amount of sauce is added on top. We're surprised how stuffed we are after eating the entire meal of Roti John!
I ordered the CKT with an extra fried egg (RM 8). I had been warned that the CKT here is not the dry wok hei type of affair. It’s a slightly soggy and moist plate. You will likely be let down on your first bite. The taste creeps up on you. There’s prawns, siham, lap cheong, and crispy fried pork lard – all the ingredients that’s supposed to be in a plate of CKT.
Char Kuey Teow (Big RM7, Small RM6) It had a delightful smoky aroma, the noodles were soft, slightly moist and accompanied by the usual CKT ingredients such as decent sized prawns and lots of Chinese sausages to balance the sweet and savoury flavours. The Char Kuey Teow was no doubt delicious, there wasn’t any oversized prawn or salted egg, just a delicious plate of char kuey teow with strong “wok hei” flavours.
But I hit jackpot when I discovered Pak Angah nasi lemak. His kerang sambal is one of his signatures (the other being paru and their famous Ayam Sambal) and deservingly so – plump and cooked with sambal infused with kaffir lime leaves, every juicy bivalve was fragrant (citrusy) and rather addictive.
This is their famous curry mee. To me it taste like vegetarian curry mee. Taste is slightly mild, fragrant of coconut milk and a curry leave. A simple bowl of curry mee KL version. The set back is there is not much ingredient. comes with only taupok, siham and fish cake. @ RM 6
It’s easy to pass off Alor Corner Curry Noodle as another food stall that caters to tourists. All the more so when it’s situated right at the entrance to the world famous Jalan Alor. But if you put away your skepticism and gave it a try, you will be rewarded with one of the most authentic and tastiest curry mee in KL. In fact, I would describe this as the definitive version of KL curry mee.
Jalan Alor curry mee is good. It is the authentic KL curry mee with thick spicy and savoury broth. It comes with cockles, some slices of chicken, long bean, beans sprout and brinjal.
We wanted to take away and they had skilfully packed them with layers of plastic between the Appam's so that they do not stick on to one another. I have not seen this Sri Lankan variety of Appam made elsewhere except in Ceylonese homes and functions. Except that of late, we do have some Sri Lankan restaurants that do have these but they are sold at premium prices. I believe that this is the only place where you could get them in a stall like concept. The Appam's were perfect. The plain Appam's were priced at RM 1.50 each and the ones with Brown Sugar are priced at RM 1.70 each. I would rate these Appam's at 9/10 . Definitely some good stuff !
It wouldn’t be fair if I were to compare the ones I bought at Chen Brothers to the ones I had at the durian buffet, considering the differences in price. All I can say is that, if you are looking for good quality D24 durians, go buy them from Chen Brothers. If you have a good appetite for a whole load of D24 durians, go to SK6363.
For RM 16, we have no complains. The durian quality is pretty decent and we love the taste. If you a durian lover especially D24, you should be here. This will end your durian cravings for sure. We had enough durian for the three meals today and probably tomorrow. Remember, eat durian sensibly! Please take note that durians availability are seasonal and the durian rates are correct on 27/6/2016.
As far as I know this is the only durian buffet in town and it’s bang for your bucks at only RM16/pax. All of us who came for it went home happy and I hope you will feel the same too.
A PERSONAL FAVOURITE & MUST TRY - Chicken Porridge (RM 6.50) serves with good grade chicken meat, a generous portion of tender and juicy poached chicken with flavourful plain congee!
Some of the popular kuih or food at Nyonya Heritage includes yam cake, pumpkin cake, rice pudding cake, boba dessert, magic ball, fried mee hoon and noodles, steam glutinous rice, fried prawn fritter (cucur udang), kuih and more.
Choose from favourites of stuffed Tofu, Chillies, Tofu Pok, Bendi, Brinjal, Foo Chuk Rolls, Bittergourd, Fishballs and many more. Priced at RM 1.60 per pc, this is really a steal for its yummy, tender & meaty offerings!
I bought 2 packets of KOPI KAW less sugar for RM 3 per packet. It was soooo good, rich and full-bodied coffee will get you hooked. Highly recommended for KOPI KAW lovers!
Since this is my first time, I order the 3 mix combination. @ RM 10 Fill with chicken, roast pork and char siew. Servings is pretty decent, as it is not much but good enough to try it out. Roast pork is good, as it have well balance of meat and fats in between and best of all the skin is crackling. I wont say char siew the best but decent enough for any cravings. Chicken is soft and juicy to my liking.
Top Kitchen, the stall that churns out great Penang Char Koay Teow in Kepong had relocated to a coffee shop just further down the road. Since there are still quite a number of people who don’t know about the relocation and thought they closed down, here’s the update post.
It was hot, fresh off the stove. It was spicy too .. the kind whereby your forehead starts to sweat, lol. The cook did ask us whether spicy was okay and we were all ‘Yesssss!’. When this happens elsewhere and I request for spicy, it rarely is spicy. Here however, if you want spicy – they’ll give you spicy. I missed it …the sweating , the mouth in desperate need for water, your face starting to sweat all over. Kaw kaw, man. This dish is basically a combination of rice + curry gravy + chicken. Ooo man, deliciousss. Thick, spicy gravy. A generous portion of rice and medium size chicken pieces. Yup, we enjoyed it for sure.
Seriously, nothing beats a plate of steamed rice sided with tender and juicy deep-fried chicken then doused with flavourful Kuah Kari Ayam, it's simply the best comfort food ever.
