Char Koay Kak in Reservoir Garden is serving one of the best in Penang due to the char grill flavor and savory of the delicious char koay kak.
Frying the oyster omelet for more than 20 years, the owner of the stall is always busy frying at night time. The oysters are big and juicy covered with the flavorful omelet, this dish is so unforgettable and it make you want to come back for more.
If you love spicy, do prepare to be numb, drench in sweat and tears keep dripping. Its super spicy and usually I mix it with the one without spicy to get the mild spicy taste.
I believe you can see how much effort been put it to maintain the freshness of the fruit by judging on the amount of ice they have added on. We think fruits are best to go with their original sauce.
As for the freshly cut fruits, the choices are way more than the usual Rojak, the special ones are definitely Jack Fruit, Cherry Tomatoes, Papaya and Water Apple. The freshness of the fruits was successfully preserved thanks to the massive usage of ice cubes to maintain the temperature. Truly refreshing to have a skewer or two under the scorching hot sun.
The taste of the curry mee is milky, packed with coconut milk flavor, savory and spicy. I love the thick and aroma soup that make this curry mee delicious.
One of the delicious yet refreshing koay teow thng is located at the round about of Air Itam, it is just infront of Lye Lye Food Court. The taste of the soup is clear and nice, it is packed with fried garlic flavor. It makes people going for more.
What can be an expert on fresh milk than a person that selling fresh milk for 32 years? Rather than known as Susu Aneh, is operating his fresh milk stall just in front of Air Itam Market for decades and there are additional add-ons to the milk to make it more flavourful or even extra energy for the diners required.
Personally, I enjoyed Roy A1 Nasi Kandar much. On top of getting a plate of Nasi Kandar that fits my appetite, I can avoid the flock of tourists at the same time.
Overall, Max enjoyed the Hokkien Mee as he found the broth to be well-balanced. However, Ming found the broth to be lacking in umami.
Penang is food paradise and one of the must haves is the Hokkien Mee (also known as Prawn Mee in Kuala Lumpur). If you look for the Best Hokkien Mee in town, you'd definitely come across the legendary 888 Hokkien Mee at Lebuh Presgrave (3rd Street) in Georgetown, Penang. Based on our experience, it's definitely the best we've had.
很过瘾,好多好多的配料任君选。
Overall, burger was nice but on a personal preference level, we would hoped for presence of onions and more shredded vegetables being added. One more thing we could not understand is the absence of egg. Bearing a premium price of RM 6.50 (normal chicken burger) yet egg was absence, this is something we could not understand.
I guess for the past 4 months, anything related to cheese is a crazy big hype. It is the same as when I was at Penang past 2 weeks and decided to make a visit to this new crazy hype or we all known as our classic street burger or ramlee burger in Penang is now evolve to another level. Street Grill, Burger Bakar that is located at Sungai Pinang, Penang is a classic burger bakar version that is infuse with chese! Only operating for about 2 months and the hype is over the roof.
Here's the location.
[Pork-free, Muslim-friendly] Uncle, kopi ping ikat tepi tapau satu! Starbright Coffee serves traditional coffee from a cart on Lebuh Noordin.
We order hot too. to my own preference, the Ice cold coffee is a must have. Love the aroma, of it that gives you a very unique finishing. Sort of like sourness is quite close to lemon which is kind of different level of acidic. Best of all, this is our local coffee. I believe there are a few mixture of coffee powder in it to make it such a great drink.
The chapati is fluffy, moist and keeps nicely soft for a long period of time, thanks to Mamu's years of experimentation on the best combination of water and different varieties of flour. The roti jala, on the other hand, has a crepe-like softness as he uses lots of eggs in the batter.
The roti jala was just decent but the chapati did justice to its reputation. Thin, well puffed with a delightful char aroma (not charcoal but gas was used though), it was light yet with a pleasant chew. We mopped up copious amount of the sweet, spicy sambal sardin with every bite.
The Chapatis, flat unleavened breads made with the combination of atta flour (grinded whole wheat flour) and water, mildly toasted on a preheated dry skillet (tava). Thus, it’s and fiber-rich and low in cholesterol, making the bread healthy for just everyone, especially those with diabetics. The Roti Jala (Netted Bread or Lacy Crepe) on the other hand, is a local delicacy, especially during the fasting month in Malaysia. The mixture prior to being molded on a preheated skillet, “screwpine” brushed with oil, consists of flour, eggs, milk, salt, turmeric powder (coloring) and water. Both these delicacies would go well with any curry dishes.
Overall, this stall may have its loyal fans but we won’t be one of them. Thankfully, we only queued 45 minutes for this. If you fancy rojak on the (very) sweet side – this stall might be worth a visit, but we advise coming at night for a shorter queuing time. As for us, this will be our last visit.
Looking forward for its braised chicken feet and braised pig stomach which only offers in the weekends.
The Koay Teow Soup was good but not great. Soup is lightly scented but as we consumed it, the taste started to build up. It was scantly topped with slices of duck meats that hardly justify its higher price tags. If you prefer a bolder taste, add some pepper, soy sauce and chili to spice it up. Probably this is one of the most expensive hawker Koay Teow Soup we ever had in Penang.
On the other corner, Koay Teow Soup has been running their business since the father's generation. The taste still nothing changes since then the broth's natural sweetness brings up the Koay Teow Soup flavor. For those that miss the real Penang Street food those days, this is the place to list down on the checklist.
Wahap is a classic stall at Jalan Dato Keramat that is selling Murtabak and also Roti Canai. This humble little stall is located just opposite Pos Office Dato Keramat. Serving delicious Murtabak and also special Roti Sarang Burung (Birdnest), the price of the dishes here is very reasonable. This place is a must to visit for those that love murtabak or roti canai.
The satay stall at new lane food corner is one of the few pork stay stalls in Penang that sells pork meat. The satay stall here is the branch of Batu Maung which has been around for some time. The taste of the satay is slight sweet taste with a touch of spiciness. The peanut gravy is packed with peanut flavor and is very rich and creamy.
You can pick to have either thin or thick for the fried noodles too. Comparing to the conventional noodles, the fried noodles are crispier and exhibit a more distinctive texture. Fried noodles are not something that get offered in traditional wantan noodle store so it is good to try it here.
Apom Telur Island Glades has been around at Hawker Corner of Island Glades for ages and now is passing down to the 3rd Generation. Serving the traditional type of apom it is very classic and mixing the bite texture of outer crunchy while inner fluffy, this stall is one of the recommended apom in town.
Our favorites are braised pork and onion small prawns. It spiced the plain porridge, allowing you enjoy the original taste of each of the dish.
