Waroeng Penyet recently launched the Indomie Ayam Penyet @ RM12.90, which consists of crispy ayam penyet, fried tofu, tempeh and fresh local vegetables. Their ayam penyet is marinated with 9 types of Java spices and then deep fried. Taste wise, the ayam penyet had a spicy aroma in the chicken skin. It was meaty and tender, surprisingly paired well with the slightly heated Indomie noodles.
Lele Penyet/ Flattened Fried Catfish (RM7.90) Another recommended dish from Warong Penyet Penyets section. Deep fried to perfection, the fish is crispy outside with soft, fleshy fish filling. Again, the spicy sambal continued to whip up our appetite, we screamed for spiciness after every dipping but the spiciness was so good and addictive, too hard to resist. Served along with deep fried taufu and tempe.
The flatten fried prawn which was being served is pretty delicious too where the prawns are fresh and it was being prepared with the Javanese spices with it. The munch of the fried prawn was as good as it is and the dishes just tantalizing my tastebuds on it. Price: RM 10.90
We reckon that the ayam penyet is a must try item over here. It would be a good change from KFC fried chicken as well, considering that they charge about the same price.
Ambiance: 5/10 Price: 5/10 Food: 5.5/10 Verdict: Average tasting, tiny portions and quite expensive. Not something you would “wow” over.
Ayam Penyet (RM7.90) Their signature dish is their Ayam Penyet, or Indonesian style Flattened Fried Chicken. Supposedly flattened to tenderize the meat. Unlike the usual ayam goreng from Nasi Kandar stalls, or Malay style fried chicken, the one served here is marinated with some special sauce, before deep-frying, and served with crunchy batter. Expected the meat to be dry, but luckily it wasn’t. The sambal is fiery, but you can request for milder version if desired.
Let’s be honest, although food choices at The Curve is vast and tempting, they are freaking expensive. So, I really welcome Waroeng Penyet for their nice and affordable food. Many celebrities like Peterpan and Samsons, the famous Indoesian bands have visited Waroeng Penyet too. And you could see their happy faces on posters in the restaurant lol.
The chicken were absolutely stunning. Crispy on the outside and still juicy on the inside. The sambal was very flavorful, with the taste of fresh chili and a slight tangy sensation, it compliments all sorts of meat nicely. The prawn and pomphret were equally good as well. The soup though, it something I wouldn’t order again, it was a bit weird to me with the slightly sourly taste that is everything wrong between tomyam and chicken soup. I guess it might be an acquired taste… but perhaps not for me. These dishes were served with rice, so you do get a proper traditional meal in a modern setting.
