Does Ippudo have the best ramen I’ve tasted? No. I think that still goes to Menya Shishido for me (although I can’t say it tastes the same now, since they moved somewhere new and I haven’t been to the new place yet). But it certainly is one of the top ones on my list, and worth a little splurging at RM37 per bowl. The only con I can think of: because the outlet has such high traffic, you do feel a little harried to finish up your food ASAP to make way for other diners – they cleared my bowl almost immediately after I finished up my soup, and I felt compelled to gulp down my green tea because customers waiting outside were staring at me balefully like VACATE YOUR DAMN SEAT 😛

Asides the Kuro Shoyi Ramen are served with the light and flavourful chicken shoyu broth with the dark soy sauce with it. It is topped with the assorted vegetables, grilled pork belly, bamboo shoots and the onsen tamago with it. Deliciously done!

Our first order is the award-winning Shiromaru Special Ramen (特制白丸) RM33.90 – IPPUDO’s original Tonkotsu broth served with ultra-thin noodles, salted soft boiled egg, pork loin, and pork belly, bean sprouts, kikurage, spring onions, and seaweed. The Shiromaru broth is robustly packed with pork bone & garlic flavor (very thick yet smooth texture, tastes delicious and simply addictive), while ultra-thin handmade noodles in the bowl are pretty much al-dente which comes with a hint of wheat fragrance, chashu slice is well balanced and is cooked to perfection – Overall is like running a ramen orchestra in your mouth (with all sorts of well-tuned taste and texture), not hard to understand why it’s being crowned as the “Ramen King”! 😉

Mum had the 'Shiromaru Special' which niece opted for the 'Spicy Fried Rice'. I ordered a serving of 'Hakata Chashu Rice' for Nicholas and he enjoyed it. Nope, he only had half of it. We packed the balance for his dinner later. I usually will go for 'Akamaru' ramen, but this time I think I would like to check out something different. Hence I went for the 'Ippudo Kuro Special'. The soup was so flavourful. I also requested for the 'hard noodles' as I love the chewiness in the ramen😍🍜.
