Something closer to Chinese flavours is the Biang Biang Inspired Noodle (RM18) that reminds me of spicy pan mee. A simple yet extravagantly flavoured dish loaded with Szechuan chilli oil and toasted peanuts which is the epitome of soul food for me.

The Char Kuey Teow was really good. I can understand why many food bloggers rated Lai Foong to have one of the Top 10 Fried Kuey Teow in downtown KL. The noodles were well cooked and tasty, came accompanied with egg + cockles + fishcakes + Chinese sausages + lard + prawns + taugeh. Here, when you order LARGE, you’d get LARGE, Lots of noodles. I ate it all anyway since I was really hungry. Burp!

Order South China Sea as it seems crowds favorite @ RM 36. Serve with 63 degree poached egg, housemade hash and salsa. Quite a huge chunk of salmon that is serve, looks great in the picture. It is under season, quite pale in flavour and overcook too. Mix of salsa is a bit confusing, filled with apple, capsicum and the fried hash that looks like being fried in a long serving oil that gives such colour and quite at the base plate. I try to finish my salmon, and I guess I gave up along the way. Turns out to be quite disappointing.

Pisco Bar Restaurant

29 Jalan Mesui Bukit Bintang 50200 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

By visiting Pisco Bar you will be able to taste today what the rest of the world will be eating tomorrow. Today, Peruvian cuisine has two main icons in the world. The first one is certainly Cebiche. The second, which you may already know, is undoubtedly Pisco Sour. But what is new about Pisco Bar, though, is the approach to Peruvian cuisine, as it recognizes its influences and proposes a significant variety of some of the most succulent Spanish tapas. Peruvian cuisine has been praised by the Spanish superstar Ferran Adrià and is quickly finding its rightful place in the world food scene. Peruvian cuisine, as with Malaysian food, is a unique blend of indigenous and colonial cookery traditions. With influences from Andean to Spanish, Japanese and Chinese to African and Italian.

Crispy Chicken with Creme Sauce, 21 ringgit. This was similar to the creamy pesto sauce dish we’ve had previously. I remember liking that one and was looking for something similar, so I decided to give this dish a go. Pasta and sandwiches were not of interest to me today, so yea. This was delicious. The crispy boneless chicken bits and the creamy sauce complimented each other well. The chicken on its own, would have been pretty dry, however, add on the creamy sauce and you would get a burst of flavors and textures. The creme sauce itself came with spices and a lil milky sweetness, it had an overall tasty flavor to it. It resembled thick butter chicken sauce but totally different in flavor. Overall, a delicious dish. Loved it.

Cajun Butter Shrimp, 19 ringgit. The rice bowl was simply yummy! It tasted like a combination of tasty fried rice + sweet buttery sauce + 6, 7 medium sized prawns + egg + crunchy crumbs. Very nice. I truly enjoyed this dish. My friend and I, between the two of us and the first few spoons of this rice bowl – you’d here ‘omaaaaagod’, ‘ yummmmmm’, ‘this is gooood’ … yup, that sums up how much we enjoyed it. Since I decided to pass on the fine print, consider me surprised. I was especially so to find the thick, sweet butter sauce in the rice and at the bottom of the bowl and they provided me with plenty, enough for me to slurp it up. When you mix it all up, for me at least – it tasted like yummy fried rice with sweet, gooey butter sauce gravy and chewy prawn + egg. I’d certainly go for this dish again.

A hearty meal that is a staple for most local Chinese families, the Hokkien mee RM9.50 is presented on a banana leaf-lined plate and is ultra-popular largely because of oodles of prawns, pork, squid and generous helpings of lard fritters. Inspired by the Opium regimes of the east, the interior speaks for itself. Furnished with age-old artifacts such as an opium bed in the Rose Room, opium pipes and huge Chinese wine pots displayed vividly at the Communal area, the outlet aspires a 1930s-1960s look and feel. The Hokkien Mee was drier than usual (their signature style), pleasantly aromatic with a subtle saltiness. It derived most of the flavor from the pork meat, offal and prawns that went into frying the noodle as well. We tried two versions, one offal and the other without, and the one with offal was noticeably tastier. Overall, the Hokkien Mee was alright, not great but definitely better than what Kim Lian Kee churns out – by a mile.

The noodles didn't feature that overwhelming alkaline taste detested by many friends, the texture complemented perfectly with the thick glossy black sauce and the wok hei was obviously a key player in upping the taste / smell factor!

My evening at Neroteca was not only filled with good food and great company, but also a splendid showcase of Italian Chef Mirko's specially crafted new menu. I was treated to some of their best-selling dishes, mostly in pork-licious proportions, with plenty of chit-chatter in between.

Love the smooth, simple chee cheong fan, served in a bed of rich, mildly spicy curry sauce, flavoured up with aroma of minced dried shrimp.

The Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng was suggested to me by the kind lady who sat on the table next to us, seemed to be a regular patron and so, we took her advise. Glad we did. It was goooooood. As mentioned above, do remember to request for extra sambal though, the usual serving was hardly enough. The fried chicken either came in thigh or drumstick and since I am a sucker for more meat, lol – the thigh seemed ideal. It was tender, juicy, crispy and a perfect addition to the nasi lemak. Overall, a yummy dish.

Tried their Caramelized Banana Waffle RM16. Freshly made, crispy at the outside, warm and fluffy soft inside, topped with lightly-burned banana and cream. Not bad. Suggest to add a scoop of gelato for more satisfying dessert treat.

It’s becoming more and more difficult to eat well and healthy these days. At Cafe 55, we do not pretend to be a healthy or organic cafe, but we do take pains to source for the most healthy options, reducing sugar and carbohydrates as much as possible and totally no preservatives and food flavourings/MSG. Throughout our journey, we will from time to time introduce new items to our menu where we will serve food that all of us can eat everyday.

For just RM10, you get to try out their 62 °C Hainan Breakfast. It is like the telur goyang we always have in kopitiam or mamak stall, but Cafe 55 presents it with modern twist. Double poached egg, placed on top of toasted bread sandwiched with homemade kaya and butter. Finished with shoyu dressing and scallion.

Croque Monsieur, 20 ringgit. The Croque Monsieur is their popular dish and came recommended. It consisted of bread, turkey ham, cheddar cheese, mornay (cheese sauce?). This was delicious. Do make sure you have an empty stomach though because this sure is filling. I was halfway through and already felt stuffed. So, be warned. The melted cheese on the top – I am soooo a fan. Just biting into that layer of cheese + bread + turkey ham … yummmm!

Nasi Kunyit Served with Curry Chicken (RM 19.50) Not just that, we tried their Nasi Kunyit which is served together with the Curry Chicken. One can taste the fragrant taste of the nasi kunyit. Once, you drenched the creamy coconut-based curry into the rice, they are really good and addictive.

The Nasi Kerabu Baba Fried Chicken (RM17.00), came with a serving of blue rice topped with sweet and spicy coconut sauce, half a hard-boiled salted egg, acar and salad, grated coconut, fish keropok, and fried chicken. The chicken was succulent on the inside, cripsy outside, and the acar added a sour twang to the overall sweet dish.

It was pretty fun hanging out with bunch of friends at The Deceased, except the place was a little bit hot because there was no A/C at the al fresco area. But I think the cocktails were pretty good. My personal favorites? Tea of Oblivion and The Medium.
