Penang is famous for its Peranakan culture, particularly the well-known Baba Nyonya community. Established in 1933 as a kuih-specializing factory, Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Koay expanded to include a storefront in 2016, showcasing a remarkable commitment to Nyonya kueh.
Moh Teng Pheow Nyonya Kuih has earned the prestigious Bib Gourmand status in the 2023 Michelin Guide KL and Penang list.
Moh Teng Pheow Nonya Koay was where we headed for our fix of Nonya Kuehs. Having visited Jason’s Nonya House and still craving for Nonya fare, we found Moh Teng Pheow Nonya Koay a popular venue for koahs such as Kueh Lapis, Kueh Talam and Kueh Bengka.
The chunks of tender lamb with notes of herbs are complemented by a big plate of fragrant white rice and a salad of tomato, lemon, and gherkins. A spoon of the sauce with the rice is just heavenly.
Here's the location.
Halab Penang is probably one of the places where you can take someone for an amazing dining experience.
The Bacon and Egg Bagel is a beautiful art to look at, with the runny egg yolks surrounded by stripes of bacon, just like the flower petal opened up to unveil its stems. Saltiness from the bacon yields as a natural seasoning for the egg, making a perfect combination that will definitely tantalize your taste buds.
Bacon & Egg RM 12 不得不说,这是我在马来西亚吃过最好吃的Bagel ! 选择的内陷是培根加入口即化的荷包蛋,配上外皮酥脆的贝果 一口咬下去有嚼劲,十分满足!
Apart from bagels, they also provide their handmade yogurt with toppings that you hardly find outside the cafe, we have walnuts and raisins. Our choice of yogurt did not come with honey/gula Melaka that can complements the tartness of the yogurt, it's quite sour every bites we had, that's why we must eat the yogurt together with walnuts or raisins to neutralize it.
Personally, salted caramel and Redwine Cranberry are our favorites, particularly Redwine Cranberry as this flavour is one of the unique type of ice cream we have sampled.
Penang Chulia Street隐藏一家不起眼的小店;没想到这里有售卖超好吃的Homemade雪糕啊!
The Ais has more than 40 different ice cream flavors in its recipe book.
Okay, so I had a much nicer time at Junk Cafe this time around. I would consider returning the next time I’m in Penang, maybe even trying their food, but only if the patio is free. I dislike the vibe inside – in such a sunny place like George Town, why sit in a dank room? The prices are also too expensive to be a regular drinking spot, so for me, it would have to be a “once per trip” sort of place.
Enjoyed a good late afternoon here at Junk Cafe.
Meanwhile, Full of Junk burger comes with a juicy and succulent beef patty and served along lettuce, tomato, sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions and tasty cheese. We thought the patty saltiness level could be tuned down for a more enjoyable eating experience, as every components of the burger worked decently except for the over seasoned patty.
Pinwheel is a nice cafe along Chulia Street that serve western food. They have many different types of western food that range from Pasta, Pizzas, Snacks, Soup and more. They added a little twist of Asian touch to it where you can find food like Tomyam, Rendang and more, making it interesting for your taste buds to explore.
The Chicken Rendang Spaghetti is one good example. We found the Rendang flavor was spot on with strong presence of spices and the Pasta was expertly cooked but a pity that the Chicken was overcooked. Not only that it was overcooked with a rubbery texture, the Chicken pieces were cooked in the Rendang sauce... merely fried version, which we thought it was slightly off the Rendang theme
And if you’re just looking for something light and non-spicy, the Fish Head Noodle RM12.90 is a dish you would go for. Many loves eating this bowl of noodle served in a milky fish broth with pieces of fish head, ginger, and aromatic garnishing. On a final note, you can have the dish loaded with extra ingredients like fish fillet, big white prawn, and pork slices.
At the same time, the service crew also recommended us to try BBQ Platter (RM 22.90). We agreed the skewers were nicely seasoned and have good smoky flavour, but it was a tad salty to be indulged in.
The Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee was delicious, a pretty standard Hokkien Mee that had all the boxes ticked; the broth was multi-dimensional with a hint of seafood sweetness. Diners have the option to opt for add ons.
Checking out Goh Thew Chik Hainan Chicken Rice 伍秀澤正宗海南雞飯 which is recognized with a Michelin bib gourmand. They have been around for more than 12 years or could have been more. Their exact year of operations wasn't stated anywhere. It was a busy afternoon and it was hard to get a table.
I find this one here not too bad, chicken is tender and somehow the sauce is likable (not too sweet nor salty), on the side served was their home-made chili sauce, nice!
Price in this bar is very decent and affordable where you can see A glass of Tiger Draught is only RM 10, Heineken and Guninness at RM 13
During our visit to Coffee Lane, we tried 3 different hand dripped coffee brewed using different beans. The barista patiently detailed to us on the taste profile for each of the beans, and did well to manage our expectations. If you are a coffee lover and keen to explore more about coffee, this is a place meant for you. The cozy environment is another plus point, making Coffee Lane an ideal location for a chit chat and rendezvous with friends.
One of its brunch items- the "Scrambled" features Avocado-spread Toast, Scrambled Egg, Chicken Ham, Wedges and Yogurt-Granola. The serving portion was much bigger than expected. The Toast was alright but it gets soggy after a while
Our favorite in the restaurant will be their Gulai Tumis Nga Wa Hoo (RM 28, small ; RM 52, medium; RM 130, big). It is a savoury dish with Threadfin cooked in a tamarind-flavoured curry with lady's fingers and spiced up with bunga kantan and curry leaves. Best eaten along with rice, otherwise the curry will turn out to be too overwhelming and strong in taste.
It is really nice dining in at US Pizza, Chulia Street, Penang. The environment is nice, food is good and service is good too. Preparing the Masala Pizza may take awhile but it is worth the wait.
The current famous burger is the volcano cheesy burger which is only available in the Chulia Street branch. The drizzling and cheesy topping with a touch of spiciness, ozzing, and gluing when the bite is so rich and packed with char grill flavor. This is something unique and happening in Penang.
US Pizza at Chulia Street, Penang is an awesome place to spend time with family and friend while enjoying their latest additions of Pizza and Burger. Head on over to US Pizza Chulia Street to try out their new menu ! Use promo code PIZZA6 to get FREE personal pizza with any purchase of RM 25.00.
Spicy Ikan Bilis RM15.00 This was absolutely spicy
Mr. Shawerma is a chain of Middle Eastern eateries in Penang.
This burger stall in Chulia Street is all Manchester United fans should at least give it a try.
A verty interesting place to have some fun at night in Georgetown, Penang.
The Stir Fried Squid on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise. The flavors were bold and amazing, the Squid was expertly cooked to the right doneness, it was a dish worth eating again.
除了手握寿司,他们也有售卖手卷寿司 (Hand Roll Sushi),日式三角饭团 (O-nigiri)和土耳其旋转烤肉 (Shawarma)
Its menu is entirely pork-free.
这间ladies bar让你享受到美好而安全的酒吧体验。
What’s better than a spot for ladies to have a glass or two together, great ambiance and of course, gorgeous bartender.
Classic porchetta RM16.90 For us, the Porchetta taste is perfect even without the condiments, though flirting the Porchetta with the different combination of condiments yield a different level of enjoyment. It is one of the best Porchetta we have enjoyed thus far, and will definitely worthy for a second visit.
We have a round of the Classic porchetta RM16.90 and Mamamia porchetta RM18.90. The latter has enough mixture of herbs and spices, allowing you to also enjoy the taste of the meat which is generously salted.
