Love the curries, aromatic, punch with flavour of spices and the spicy is really spicy. I was eating till sweating and need to order another drink after that. Indeed it is quite different from Pavilion outlet as the original outlet of Nasi Lemak Ong on Kedah is definitely top notch.
They key to the success is the curry gravy. You will be offered to pick either the spicy or non-spicy. If you are non-heat tolerant, it is better to stay off from the spicy curry. It tasted mild in the beginning but the heat will slowly pile up, causing a mild level of numbness which someone like me who enjoys chilies feel the heat. A plate above with fried chicken, okra, a fried egg with yellow rice caused RM 8. The dishes were alright but it was the curry gravy that scored the winning point.
The curry is famous for reasons. It has a balance of sweet, sour, spicy, and the texture is sleek. We practically drench our plate of rice with all the curry, and to a certain extend almost drink it directly. As we were not an adept in taking fish head, we have fish meat instead, which was nice, firm and flaky. Price is based on market price, so we were charged RM 17 for the portion we had.
My plate of sotong kembang, ayam goreng with bendi come to RM 14.20 in total. Well, the price did not run much from my expectation. Taste wise, I am quite pleased with the flavour portfolio that yielded from the curry concoction. It gives a semi-light taste without overwhelming or surfeiting sensation, much pleasing to the taste buds when coupled with the rice.
While taste-wise, the foods aren't as impressive as we hoped... there are rooms for improvement.
Cheese Pisang Goreng sold by a modest stall outside of Restoran Nasi Kandar CM313 Alor Setar are impressive. Manned by a young Malay couple, the fried bananas are topped with generous quantity of shredded cheese (RM 3), or you can have it with a combo of shredded chocolate (RM 6) as well. The fried bananas are nothing spectacular but the shredded cheeses and chocolates really gave it a boast. It was akin like enjoying a tonne of cheese and chocolate.
