If you prefer the old-school style with a combination of yellow noodles with Bee Hoon and a wetter, creamy gravy, Chia Keng Fried Hokkien Mee might fit you.

The sweet and quite spicy chilli really added another dimension to the noodles when mixed in. I couldn’t stop eating – one of the best Hokkien Mee around. No wonder there was such a long wait…
Dry style, old school Hokkien Mee with a history that traces back to the original creators of the dish!
The Hokkien Mee was the bomb. This was the dry and sticky variety, and came with rich flavours, with the noodles soaking up all the flavours of the prawn broth. There was a good mix of mee and bee hoon, providing textural contrast. I gobbled the whole thing up without even touching the chilli.
Overall, a well-balanced plate in terms of flavours and ‘stickiness’.
Kelim Dakdoritang (‘KD”), established in 1965, is one of the oldest and largest Dakdoritang brands with 50 restaurants in Korea just opened its first outlet in Singapore. KD is known for its garlic-loaded spicy garlic chicken stew, which is prepared according to a time-honoured recipe passed down through generations.
There is a minimum order of 10 sticks and we had Chicken, Mutton and Pork Satay, 5 each, making up a total of 15 sticks. The Satay was beautifully charred and the chicken meat was tender and savoury. The mutton Satay was slightly tough but nicely marinated and sweetened. Pork Satay was not too fatty and was succulent.
The orh luah was the soft rather than crispy type. It had a very pleasant eggy flavour, with the fragrance of fish sauce, and was not cloying at all. The oysters were big and fresh – solid stuff. The chilli was a nice complement to the orh luah – sweet and slightly piquant, with just a hint of spiciness. The only drawback here was that there was a bit pooling of oil/sauce at the bottom. Nice.
the braise platter of duck and belly pork was also good standard, better than expected..
we had 8 dishes…the vegetarian goose, braised duck, 梅菜扣肉, teochew cai poh fried kuay teow & 水晶包were good
It had enough wok hei, lovely charred crisp bits and a generous amount of plump, juicy oysters of a good size. Worth a try too! Especially with lashing of their vinegary chilli sauce.
do get a bowl of cheng tng to go along with the other delicious food at the food centre!
Brunch at Two Tall Trees was a pleasant affair. The food is more than decent and the coffee is good. The cosy cafe is clearly popular with local residents of all ages.
I'll do an update if I do try those! For now, this place will be a so-so.
The food is really spectacular, rivalling the Italian dishes I had in Europe.
So much of positive reviews on the internet about Xiao Di Fried Prawn Noodle that claims this is one of the Best Fried Hokkien Mee in Singapore motivates me to try this. Since we will be nearby Serangoon area, we went ahead to try out this dish cooked by the 2nd Generation Hawker.
I love that chilli taste but as a whole, we still find that the main subject and focus of the dish should be on the noodles not on chilli.
Xiao Di Fried Prawn Noodles is indeed one of the gems of Singapore’s hawker scene and it is one that has won our loyalty over the years with its consistency.
Apollo Coffee Bar is a lovely space for good coffee and delightful cafe fare. Having a drink or a meal there is a very pleasant experience.
Latte nice and woody. Nice vibes.
Apollo Coffee Bar has got this aspect down pat too, which should be a given, since its older, more established siblings are winners in the cafe scene.
There are a good variety of dishes in the menu and the good thing is that there is no service charge and GST required.

This was just to remind myself that the mushroom sauce wasn't as good as Aston's and that I should never choose it again.
Overall, iSTEAKS Diner is definitely a place to go for quality and no fuss steak. We personally recommend that you order the grilled meat from the four-legged animals, compare to the rest. Cheers!!
It probably wouldn't have a queue before 12pm. The queue continued all the way till 230pm on a weekend. The place seemed popular with families and young adults.
Would definitely return for the premium pork loin tonkatsu.
Overall, if you are looking for high-grade Tonkatsu that melts in your mouth, Hajime is a must try. The version of the ramen here is more subtle and soothing, instead of those with knock out flavour. I am just so glad it is near my home. Kanpai!! Cheers!!
We at NAHMJ no doubt highly recommend Hajime Tonkatsu and Ramen. If I thought of Tonkatsu, I thought of Hajime. I will surely return for the Premium Pork Loin and Ebi Fry Ramen.
I can totally understand my colleague's obsession with the roti pratas from this stall; it was one of the best kosong prata I had, with the enjoyable crispiness matched with the size of it.
Will I Return Again? Yes, to crispy and shiok kosong prata.
Another good place for a prata meal especially if you are after thin and crispy prata.
This place (59 Serangoon Garden Way, 6284-0800) has been around for so long that my last visit there probably predates this blog. I recall it being much bigger back then, although I'm not entirely sure what else has changed.
For Pow Sing, besides having a long history since 1983 and being committed to sharing the taste of Hainanese Chicken Rice to fellow Singaporeans, the new experiences in their menu are worth trying too.
Food at Zuzu Kebab is Turkish cuisine, with a focus on kebabs. There's a good range of options here, though most folks order the staples.
Despite the waiting time, Zuzu Kebab delivers quality food that is also generous in portion. With so many other options to try on the menu, I’m 100% making a return to give the rest of them a go one at a time!
We really enjoyed our experience here, and are making plans to come back to try more dishes.
Spiky and odoriferous, no other fruit can divide a room (or clear it) quite like the durian. But if you’re a dedicated devotee of the King of Fruits and find yourself searching for an off-season durian fix, we have a royal treat for you.
