Tong Kee Chicken Rice has moved to the new Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. Be prepared to queue for their popular roast chicken!
The roast pork and char siew are generally nothing to write home about.
I am rather disappointed with their rice. I am not sure if this is a one-off mishap or this is exactly how they want their rice to be? If so, then I am not too big a fan of it.
Even though Aw’s Signature Minced Pork Noodles is surrounded by a number of other food centres, I would still make a beeline for them when I’m in the area again.
Unfortunately during my visit, they are not selling the braised pork noodle. It is only available on Monday to Friday. I read that their braised pork is pretty good, hence I was looking forward to try it.
If you like varieties then Signature Noodle is a good choice as it consists of ingredients like prawns, quail egg, meatball, sliced abalone, fish maw, fish dumpling and mushrooms.
The bee hoon and other offerings are rather run-of-the-mill so you can skip these and head straight for the fried chicken wings which are the main highlight here.
An old school stall relocated from Tanglin Halt. The Lotus Seed Thick Soup had a bit of bite and was tender without being mushy, and had a slight fragrance and was not overly sweet. Subtle dessert.
Among the three desserts that I have tried that day, this is my favorite. The beans have a good bite and texture to it.
A food blog from a Singapore-based traveler
I have to say my trip to Tanglin Halt Food Centre was a double winner with Ayam Penyet from Warung O.M.C. and Kuih from Queenstown Lontong! If you’re popping by for your takeaway, the best time is in the afternoon before 3pm during this circuit breaker season.
For the price, this stall is pretty generous with its portion which makes for a comforting and filling meal to keep your day going.
The old school wanton noodles were slightly thicker, springy and wiry, with a very nice flavour and fragrance from the lardy sauce, mostly savoury and slightly sweet. The wantons were smooth but slight floury, and the char siew slightly sweet and tough. The noodles and sauce were the key attraction here.
This is easily one of my top few favorite wanton noodle. With young people shunning the hawker trade, I see light at the end of the tunnel for our hawker heritage!
the usual fare from HK street old chun kee, good and inexpensive.
If you’re still feeling curious about the food here, I’d say get the Mixed Grill to be safe.
Good Japanese flavour with the shoyu, unlike the miso which was more subtle and not so easily identified. The noodles were cooked well and springy, and all the various toppings – Japanese charshu, sliced pork, minced pork, pork balls, deep fried lard and mock abalone – were tender and fresh.
They seriously did everything very well, and with pride. Very nice.
Variety of food isn’t the most interesting and comprehensive, however, we think it does complement well with beer. And at such quiet environment, it is a fabulous choice to chillax with friends.
I did not manage to ask for the name of this young owner but I know that his name is not 黄大福, the name of this stall. I seated right in fro...
I thought this was a good cheeseburger this time round, moist and smoky, with the sourness of the pickles and the slightly tart sauce coming through. Satisfying.
Homegrown burger stall Hammee’s Burgers is back from their brief hiatus with new and improved tweaks to their yummy burgers! Read more.
Fried chicken had a nice crisp turmeric batter that sealed in the juices in the meat.
Margaret Drive Sin Kee Chicken Rice, one of the top chicken rice stalls from the Hawkers.
The rice was I thought the gold standard of chicken rice – moist, oily, flavourful and fragrant with chicken stock and oil, garlic, onions and lemongrass etc.
Sin Kee is a well-known name among chicken rice stalls in Singapore, mainly serving poached chicken rice Cantonese-style.
This place serves a lot of dishes (1 Fusionopolis Place #01-10, 6320-3477), but it got some attention online for its gukbab, especially given the frenzy around Um Yong Baek. Unfortunately, that set up the wrong expectation, as the broth wasn't as rich and savory, and the banchan here was unremarkable too. I still ate it all, and don't mind coming back if I'm nearby. But it's a far cry from Um Yong Baek.
Overall, Hoodadak does serve pocket-friendly lunch sets with generous portions and the flavours were decent enough. While I will not consider them my favourite Korean restaurant, it is nice to have a decent Korean restaurant around the office when I am craving Korean food
Visiting Fusionopolis on a weekday afternoon for lunch often means long queue at most eateries, and it didn’t escape my friends’ eyes that H...
Monki 台灣小吃部 was previously at Holland Village and they have relocated to The Star Vista. Perhaps due to the restrictions in travelling, the urge and the constant search for Taiwanese Food seem unstoppable.
Very complex, tasty, moist and generous braised meat, with a strong sweet flavour. 肥瘦参半的肉燥. Nice bowl.
While this place serves up a mean plate of lu rou fan, its portion would have me think twice about coming back for it. That being said, the snowflake desserts are worth trying.
So apparently this is a well-known stall from Holland Close, but I had never heard of them until I came across a pop-up of theirs next to Marina Bay Sands today.
If Holland Close is out of the way for you, their e-commerce stall is still up and running, with exclusive dishes such as Original Tom Yum Collagen Soup for you to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
really good! hum fresh sweet & very clean.
Exploring the West today! Hong Kee Porridge 鸿记粥, nestled within the charming Commonwealth Crescent Market and Food Centre, boasts over 50 years of serving up heartwarming bowls of porridge to generations of satisfied customers.
Hong Kee Porridge is a good reminiscent of home-cooked porridge that brings back the old taste.
I enjoyed that homely taste, it is a good choice for breakfast or a light lunch.
Yes we ventured to Colbar today for lunch with our mates The Rusiecki’s.
I cannot believe that it has been a full seven years since we last visited Colbar. I searched iPhoto and the last I col find was when our BFF Gordy left us to
If we come back, then we need to remember to stick to the curry, which was probably the best thing that we had today. No wait, actually the best thing that we had today were the chips that accompanied the aforementioned steak.
Overall, I highly recommend this stall if you crave affordable and delicious humble Malay dishes like the Mee rebus, lontong and even Nasi Lemak
Monster Curry serves Japanese style curry rice meals in humongous 41-cm plates, featuring its signature “demi-glace” curry sauce, perhaps the only one of its kind in Singapore.
The chicken wing costs only a dollar!
