Comparing the standard of ramen, Ramen Taisho served quality and tasty Ramen in the heartlands. Pricing wise, it is also relatively reasonable for the standard that we are paying for.
This was quite a good ramen. The gyokai tonkotsu ramen had a good pork, powdered fish and seafood flavour, with a very drinkable smoky soup that I finished, al dente ramen, perfect onsen egg, and thick and tasty cha shu.
Just like a relic in the museum, hawker culture anchors our identity to a distant past, constantly reminding us of our shared heritage.

Their grilled fishes were quite nicely done and there's a kaisen chahan that was unexpectedly peppery. The latter wasn't a bad thing.
The miso bowl looked a deeper brown than the regular bowl.
Overall, a decent and interesting bowls. I think there were some aspects that lowered the dining experience.
You can taste that his duck ramen is not merely by putting different components together but each process from the soup, duck and noodle is carefully thought through and probably many months of taste test until the right formula is obtained.
The fish was quite fresh, tasty and creamy. Not bad.
If there are not further constrains, the restaurants can consider selling some hot side dishes.
Umi Nami proved to be a simple, no-frills Japanese eatery. Their prices are low, but so was their generosity.
The Chirashi Don was really of very good Japanese restaurant standard. Everything was very fresh, thick and did not have any of the frozen aftertaste. The swordfish was one of the most creamy I had tasted, and everything else including the prawn and scallop was creamy yet refreshing and firm. Only the tuna had a slightly frozen aftertaste. Really nice.
Goro Japanese Cuisine would work as a great option spot for a meal in a cosy environment away from the hustle and bustle from town
Well, to be more precise, they said the bones of pig's heads. No actual pig's head are featured in the bowl. Just charshu.
Many may have known Ippudo as an ramen outlet but for the first time, Ippudo is collaborating with Hattendo and will be serving cafe inspired dishes and coffee offerings!
Overall I feel the food at Takeshi-San is unpretentious with a modern take of classic Japanese cuisine.
It's safe to say that we'll never return.
If you love shabu shabu, this is another restaurant that you can add to your list.
Though Yuzutei offers a small and limited menu, all items were well-executed. Quality broth and ingredients were used in both their signature items, the Yuzu Shabu and Hot Stone Grill. Certainly value-for-money.
The Onsen Egg and tempura crispy bits do their part in making up yummy the bowl of Mentaiko Chicken Katsu Bowl.
I thought the pork belly was a bit thin and its overall texture somewhat unsatisfying (neither with bite nor melt in your mouth), and whole thing was not so memorable.
Colleagues i am closed to would know i am a huge fan of Waa Cow ; to the extent that i would dine there at least once a month (more likely ...
Tried their chicken gyoza which tasted pretty much like most gyozas. Skin looked a little pale.
Very normal, slightly heavy pancakes. And I thought matcha cream wasn’t quite suitable to be used in a mont blanc swirl – slightly too heavy in term of flavour.
One of their most hyped-up options are the Mont Blanc Pancakes ($18), which features a stack of fluffy pancakes garnished with an avalanche of matcha mousse, matcha mont blanc (chestnut-flavoured) sauce, fresh cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Besides The Japanese Food Alley, there are other stalls you may want to patronize in the same coffeeshop:
Overall, Gan Yakitori @ Star Vista remains the cosy Japanese izakaya styled restaurant in Buona Vista. It is definitely a good place to have lunch or to have drinks with some of the grilled yakitori items.
3 reviews of Gan Yakitori "Unless its tori-q (which i have a soft spot for) yakitori can get pretty expensive, pretty fast. gan is no exception. But quality is always high, service is great, and the ambience is nice and sexy (great date place,…
While the ramen here may not sit well with self-proclaimed ramen purists, it is one spot that ramen lovers should check out especially for those who are open to the idea of having an unconventional bowl of ramen with a different take; it is probably what Ramen Atelier does best in!
Chef-owner Andrew Ng was trained in French cuisine, and had been working in Western food establishments for more than a decade.
Ushering the Lunar New Year in the Year of Dragon 2024, many eateries have juiced up their creativity by offering and tantalizing dishes.
Good Japanese flavour with the shoyu, unlike the miso which was more subtle and not so easily identified. The noodles were cooked well and springy, and all the various toppings – Japanese charshu, sliced pork, minced pork, pork balls, deep fried lard and mock abalone – were tender and fresh.
NATSU aims to attract crowds with its reasonable pricing and quality fare.
We visited Kaisen Ichi twice but both times were disappointing. Somehow each and every item seems to be lacking of some key seasoning. It just doesn’t taste any where close to those in the authentic Japanese Restaurant.
sorry won’t come back!
Overall, Kanpai Izakaya was a no frills place serving the easy going casual food that we associate with dining at an izakaya.
