We also ordered the lamb with lime sauce…and I only found out that night that they had mayonnaise in it with the lime. It was nice but I think it was nicer when we had it before – the meat was not grilled that well enough.

The giant udang galah (freshwater prawns)…that we also had on her birthday and I loved it so so much, a lot more than the lobster that we had that night and lining the side of the platter were these birthday eggs…served with some very nice special sauce.

Ordered their famous sweet and sour fish. This is o chio (ikan bawal hitam) for RM 26. It’s a pretty good sized fish and it’s been deep fried so all the bones and fins are edible. I love their sweet and sour sauce too

We love their beef pies a lot so I ordered one (RM9.00)…to share for the simple reason that we all had our own individual orders and yes, it was, as always, very nice. I do wish though that they would do something about the presentation, some lettuce and cherry tomatoes by the side or a couple of slices of tomato and cucumber perhaps to give it a bit of colour, if nothing else, instead of serving it on its own just like that…and they could have used a smaller plate, a saucer perhaps – the pie is not that big!

We should have stopped there but I saw they had ladies’ fingers and I asked for that too, fried with sambal hay bee/udang kering (dried prawns)…and it was really good – I am pretty sure we would want to order that again the next time we drop by.

The kampua mee was in a bigger bowl and the soup…came in an even bigger one, not the usual aluminium bowl that was somewhat small. I sure enjoyed both the noodles and the thick and rich soup with a whole lot of meat, beef tripe and beef tendon in it.

I had their curry lamb rice (RM20.90)……which was all right as well. Their lamb curry…that took a long time coming, for reasons unknown, was nicer than what I had the other day but they certainly were not very generous with the meat and it was not spicy at all. I was thinking of the very much nicer authentic North Indian mutton biryani here the whole time for just 10 sen more, RM21.00 and the biryani rice is anytime a lot nicer than the plain rice with a sprinkling of fried shallots or whatever on top…or the just-as-nice Bangladeshi lamb curry (RM19.00 only with rice) here. The brinjal fritters and the onion rings failed to save the day – I remember enjoying the rice sets here (RM16.90) and what they have by the side there a whole lot more.

I asked for the big one (RM5.00)…the one with the salted egg yolk inside…and a bit of meat, not a lot but at least, there was meat unlike some around here that I had had the displeasure of eating. I also tasted a bit of the shitake mushroom as I was eating but what I loved most of all was the glutinous rice – not undercooked and hard and not overcooked and soggy and over-sticky, just perfect.

Mee udang (prawn mee) I thought it was very nice and for RM9.00 while others are going for RM15.00 and above for one not-all-that-big prawn (medium), some places RM45.00 for one and a half and others even more than that where you will get one giant prawn (RM60.00), just one, I sure would not mind coming back again for this when I feel like it.

Now, the moment of truth – the noodles (RM5.00)…Yes! It most certainly got my nod of approval and tasted exactly like how I would cook it at home. I sure enjoyed that! Even the fried egg was done the way I like it, the yolk still runny and the golden fringe all along the edges.

My missus had the beef noodles…Taiwanese-style that we used to enjoy a lot, my girl especially but since there are noodles in it and probably soy sauce as well, my girl cannot have that any longer. The mum said that it was still good, just like before so that probably would be one of the crowd pullers at this place.

The chicken curry and the pickles (RM6.50)…were all right as well but if it is the authentic Indian biryani rice with all the fragrant spices and what not, then perhaps, you should try elsewhere. This one is quite typical of the nasi biryani at the Malay shops and stalls, nice colour, tastes great but not quite there.

I just asked for the char kway teow, dry…and asked for chili to be added. Unfortunately. that seemed to fall on deaf ears – there wasn’t any chili in it nor was I given any chili sauce or freshly-cut chili in soy sauce. It tasted all right but no, there are others elsewhere a whole lot nicer

Bateras Food Court Sarawak laksa I remember I did enjoy it somewhat the last time I had it a long long time ago and yes, I thought it was o.k. too this time around, not the best in town and definitely not the worst and no, I wouldn’t say that I would go out of my way to come all the way here for this.

Mee mamak (RM6.00)…from another stall there and yes, it was good but I did not think there was anything that would put it a cut above the rest elsewhere in town. I guess it was pricier, RM6.00, mind you, because of the prawns and though they were nice and fresh, I am not all that fond of these supposedly cheaper hard shell ones.

However, the main reason why I wanted to bring my daughter here for dinner was because I wanted her to enjoy their roast rack of lamb served with mint sauce and some garlic and ginger dip……and my girl enjoyed it to the max. It sure looked like they had worked on improving their presentation……too but no, it did not come cheap – I had to fork out RM50.00 for the three thick slabs but one thing I must say is that I am pleased that that was exactly the same price I paid way back in 2014 for two much bigger slabs of the meat and after all these years, it was as good as it was then.
