The Wok-fried Penang char koay teow (RM24) here was surprisingly good; the flat noodles certainly had "wok hei", fried with large prawns, squid, chives, beansprouts and chillies for a slight heat.

Beta KL Restaurant

168 Fraser Place No 10 Jalan Perak 50450 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

BETA is a brainchild of five dynamic individuals behind the vibrant Malaysian-inspired Modern European restaurant, Skillet@163. BETA (in Greek βήτα or letter β) simply means number 2 and a representation of the second outlet. In the Malaysian context, BETA is a royal salutation for kings or sultans, which basically means ‘I’ or ‘me’.

On the other hand, Baby D's favorite was the Duck Spaghetti (RM28) with confit tomato and quinoa. Of course this ain't no ordinary pasta - the duck is braised with spices and wood ear fungus. It tastes just like the braised Hakka pork dish, only this is made with duck since the restaurant is pork-free. The quinoa gives extra texture to the dish and the tomatoes are slowly cooked with assam boi (and the result is amazing, a mini umami bomb).

Chicken @ RM 45, add on with bentong ginger and lotus crips. As for this dish, I have no idea what to say as for us being local, we had too much street food and I felt that I am just eating “atas” Hainanese Chicken. not much twist of it. Too normal for my liking even knowing the meat is sous vide.

Their Sambal Fish was so delicious. It was truly one of the best that I have tasted. Been so long that I had food this good. Truly miss these places as it has been so long. The fish was slightly on the spicy side and came with some thick gravy. 10/10 is my rating for this. Similarly, their Fish Roe was another one that won my heart. Verdict? Never go to Kudu during Ramadhan month. The chicken is extremely hard - presumably from reheating the food due to low demand during Ramadhan month. Oh the chicken is rock hard I assure you can kill someone by throwing at them. The okra is clearly undercooked it wouldn't break apart when you bite it! Another colleague ordered the chicken drumstick, it is so small like which is as big as the Eclipse mint box! So pathetic.

Old China Cafe Restaurant

11 Jalan Balai Polis 50000 Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

Welcome to our café-restaurant that serves Southeast Asian cuisine that is a combination of Straits Chinese and Malay delicacies. The premises was formerly the guild hall of the Selangor & Federal Territory Laundry Association. The guild was set up at the turn of the century and moved to this part of Chinatown in the 1920s. The two large mirrors that face each other are traditional feng shui mirrors that the Chinese believe would perpetually reflect good luck. Many of the architectural details of the building have remained unchanged, even the doors to the kitchen still have wooden latches. This type of pre-war shophouses may not exist much longer. Several units in the neighbourhood (Jalan Balai Polis, Jalan Panggong and Jalan Petaling) have either been demolished or renovated beyond recognition, in order to keep up with modern times. Old China Café tries to maintain a semblance of the Chinese community’s old social life is fading into history. The patina of age contributes to the ambience. This café is to remind us of the hard work carried out by the early Chinese settlers of Kuala Lumpur way back in 1857 when tin was first mined in Ampang. Their labour benefited KL greatly and laid the foundation for a successful commercial centre.

Salted Egg with Kunyit Sotong, 13 ringgit. However, between the fish and sotong dish – I fancied the ‘sotong’ dish more. The squids were finger licking good. Just like the fish, the it was marinated in turmeric as well and boy was it flavorful. Just look at them ‘sotongs’ , yummmm! It was all crunchy on the outside and all soft and chewy on the inside. Now, this dish, I’d certainly give it another go. It certainly provided me with a burst of flavors. Loved it.

Unagi Tamage Donburi - This was extremely disappointing - the unagi has a lot of bones. So many that we had to page the staff to inform them of this situation. The staff only said "it's normal to be like that". I'm not sure if they are trained to speak that way, but that's certainly not right. Also, there was no offer to change / remove it off the bill for such a amateur mistake. For an upscale restaurant, bones should be completely removed. If not don't serve it at all. I complained via Instagram and the handler responded with a more positive note - to prepare another bowl on the house the next time I return. This is a great way to let us know that they can do better than that. I haven't actually gone back for food every since - maybe next time. Thanks for handling it well!

I don't understand, their food ain't fantastic to be charging prices like Chillis, it's slightly better than Pappa Rich perhaps but charging rocket high prices. If you deliver the right portion it would make much more sense. Sorry Dome, doesn't make sense for a cafe to charge that kind of price. Still, there are a lot of patrons are fine with paying something that's not great in value. Although I have to admit, their food quality is satisfactory.
