An old school stall relocated from Tanglin Halt. The Lotus Seed Thick Soup had a bit of bite and was tender without being mushy, and had a slight fragrance and was not overly sweet. Subtle dessert.
The old school wanton noodles were slightly thicker, springy and wiry, with a very nice flavour and fragrance from the lardy sauce, mostly savoury and slightly sweet. The wantons were smooth but slight floury, and the char siew slightly sweet and tough. The noodles and sauce were the key attraction here.
Good Japanese flavour with the shoyu, unlike the miso which was more subtle and not so easily identified. The noodles were cooked well and springy, and all the various toppings – Japanese charshu, sliced pork, minced pork, pork balls, deep fried lard and mock abalone – were tender and fresh.
Tong Kee Chicken Rice has moved to the new Margaret Drive Hawker Centre. Be prepared to queue for their popular roast chicken!

They seriously did everything very well, and with pride. Very nice.
The roast pork and char siew are generally nothing to write home about.
the usual fare from HK street old chun kee, good and inexpensive.
I have to say my trip to Tanglin Halt Food Centre was a double winner with Ayam Penyet from Warung O.M.C. and Kuih from Queenstown Lontong! If you’re popping by for your takeaway, the best time is in the afternoon before 3pm during this circuit breaker season.
The bee hoon and other offerings are rather run-of-the-mill so you can skip these and head straight for the fried chicken wings which are the main highlight here.
