A food blog from a Singapore-based traveler
I'm not a shareholder if anyone was suspecting. I just like their food.
Spice Brasserie at PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road has reopened its doors and we are all ready for their Christmas buffet.
亚洲街头美食任点自助餐只在周末推出,星期六与星期日午餐,星期五至星期日晚餐,每人$58。
I always like the buffet offered by Spice Brasserie. Since now it is ala carte format, it is even better. Sit back, order and eat.
On the whole, the food is lighter than elsewhere, and are suitable for older folks. Parents and grandparents may appreciate it.
The dishes lean towards a mix of Sichuan and Cantonese fares at this branch, and it is one Chinese restaurant to check out in Farrer Park.
餐馆环境提升,菜单上也做出调整。
The service is good: the server recommended some dishes to us. But the decor seems cheap and there was a flickering florescent that needed to be changed, but they didn’t, creating a disco effect like when at home, for fun, you switch on and off the lights quickly. Food-wise, it is ordinary and average, a far cry from Chennai, but at least it is affordable.
It was awesome. That tawa meen at the bottom was a lightly spiced and breaded fish that was crunchy yet tender, while the mutton briyani was peppery, with just the right amount of spices.
The Gorgonzola variety used in their lasagna is the younger dolce variety - less sharp and creamier.
The one i ordered was Super Dario Extra which is beef with pecorino cheese, and it weighed at about 300g a potion! Noticing the collection of water on the bottom of the serving plate, i had a suspicion that the lasagne was microwaved, instead of baked.
Beef Noodle Soup was full or flavor, beef tender and juicy.
The food is good and the free food is even better, putting us in a good mood. We paid about $40 for two persons.
Hillman Restaurant is well worth a visit for their delicious zi char dishes. This was where Queen Elizabeth ate in 1965!
Haven't had mui fan in years. This one was nice. Reminded me of those that I used to have as a kid.
Considering its convenient location and commendable quality, we wouldn’t be surprised to see more outlets springing up across the island, with one set to open in Ang Mo Kio soon.
Overall, we felt that Ordinary Burgers is a great addition to the mall.
Wok Master at City Square seems to be a popular place judging by the lines I always see and we decided to try it one night. It has some decent dishes for value.
Not for the goldmine Set again, as it was an order of curiosity for me this time. It is not a good gauge of how good a restaurant is, hence I wouldn’t mind heading back to try its ala carte dishes.
泰金山经营的是泰式料理,在Harbourfront另有一个档口,售卖泰国街头美食。
The mee kia is delightfully springy with a nice crunch but the star is undoubtedly their umami chili sauce made with pork lard, dried chili, hae bee and buah keluak. It had this alluring fragrance yet not too spicy.
Oddly, the fish dumplings here are not like the regular kind I had. It does not have the translucent skin nor does it have that slimy coating. Even the texture feels somewhat coarse on my palate.
Most of the dishes stay true to the owner’s mother traditional recipes, and quality is key.
The lamb rack is fantastic too, marinated in a mint sauce to undercut the fats.
Seoul Jjimdak is our go-to Korean restaurant in Singapore for Budae Jjigae and authentic Chicken Jjjimdak.
Jjimdak is largely a sharing dish which originated from Andong, made with chicken and various vegetables marinated in a spicy Korean ganjang (soy sauce) based sauce.
Their menu had a number of northern Chinese items on it, including roujiamo, and the food court signage above it even calls it "China Cuisine."
If you’re looking for a compelling argument to give pig liver a try, there’s a hawker stall you need to visit—Jin Xi Lai (Mui Siong) Minced Meat Noodle.
Jin Xi Lai (Mui Siong) Minced Meat Noodle, situated in Yi He Eating House, boasts a BCM recipe that’s more than 50 years old!
I wouldn't say no to this comfort bowl of childhood favourite. They are opened daily 9.30am to 5pm but closed on Wednesday. I bet you will feel the same that the queue is worth waiting for!
Someone had warned me :“don’t bother to try the sungei road laksa as the portion is really small nowadays and standard isn’t as great as bef...
Hawker food with long history is hard to come by in Singapore. If you have not yet tried Sungei Road Laksa, it is worth the trip to Jalan Besar for a taste of how Laksa is prepared and served in the past. I left feeling very satisfied.
Before and After - fascinating that we managed to cleaned everything up! Although the atmosphere and environment weren't as nice and comfortable as Sum Dim Sum, the dim sum here were actually pretty good. Would be back again; hopefully with my parents to try other signature dim sum at Dim Sum Haus Sg !
Dim Sum Haus in Jalan Besar. Check out their Seasonal Menu!
The Japanese dumpling, is a twist to the usual spicy wantons. Nice and of a good sized but I prefer the original sauce for that spicy kick.
Overall, it is a decent experience. If you can't get a seat at Swee Choon Tum Sum, this is always a decent option. It opens daily and till late for Friday and Saturday.
No doubt that their dim sum was freshly made with traditional recipes, there are still many competitors out there for their dim sum which can be better and worth the money spent. The time we spent in the queue did not make justice to our meal here. Perhaps, it's best to make a reservation before heading down there.
This was a satisfying birthday lunch and no doubt I would be back again! Three items deserved a re-order and they shall be the Wolfberry with Mushroom Siew Mai, the Signature Hot & Spicy Dumplings and the Signature Pandan Crispy Pork Bun!
