The unique charm of Malacca lies in being a town filled with historical sites. Here are some of the best cafes in Malacca that you may want to visit.
I made a trip to Melaka in early October with my mom, elder sister, brother in law, Jovyn and Alex and this time round, I literally took a backseat in planning since my elder sister and brother in law visit the UNESCO city much more often than I do!
That's frustrating for someone who loves his crabs and I decided to make a trip down to the UNESCO Malaysian city, with the primary objective of checking out this particular restaurant that my sister, and brother in law, had been raving about; Restoran Tong Sheng!
By myself, I admit that I will do some research before stepping into a new dining establishment when I am overseas. In this case, at Melaka, I just followed wherever my sister and brother in law brought me to since they have been to the Malaysian UNESCO city countless times!
It's a clear objective; breakfast at Nyonya Secrets in Melaka. But, I mistook the opening hour and we were about an hour early! Never one to give up, our eyes veered over to across the road.
Overall, the food taste here is more to the local Malaccans. The ingredients used are fresh and I don’t mind coming back to their glass noodles one day. This is Xin Ann Kopitiam Melaka.
The dog cafe I visited at Melaka was six kilometers away from our hotel and me being me; I searched around the area for food so that I technically wouldn't waste the trip.
To be frank, it was more coconut milk than the gula melaka that made up the overall taste. I would have prefer more gula melaka given we were in its place of origin! Nevertheless, I do enjoy the green stuff which had an appetizing saltiness complementing its alkaline flavor, and the crunchy beans.
While I do enjoy the popiah, I admit it was a tad sweet, and given the size, I wouldn't be surprised customers might treat it like a meal! My elder sister commented that the stall was much more generous with the crispy pork lard in the past and at RM 6.00 now, inflation had indeed hit hard.
I was still sober after that small glass of 38% alcohol rose wine at Sin Hiap Hin and with a bit of time to spare before my appointment with the huskies; we decided to walk over to the nearby Tofu Street Fresh Soya Bean!
Nevertheless, still a unique experience I would recommend to travellers on a visit to Melaka. It's okay if you are bringing kids as I brought my 12 year-old niece along. p.s. Of course there's no alcohol for her!
