Overall, we highly recommend the Assam laksa here, as it was our favourite bowl during this Penang trip. We enjoyed the well-balanced broth and flakiness of the mackerel bits.
Kim Laksa is one of the Laksa stalls that sells 2 types of Asam Laksa and Siam Laksa in Balik Pulau. Selling Laksa for more than 40 years this Kim Laksa is bringing the Penang's Flavour to the world. Besides that, the Vietnamese Food here is also very nice and authentic. The Banh Mi is so yummy and sells at a very affordable price. This goes the same as Vietnamese Chee Cheong Fun which is very appetizing and appealing.
This is lemak laksa, which contains coconut milk.
Not sure how we landed up here. This was recommended by our driver, and the seafood was indeed fresh and flavours punchy. It was a long drive out from Georgetown though.
Experience a bit of fishing village life and taste seafood straight off the boat for a fraction of Georgetown prices.
A famed fishing village at Southwest of Penang Island (approximately 15 km away from Balik Pulau market), Pulau Betong is home to many fishermen and is known to have some of the best sea produce in Penang. Jia Siang Cafe is one of the more prominent seafood restaurants in the vicinity; having operated for years, it has accumulated an appreciate following. But there is a catch here- you must either reach there early during the day (as soon as it opens) or you will have to buy the fresh sea produce behind the restaurant (for the Chefs to cook). The seafood supplies in the restaurant are rather limited and the demand is usually high, so if you wish to savor some of the best seafood, make your way there as early as possible. Located at the end of the road, Jia Siang Cafe is right next to the river mouth; not air-conditioned, the heat-intolerant might this place a little uncomfortable to dine-in, especially with the sultry hot tropical weather.

'Balik Kampung' is the top-hit search keyword for now. As the stalls of Ah Huat Pek and Ah Bird's Coffee Stall have moved in the front area of Balik Kampung had been packed. However, a lot of people still didn't know that behind this place there are not just food, but also activities that are very interesting and experiences that bring back nature and release from the bustle of stress.
Balik Kampung, Balik Pulau is one of the few places that currently offers Lei Cha. With plenty of veggie and 'cha' soup, this is a well-balanced diet dish. The Lei Cha here is not available daily, for exact availability date you may call or check out their Facebook page. Besides Lei Cha, they serve usual breakfast such as bread and nasi lemak.
Serving with a taste as great as previously, Ah Huat Pek and Ah Bird have moved to the new location which is now at Balik Kampung a few stones throw away. Balik Kampung is now served with good food and exciting activities. Besides the delightful Penang local food, Balik Kampung also provides a range of bicycles for those after a meal and looking for great sunset senary.
However, this round I am trying out other specialties which is the prawn fritters and also the soy sauce braised pork. These are the signature dishes here in Ah Hock Pek Stall as well.
Beside the deep fried hor fun, the char koay teow and the classic hor fun here also very irresistible and placed with char grill flavor. This is the place that you need to visit if you are looking for some unique food and a place that out of town.
Operating for more than 40 years, the Hokkien Mee of this stall is thick flavoring and classic. With generous amount of shrimps that give the slight savory taste blended well with the soup and the chili paste. It was a great thing that they still remain the consistency of the taste from the beginning.
The laksa there has been operating for over 50 years, currently priced at RM5 (S) and RM6 (B) and is one of the dishes that should not be missed when visiting the food court. Besides that the Pasembur here is also one of the attractions, priced at RM4.50 (S) and RM5.50 (B). The bouncy and flavourful saito fish balls of the Koay Teow Thng here has also become the highlight of the stall, priced at RM4.00 (S) RM4.50 (B)

Peter Boy Seafood, located in BP Views Kopitiam serving seafood and Asian-style cooking is one of the must-visit places at Balik Pulau for those that looking for delicious, unique, and reasonable dinners. Well known to the locals, this place is crowded with patrons even during weekdays. The dishes that must order here are the Braised Pork Trotter, Lemongrass Steam Fish, Sambal Kang Kong, and also Salted Egg France Bean. This is the place that I would be going back to again for its good food and wallet-friendly price.
2 Acres Cafe is the new and upcoming nature and countryside of new and trendy check-in spot with great photoshooting area. The food and drinks here are very healthy while there are a lot of nice food such as durian and coconut are available here.

Uncle Loo's Unforgettable Taste fired CKT and Tai Lok Mee is one of the countryside-style cooking that made this place unique from others. Uncle Loo has been frying Char Koay Teow for 60 years since he was 7 years old. Now he is back in Balik Pulau a small and quiet town to continue his hobby.
Azlan's Curry Stingray left us with a very deep impression. Unlike the much sought-after thick version, the Curry Stingray may seem watery but the flavors are not weak. The real draw is the silky smooth texture, little effort is required to slit the fish; a great dish to spoon over Rice. Feel like having more fish? Go for their Siakap served with Garlic, Ginger and Soy Sauce- deep fried Siakap topped with Garlic, Ginger and Soy Sauce with a dash of refreshing Lime Juice... crisp texture with powerful flavors; just as you thought it might be a little heavy on the palate, the acidity from the Lime cuts through the greasiness and opens up a refreshing dimension. Equally worth-savory dishes are the grilled Cat Fish and stir-fried Prawns.
One of the places that served unique Pan-Fried Hor Fun, Kafe 5126, Bukit Penara, Balik Pulau. The process of Pan-Fried Hor Fun really takes time and is not easy to prepare. This is something that you need to try if you haven’t.

Overall, this cafe exudes a comfortable and heartfelt ambiance for the patrons.
Fish is fresh and offers a lean and moist texture. It was a total indulgence with the curry and fish, at least for me
Kong Lean is a hidden gem coffee shop that located at Sungai Pinang, Balik Pulau. This decoration of the coffee shop is retro and very nostalgic serving with the duck egg kaya toast that is unique and also the soft-boiled egg that is rare to get around Penang. Besides the toast and soft-boiled egg, the homemade scone with lemon curd and butter is so appetizing and yummy too. Kedai Makana Heng Lee is also the shop a few doors away from Kong Lean Kedai Kopi that sells great Penang Street Food, the Hokkien Mee, Jawa Mee, and Wantan Mee here are recommended and up to standard as well.
Selling something special, the deep fried hor fun is one of the popular dishes around. Beside the deep fried hor fun, the char koay teow and the classic hor fun here also very irrisitable and placed with char grill flavor. This is the place that you need to visit if you are looking for some unique food and a place that out of town.
The way of Thai Style Oo Chien is different from Penang style, the texture of the omelette is not so starchy and oily while it is blended well with the oysters. The taste of the Oo Chien here is unique and so far in Penang there are not much Oo Chien in Thai Style available. For those that do not love to eat fried oysters omelette there is an option of fried shrimps omelette available too.
Located along the quaint streets of Jalan Baru Balik Pulau is a culinary treasure that has withstood the test of time - Laksa Pak Aaq. For more than five decades, this unassuming eatery has been a steadfast purveyor of classic and traditional Malay-style Laksa, preserving the rich flavors and cultural heritage of the region.
Handmade without an artificial bun 'bao' is a rare item in the market, moreover is only selling for RM1 per piece, this is made this stall unique. Ting's Cottage is located at Jalan Baru, Balik Pulau. Here, the owner insists on natural handmade without artificial, and yet the price is so afforda ble with RM1 for each plain bun while RM1.50 for stuffing. However, Ting's Cottage only operates once a week which is Sunday 7 am and the bun is fast selling.
