Thanks to Tourism Malaysia and MOTAC Perak, I was once again in Taiping, indulging in its serene heritage trails and the laid back peaceful nature of the town… It is just no wonder this town has been said to be the most age – friendly town in the whole of Malaysia…
Taiping (太平) is second largest town in Perak.
Larut Matang Hawker Center is a place that is packed with good food in Taiping, Perak. Located at the center of the town area this hawker center is the place that must drop by for every visitor. One of the stalls, Stall No 78 has been operated for 60 years and passed down for the 3rd generation. The fried fish ball koay teow. This is the food that is only available in Perak. Besides the above-mentioned dish, the oyster omelet, seafood koay teow soup, and ice mountain are also must-try food and dessert.
If you’re in Taiping, do take time out to visit the lake and attached park. Situated on the site of a former tin mine, it was established in the 1880s, and was apparently the first public garden in what is now Malaysia.
Overall, there’s probably not much wrong with the Flemington that a refurbishment and some cleaning checklists couldn’t fix, and it was great to be able to walk straight out to the lake in the morning. However, I don’t think we’re likely to head back, honestly.
Anyway, if you want vegetarian food in Taiping, this is a good option, with plenty of reasons to pick it, and not really anything negative. No time to explore further this visit, so nothing to compare with; probably in future.
We came specially for this dish. Yam and fish in a clay pot. There were chunky pieces of fish inside the yam gravy
The fried mee was decent too, but if you only have space for one dish here at Yut Sun, make it the Hainanese chicken chop.
