In Japan, there are more than 1038 types of wheats that can be used to make noodles. We use only the most premium domestic wheat to make our delicious noodles. This homemade premium grade noodles are smooth and yet chewy with a hint of the wheat’s aroma. Our noodles are produced under the strictest quality control in our store allowing us to present the best possible noodles to you. They are left to age and only boil when they are ready. We strongly recommend you try one or two plain noodles first (i.e. without any dippings), in order to distinguish our noodles with the others.

Decided to try out Toripaitan Shoyu Egg @ RM 17.40 with thin noodle. Order their regular style too. Quite like their shoyu base, as it is clear, mild spicy and quite fragrant. Egg I wish it is more flavourful then it would be perfect. Chicken meat is soft and juicy.

Tomo @ RM 30.90 – chasu pork belly, nori, soft boiled egg, wood ear fungus, scallion, bean sprouts. It is indeed a very interesting soup base. Love the thick soup base that punch with light soy, miso and pork bone soup after taste. Both are well balance and did not overpower each other. Sounds weird but taste awesome – recommended for first time order

There are several lunch set options, but the star of the show is the Bari-Uma: Ramen in pork flavoured shoyu soup with thick-cut flamed chashu. The set (RM29.90) comes with edamame, two pieces of pan-fried chicken gyoza and green tea. The soup is made from herbs, pork bones, chicken feet, high quality soy sauce and other ingredients, boiled for over 10 hours to extract maximum flavour. The result is a super rich, creamy and thick broth, which diners will slurp to the last drop. The ramen is fresh and springy as well, with just the right amount of al dente bite, and the thick cut chasu had a smokey, slightly charred taste, with a good balance between the lean and fat.

Being one of the legendary Japanese ramen establishments well-known worldwide, Ippudo certainly doesn’t go famous for no reason. Thick, cloudy white, flavourful signature tonkotsu broth immersed with thin, springy ramen, topped with beautifully done egg with runny egg yolk and delicious meat slices – a gracious bowl of Ippudo ramen always brings satisfaction in every slurp.

I suggested to my co-workers that we eat lunch at Tokyo Ramen, Atria. I ordered the mini Dragon Set at MYR18++ (10% service charge and 6% GST - MYR21 nett). The set consists of 3 gyoza, a small bowl of Ramen and a small bowl of rice. The broth was still as tasty as my previous visit almost a year ago.

We ordered a Hokkaido King Tonkotsu ramen set at MYR32.90++ which is MYR38.36 nett after adding in 10% service charge and 6% GST. This set consists of a bowl of King Tonkotsu Ramen, a cup of green tea and a plate of 3 gyoza. There are only 3 slices of pork with a wide rim of fat and skin which we did not eat. We prefer the Ramen from Ramen Bankara to this ramen.

Verdict: Please be reminded that Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do doesn’t take reservation, hence you only can walk in and have to expect a queue on weekends. Service was decent despite being busy and over all, our dinner was fairly good except for a few misses in between. Revisit? In between yes or no, I would say 😛 So drop by if you have chance and let me know your verdict!

Overall, ramen is good, but not as mind-blowing as said by many. We do love the ambience (that Japanese feel that makes us miss Japan more) and friendly service. Staffs are really attentive, checking with us if everything is ok from time to time despite being busy. Will we come back again? Yes. And FYI, HEJAU, a matcha specialist is now opened at Gasket Alley too. Get your matcha latte & matcha sweet treat craving fixed after slurpy bowl of ramen.

So, verdict? Some find this ramen place not nice at all, some find this place overrated, not worth the time for it. But then again, taste is pretty subjective according to individuals and everyone has their own preference. I will revisit again to build my own perfect combination but maybe not when the queue is still this long. I like the tonkotsu here and I find this a lot creamier, rich and nicer than the very famous one in Jaya One (which I found that one overrated).
