Alice's Gourmet Center used to sell economic rice at the Batu Lanchang food court. She has been cooking with passion for over 44 years. Although Aunty Alice is very senior she still loves to cook and instead of retiring, she turns to cook a simpler meal which is nasi lemak. The style of nasi lemak sold by Aunty Alice is a nostalgic Nyonya version. The Nyonya sambal is packed with turmeric and rich coconut milk flavor making the nasi lemak aromatic and enhanced. The caramelized anchovies with peanuts, turmeric chicken, and asam prawns are the dishes that are not to be missed at this place. This is the place to be urgently before Aunty Alice retired.
We had Five Stars' Curry Fish Head to go with rice and their rendition skewed towards the sweeter side. The Curry fragrance and flavor were there though and the fish was fresh but just a little, oddly sweet. The consistency was good though, perfect to spoon over rice
The sea bass was fresh, and paired well with the tikki masala sauce that yields a mixture of tangy and spicy sensation. If you did prefer a milder sauce, other options such as avocado and mint yoghurt is available too.
Peri-Peri Chicken (RM 18.80) immediately caught our attention. It is not that type of fiery and hot peri-peri sauce, but more a mild spicy sauce that drenched over a nicely roasted chicken with tender meat. The sauce blends well with the chicken and elevated its taste. Served with a baked corn and some fries, this set provides a balance of nutritional needs in terms of carbohydrate, protein and fat.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio – RM15.80 Vege, RM20.80 Seafood. Spaghetti sauteed with olive oil, chili flakes, olives, broccoli, squids and lots of garlic. There is a choice of either vegetarian or seafood for different tastebad. To me the simplest dish is the most challenging dish. This is because everyone knows how to cook it and the taste can easily be compared. Therefore, to determine a good cook, I usually will order Aglio Olio. At Papilicious Olivia’s Pasta & Pizza, the aglio olio tasted exciting and spicy. It had the right balance of saltiness, spiciness and garlic taste. I would definitely go back for this again.
Olivia's Cajun Seafood Pasta did not disappoint. The cream-based sauce was multi-dimensional and carefully seasoned on the dot. It carried a hint of spiciness and backed by a handful of Pepper, Seafood was great but we thought the Fettuccine could be more al-dente
Food here at Five Stars Restaurant is simple but tasty.
