Verdict: With quite a high expectation to Grub and my dining experience was nothing less than spectacular. With such an affordable price tag, I have totally no complaint on the quality of the steak that I’ve tried (my dining companion had the Wagyu Rumpsteak Picanha and she loves it too).

This is perfect as the wagyu Ribyeye (marble 5) @ RM 145 is perfect with their unique side of potato salad and Jambu Ulam., mild fatty to my liking, with their house special sauce.

Second time here, nowadays always have to book ahead with deposit. This time the food is less satisfying than the last visit: the quail seems less marinated and less crispy, chicken meat a bit bland though the stock is nice, and seafood fish is quite nice. House wine at RM55 for 250ml is pretty good. Next time should try the beef steak.

I like dipping the sourdough into the stock, irresistible.

I found this place very unique, where the food served is like a 5-star restaurant but with more affordable pricing and without the 5-star environment. So, you should come here just for the food.

Fried French Quail is quite superb.
Lamb and Clams with Ramen and Bread is unconventional but the broth with bread is really out of this world.
Smoke duck is okay, quite big and fat.
We enjoy the pomme puree mash (fancy name for mash potato).
Hummingbird Cake is nice too.

I believed the food is really nice with good value for money.

Grub by Ahong & Friends @ Section 17 PJ - Comfort Food For My Soul.

Just last weekend, I visited the newly opened Grub for dinner, located at the slightly quieter side of Section 17, and right opposite Tujoh Cafe.

Grub by Ahong & Friends, serves classic Western dishes with a local twist, and also what I thought to be comfort food for my soul.

This was easily one of the most enjoyable meal I've had in awhile, with each dish having it's own story to tell. The dishes were plated beautifully, alongside simple tastes and textures which complimented each other. Plus, dining here was no-frills, no-fuss, though a little confusing in the beginning, but I got the hang of self-servicing after awhile.

Char Kuey Teow Burger: Grub by AHong, PJ

Known for his dry wit, Ahong possessed an audacious personality and belief in food that I find refreshing in this day and age. In character, he can be loud with no farks given and he does says as he pleases. Food-wise he clearly favours honest, unpretentious food. But honest and unpretentious can mean hawker food slapped on a plate but for Ahong he went a mile forward by serving quality ingredients prepared with skill which are nicely presented yet priced at quite an unbeatable value. Judging from the crowd at Grub on a weekday night, he had amassed a following that clearly appreciates his efforts.
