Nasi Kandar Kampung Melayu is one of the best spots for Nasi Kandar when you visit Penang.
Personally, I enjoyed Roy A1 Nasi Kandar much. On top of getting a plate of Nasi Kandar that fits my appetite, I can avoid the flock of tourists at the same time.
Aside from the staples, Tomyam Campur (RM 6) was good with a generous portion of chicken slices and seafood. Though it did not taste fiery hot as we expecting from the Thai style tomyam, it still fit well to our appetite.
Hameediyah Restaurant is famous for its signature curries, kurmas, Kapitan, murtabak, nasi biryani, rendang, mee goreng, and other dishes. The recent Sotong Viral (The Viral Squid) is also one of the factors that make diners dashing from around the globe to this restaurant. With all the nice and delicious recipes intact with nice service and cozy ambiance. Hameediyah Restaurant is one of the Nasi Kandar places to visit in Penang.
The Beef Rendang is a particular winner... with rich and in-depth flavors
A specialty not to be missed is Murtabak (flat bread). Made at the show kitchen at the entrance of the restaurant, the murtabak comes stuffed with a choice of minced chicken, beef, mutton or vegetable fillings. Served with a simple helping of pickled onions, the pan-fried murtabak is simply delectable when paired with a bit of curry chicken and nutty dalcha โ a lentil curry infused with herbs and spices.
Thanks to the comfort of air conditioning, the cafรฉ provides a relaxing ambience for casual dining.
Here's the location.
The Kacang Phool is eaten with dipping warm bread into it. To appeal to the varied tastes of diners, the set comes with cheese, garlic, French toast, garlic cheese or normal bread, with prices ranging from RM6 till RM9.
Ali Nasi Lemak is a grab-and-go stall in Penang selling sambal-capped rice, featuring an array of six variations, all priced at RM2.50 each.
If you love spicy nasi lemak, definitely check this place out. It was cool watching the kakaks prepare these sambal-capped pyramids of goodness.
Nasi Lemak Bungkus is a classic Malaysian breakfast, and at Ali Nasi Lemak Daun Pisang you can find a really good Nasi Lemak Bungkus to satisfy your nasi lemak cravings
This nasi kandar place in Penang (295-A Jalan Burma) came up in conversation tonight with some folks from KL, so I stopped in to give it a shot. Despite what seems to be a mess above, my selections of mutton, fried egg, and chili pepper on rice above were deliciously greasy, making it a nice way to close the day with some salty carbs.
Restoran Mohamed Raffee Nasi Kandar is an iconic culinary gem nestled within the heart of the city. With a rich history spanning over six decades, this family-owned establishment has become a cherished institution among locals and tourists alike. Since its inception, it has been handed down through three generations, preserving the essence of time-honored recipes and maintaining the spirit of warm hospitality.
Raffee nasi kandar stall has been operating since 1959. And people are going crazy over its nasi kandar.
we recommend getting the curry fish, ayam masak kicap and fried onions!
Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang has adapted a new concept - Eat All You Can for their Sunday Penang Delight to replace the conventional buffet serving, which is a casualty due to the ravaging of pandemic Covid-19. The restaurant is filled up with extensive spread of local delight and international cuisine, and you can eat as much as you can for RM 39 nett (adult), RM 35 nett (senior citizen - 60 years old and above) and RM 15 nett (children - 6 to 12 years old).
The highlight of the night is the Roasted US Tom Turkey and Turkey Meat Loaf, which are served with Giblet sauce, rosemary sauce and cranberry sauce. The combination of the appetizing cranberry sauce and the savory giblet sauce really makes the turkey a complex but delicious dish.
The must have for the night definitely is the Roasted U.S. Tom Turkey and Turkey Meat Loaf, which is served along with choice of Giblet sauce, Rosemary sauce and Cranberry Sauce. The big chicken is roasted perfectly, having tender and moist texture.
Though the selections are vast but most people could not run away from picking the regular dishes such as fried chicken, ayam ros, telur bawang, kambing kurma or beef. Then request for a kuah banjir and the server will skillfully mix the rice with different types of curry that yield an amazing aroma.
