The individual components were OK, including the chashu bacon and cheese cracker. But it was all very forced, including that tomato broth. I won't get it again.
If you compare this photo to the one from last week, there are a few notable differences aside from the noodle selection.
The River Valley outlet of 119 Fish Soup didn't last very long, and it's a pity since they really were one of the better ones around with their super fresh fish. In its place now is this prawn noodle shop, whose menu oddly emphasized more terrestrial choices over shellfish.
IPPUDO Singapore has taken its "Tsukemen Japan" special and jazzed it up with a mala version above.
Ippudo had this on its menu today, featuring a thick blend of squid ink, miso, and spices to form this dark-looking bowl. It basically tasted like Japanese curry; to be honest, I wouldn't have even known that there was squid ink in there if I hadn't seen it. But it definitely gave it a distinct appearance. They provided a bib given the splatter risk.
I normally don't eat claypot rice very much, but I suspect that I'm going to be eating more now.

The gravy was quite shiok, spicy and nicely but not overly lemak, and fragrant and savoury from the hae bi. The bee hoon was springy, the tau pok soaked up the gravy nicely, and the meatballs were a nice touch.
