Eaten over a few days. The best of these were the char koay teow (smoky and fragrant), wan tan mee (nicely savoury), and bbq chicken wings (sweet and crispy outside). The lor bak and or luah were not bad. Can stay away from the satay (a bit dry) and char koay kak (indeterminate flavour).
New Lane Hawker Centre (New Lane Hawker Street) in George Town, Penang, is one of the best places to get all your Penang food cravings! You'll find amazing classic Penang street foods such as Assam Laksa, Char Kuay Teow, O'chien (Oyster Omelette), and even local desserts like Ice Kacang! The best part is everything we tasted here was delicious!
There are a few long established stalls such as Penang Famous Curry Mee (80 years of history passing down from the grandfather), Penang Famous Wan Tan Mee (40 over years of history) and Penang Famous Koay Teow Thng (30 years of history and currently manned by the 2nd generation). These stalls have been running for decades since when they were at Lebuh Chulia (Chulia Street). We hope that these stalls would remain and keep running for many years to come as these are the gems of Penang Island.
Penang is known for its street food scene and one of the must-visit spots is the Chulia Street Night Hawker Stalls. In the evenings, the place transforms into a food street serving a variety of dishes like Curry Mee, Char Koay Teow and Wan Tan Mee. The lively atmosphere and busy street creates a sense of authenticity and somehow makes the food yummier!
We also ordered this from the stall right in front of where we sat. The Char Kway Teow was good with good smoky flavour imparted from frying process as well as the enticing flavour of the soy sauce, chili, egg and all the ingredients.
Hubby’s perfect bowl of Hokkien Mee aka Prawn Mee in Klang Valley with add on roasted pork. There is a list of add on ingredients such as Siew Yoke (roasted pork), pork intestine, and pork ribs if you want a more luxurious version of Hokkien Mee. The flavours of the broth was as pronounced as it should be. Fried pork lard bits were added too to amp up the flavour.

The Koay Teow Theng (RM 4) is soothing and nice in taste. It was seasoned nicely and comes with slices of meat and fish balls.

This Stall opens after 7pm . Other Stalls offering a verity of Penang Favorites can be found. As they take turns for their Off Day, you can be sure there will be stalls open dail here.
