The Char Siew Rice is one of the choice from the daily set menu. Priced at RM 13.80, it is a real bargain considering the amount of char siew that we get. The rice was slightly mushy for our liking, especially when it was stirred with the onsen egg. Char siew was cooked to nice texture and the taste was averagely ok. Overall a great choice if you are looking something to fill your stomach.

Here comes the champion! Soft, warm brownies topped with homemade salted duck egg ice-cream, caramelized bananas and drizzled with caramel sauce. At first I thought the ice-cream would taste funny but it was THE BOMB! They serve set lunch ranges from RM14.50 to RM20.90, inclusive of soup of the day, main course and beverage. Absolutely worth it!

Here comes their signature ice cream for dessert! Salted duck egg ice cream. Yes, you saw that correctly - it is salted egg ice cream with actual salted duck egg bits! Ice cream is special indeed but I doubt it would not be everyone's preference especially when one is expecting the taste of a real sweet dessert.

The unusual Duck Lover Platter of Trio offers the duck chowder with bread stick, smoked duck on toast with tomato cilantro salsa and a Thai-style duck roll. Served with pieces of duck meat and button mushroom, the chowder boiled with vegetables was creamy enough. This appetizer with a wonderful interplay of flavors and textures is well worth a try.

Overall, burger was nice but on a personal preference level, we would hoped for presence of onions and more shredded vegetables being added. One more thing we could not understand is the absence of egg. Bearing a premium price of RM 6.50 (normal chicken burger) yet egg was absence, this is something we could not understand.

I guess for the past 4 months, anything related to cheese is a crazy big hype. It is the same as when I was at Penang past 2 weeks and decided to make a visit to this new crazy hype or we all known as our classic street burger or ramlee burger in Penang is now evolve to another level. Street Grill, Burger Bakar that is located at Sungai Pinang, Penang is a classic burger bakar version that is infuse with chese! Only operating for about 2 months and the hype is over the roof.

ÉNFD is an abbreviation of 'Énfold'- pronounced as 'unfold' with a meaning of 'gather and envelop' people through good food. It runs like a private kitchen, though walk-ins are welcome, the dining space is limited and could only host no more than 15 diners at a time. The dining hall preserves the sense of heritage with minimal interior decor; probably meant to encourage and enhance camaraderie amongst diners. It is a space that one could really talk and engage with each other. On the menu, the list of magical offering is unique and creatively crafted by the team behind ÉNFD; with focus on using Herbs and Spices ('local flavors') to intermingle with international flavors. The conservatives will find the menu too playful and to me, this is the attitude in lacking especially in the culinary scene in Penang. The brunch menu is only available on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 am to 3 pm.

If you still prefer the presence of rice in your main meals, then Farmer's Favourite (RM 17) is a worthy consideration. It is served using brown rice, and the chef has done a tremendous great work on the grilled chicken breast as the texture was moist and tender, contrary to the expectations we had. The sprinkles of parsley and paprika spices also further elevate the taste of entire plate of dish.

Just Moist is a dish dedicated for meat lovers, particularly steak lovers. The dish consists of a perfectly seared Rib Eye, served over a bed of mashed Sweet Potatoes, sauteed Shitake Mushrooms, blanched Broccoli and Cherry Tomatoes. The Steak was perfectly cooked... tender to the bite and carefully seasoned to the dot. Our only complain was the measly serving portion (can't help with a mere Rm 25)

Modernist cuisine or Molecular Gastronomy might not be new to the world but it's definitely something to range over, particularly for Penangites. Innovation is a critical element when it comes to a modernist kitchen- not only that the Chef must change the customary way one would prepare and present the dish but the Chef must bring a change to how diners experience the food either. Adventurous eaters can make their way to the small alley at Nagore Square (where all the bars and small little shops located); A.Maze occupies a strategic corner right next to the vacant land; from outside, the restaurant suggests a nary of information on what it is about to serve, inside... there are only 8 seats arranged snugly facing a small kitchen manned by the Chef-Owner Chef Wei. The very young and talented Chef honed his culinary skills from overseas and had had working experience in Michelin-starred restaurants. A.Maze serves "Omakase" which literally means "leave it to the Chef", the menu is not informed to diners and it relies entirely on "trust" but Chef Wei is not a one-trick pony- diners' sense of taste is not the only thing that changes here... the "Omakse" menu switches once a month and it depends on the seasonal offering. Thanks to Chef Wei, we had the opportunity to join him in his extraordinary gastronomical journey.

The newly opened Sous Vide Urban Cafe at New World Park is probably one of the cafes with most shareholders, it uses the concept crowdfunding and provides a community space for its guests/ members to mingle/ dine-in. There are small function rooms available to host meetings or gatherings either. The name- Sous Vide sure rings a bell, while most items on the menu are Sous Vide related; not all dishes are cooked using that method. Chicken is easily one of the most common dishes in most restaurants but good chicken leaves deep impression to diners, especially when it hits all the right notes. Chicken lovers would be glad to be introduced to Ember Roast, a new wood-fire Roast Chicken specialist in town. It's inappropriate to call them rotisserie as they technically... only roast Chicken and Fish. The menu is small but dedicated entirely to roast meat with a few desserts; price points are middle-average but expect long-waiting hours due to the cooking process. It's wiser to call for reservation or to place your orders in advance to shorten the waiting time.

Silver Spoon knows their Pesto Sauce well, the flavors were amazing; the herbaceous element was there, complemented with rich, cream-based sauce. A pity that the Spaghetti was over-cooked though we enjoyed the sauce a lot. It's hard to find Rib Eye Steak that costs below Rm 50 in Penang but as expected, the cut was a lackluster. Though the Red Wine sauce was beautifully done, the texture of the meat was somewhat disappointing. The meat was rough and the bite was less-satisfying. The Rib Eye Steak was served with a side of Potato Au Gratin and some greens. All in all, we have no complaints given the promotional rates but for usual rates, we thought they could do better.

The smoked Chicken was fork-tender, little effort was necessary to tear the meat apart. The skin registered bold smokiness but the inner meat barely registered any flavor. We had to rely on its sweet barbecue sauce, which the combination went perfectly well with the Garlic Butter Rice.

One of the signature dishes by Tree Ring Cafe is its Pulled Pork series. The Cauliflower rice is designed for those who are on KETO diet... the Cauliflower was first steamed and mashed to small pieces and served with Pulled Pork. The meat was fork-tender and it felt like being braised for quite some time, the dish somehow reminded us of the Bangkok Pork Leg rice (without the presence of Chili sauce).
