Trusmadi is famous for its pitcher plants of unique shape, and you get a nice view of Mt Kinabalu.
We started hiking up from our base camp around 1am and it took 4 hours to reach the peak. The night sky is clear with plenty of sparkling stars. It gets pretty cold at the peak even though there is not much wind. We are lucky to see the sun rise with clear sky. There is a tower at the peak to give you 360 unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains.
Trusmadi is quite a journey from Kota Kinabalu. It took 2 hours to Keningau, then another 2 hours by 4 wheel to reach the base camp. There are three routes, we took the Mastan Trail (Apin-Apin Keningau).

Climbing Mt Trusmadi, the Alternative to Mt KinabaluThe last 300m to the summit was super duper muddy! But it was also because it was raining the day before. The views were actually nicer at the viewing tower where it was higher than the summit. But apparently the official board of Mt Trusmadi was fixed here first and hence they continued to use this as the summit.