Roti Canai in Penang is served a little different than the ones we're used to back in Kuala Lumpur, Penang's roti canai is served with curry and meat, and usually drenched (banjir) with curry automatically by the stall. If you're looking for a breakfast spot when you come to George Town Penang, definitely try out Roti Canai at Jalan Argyll!
Locals flocked in Idrus Ikan Bakar for a few simple yet firm reasons. The food is fresh and good yet affordable, and Uncle Idrus formulated his own secret recipe to create one of a kind gastronomy experience here. For instance, Ikan Bakar Siakap (Seabass Grilled Fish) generally cost about RM 35, depending on market rate and Shell Out Seafood Platter that feeds up to 3 person is RM 75.
Nasi Kandar Merlin is one of the famous Nasi Kandar Shops in Penang. Serving delicious and yummy nasi kandar for 55 years this shop is still famous and well known. The must-order dishes here are curry chicken, curry beef, and curry prawn. Their curry is packed with spices and aroma, thick and flavorful. For those that take beef, the curry beef is not to be missed.
One of the best sellers- Mee Udang Mama Ya comes in a big portion with 3 Prawns. The sauce has a rich and thick consistency... slightly thicker than the usual ones and registered bold flavors. It has a mild spiciness to it and the overall flavor combo was good. The Prawns were fresh and the seasoning was spot on, just exactly what I was expecting for a bowl of decent Mee Udang.
A couple based in Penang that writes about food in Penang and many other places in Malaysia. We also write about our travel experiences.
A plate of Nasi Kandar with chicken or fish, rice, egg, and veggie usually will be charged RM10 or more. However, the same dishes that were ordered at Nasi Kandar Jaffar, Tanjung Bungah only cost RM7.50 which is the most affordable in Penang. Not just the price is affordable, but even the dishes are delicious. Especially the fried chicken that is so tender inside and crispy outside. The mixed gravies are also very flavourful.
Wahap is a classic stall at Jalan Dato Keramat that is selling Murtabak and also Roti Canai. This humble little stall is located just opposite Pos Office Dato Keramat. Serving delicious Murtabak and also special Roti Sarang Burung (Birdnest), the price of the dishes here is very reasonable. This place is a must to visit for those that love murtabak or roti canai.
Imagine the freshest seafood on a sizzling hot pan doused over a thick, spicy-sweet sauce and give it a quick stir fry; when served with a squeeze of Lime juice, you know there's a soft spot for the Malaysian in you. Since its opening in October 2016, Lan's Corner Ikan Bakar that sits on a little hill at Tanjung Bungah (right next to the post office and Sunshine Bay Seafood Restaurant) has garnered an appreciate following. It is known to dish out some of the best Ikan Bakar in the neighborhood. There are a few cooking methods to the local seafood-produce listed on the menu, depending on your preference but we'd recommend their 'bakar' style with home-made sweet-spicy sauce. Prices may not be cheap but certainly commensurate with the portion and quality (especially freshness). Plan your visit here early as long wait is expected after 7 pm (and limited parking space).
No matter how many times you have been to Tanjung Bungah, there's a deliciously hidden side to the beach front town; some are even unknown by the locals. Ardent fans of Mee Udang need not travel all the way to Teluk Kumbar or Sungai Dua to curb the craving. Warung Tok Mat Mee Udang is one of the secrets well-kept by the locals but the place is well-hidden from the bustling Jalan Tanjung Bungah. To reach there, one needs to travel a path less-traveled (refer to the bottom of this review for the directions); those who made their way there are those who are in the know. It is known to serve some of the freshest Mee Udang in the neighborhood- the restaurant sits by the beach side, offering spectacular beach view to its diners. The owner is related to a fisherman and it explains the source of supplies.
The star of the menu is the mee udang โ essentially a bowl of yellow noodles, scalded and cooked with large prawns in a lightly spicy sweet broth. The broth packs a punch, pushed by the freshness of the seafood, chili and tomato. Garnishing include fresh onions, deep-fried shallots and spring onions for a refreshing spin. Besides the popular choice of yellow mee, the prawns can be cooked with koew teow, bee hoon or maggie mee (instant noodles). This mee udang is always a big hit with diners but if prawn does not appeal to you, it can be replaced by crab.
