The regular ice kacang is topped with 3 fruits of the day, and one of the ice cream available (if we recall correctly, it would be either peanut or vanilla). We picked Nasi Kerabu, which is Li Er own invention variant of Nasi Kerabu with blue pea rice that topped with shredded fried chicken, lettuce and great combination of sambal. Overall flavour of the meal is refreshing, and we particularly enjoyed the fluffy rice coupled with the crisp lettuce, then a little spiciness from the sambal heighten the taste even more.

Many would pass by Li Er Cafe without noticing its presence, it has got to be one of the low-key cafes in town. The name has been established for quite a few years and has since garnered an appreciate following. Most regular patrons are back for their Nyonya Kuih, particularly their catering service that offers outstanding presentation. They are able to customize your orders based on the number of diners and it goes as low as a few pax. While they are known for the Nyonya Kuih, their daily offering is not to be forsaken as well; the daily specials include traditional-dishes with a modern touch. Notable highlights include Nasi Kerabu, Tom Yum Bee Hoon, Nasi Lemak Special, Nasi Kunyit, Jawa Mee etc.... at unbeatable prices. Though not everything is praise-worthy, the effort in plating and presentation is applaudible. Li Er Cafe is housed in one of the shop houses along Jalan Burmah, facing the junction to Bangkok Lane.

It is served using brown rice, and the chef has done a tremendous great work on the grilled chicken breast as the texture was moist and tender, contrary to the expectations we had. The sprinkles of parsley and paprika spices also further elevate the taste of entire plate of dish.

Just Moist is a dish dedicated for meat lovers, particularly steak lovers. The dish consists of a perfectly seared Rib Eye, served over a bed of mashed Sweet Potatoes, sauteed Shitake Mushrooms, blanched Broccoli and Cherry Tomatoes. The Steak was perfectly cooked... tender to the bite and carefully seasoned to the dot. Our only complain was the measly serving portion (can't help with a mere Rm 25)

The Baking Garage (at Lembah Permai) is not new, in fact, we have been wondering if they would move their business operations nearer to central Georgetown... and we are glad they did! Not only running as a bakery, the new branch at New World Park (known as Sin Seh Kai Artisan Bakery) actually offers a seemingly impressive brunch menu. The kitchen closes at 2:30 pm and by then, only light snacks shall be served (no heavy menu), so plan your time accordingly. It's easy to find Sin Seh Kai, the place is covered in transparent glasses with an open-kitchen, while the other side of the cafe is dedicated for diners dining-in the cafe. The setup is simple and straight-forward but the real pull factor is the wide range of home-made Pastries and artisan bread.

The newly opened Sous Vide Urban Cafe at New World Park is probably one of the cafes with most shareholders, it uses the concept crowdfunding and provides a community space for its guests/ members to mingle/ dine-in. There are small function rooms available to host meetings or gatherings either. The name- Sous Vide sure rings a bell, while most items on the menu are Sous Vide related; not all dishes are cooked using that method. Probably in soft-launch period, the menu is fairly small and there are plenty of rooms for improvements as far as food quality is concerned.

Overall, Living Room offers a nice ambience to dine at. The taste of certain food here is nice especially the Kam Heong pasta and Red Wine Stew Beef which are my favorites. These dishes will be my in my order list when I visit next time.

It was previously a row of old, heritage houses right smack in the heart of Georgetown but has since refurbished and turned into this beautiful, colonial-styled building. But incredible to think many are not aware on its existence, probably the one-way street of Jalan Khoo Sian Ewe is an unmarked and unexpected location to most Penangites. Snugged at one corner of Areca Hotel is its in-house cafe- Areca Cafe (not obvious from outside and could easily walk past without noticing it), a quaint dining space with simple but elegant setting. Apart from serving breakfast to its hotel guests, it offers a promising Western-Fusion menu to the public as well. The menu is small but generally covers everything you need, whether choice of Chicken, Fish, Beef etc (dinner menu is only available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays).

ÉNFD is an abbreviation of 'Énfold'- pronounced as 'unfold' with a meaning of 'gather and envelop' people through good food. It runs like a private kitchen, though walk-ins are welcome, the dining space is limited and could only host no more than 15 diners at a time. The dining hall preserves the sense of heritage with minimal interior decor; probably meant to encourage and enhance camaraderie amongst diners. It is a space that one could really talk and engage with each other. On the menu, the list of magical offering is unique and creatively crafted by the team behind ÉNFD; with focus on using Herbs and Spices ('local flavors') to intermingle with international flavors. The conservatives will find the menu too playful and to me, this is the attitude in lacking especially in the culinary scene in Penang. The brunch menu is only available on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 am to 3 pm.

The famous Puppy Chocolate Mousse does not come cheap... selling at Rm 30 per piece. It served to us frozen hard so the Mousse had the texture of Ice Cream. It was pretty chocolaty and delicately sweetened. It gets pretty surfeit due to its creamy nature so sharing is wiser. Was it worth it? Only for novelty experience, a hefty piece of Chocolate Mousse is not something you would want to eat on a regular basis.

Possibly a new hangout space for your four-legged animal friends to mingle with their own species- Wag N Romp is a new pet cafe ensconced in an annex right next to an established Pet Center- Dogs R Us... along Kelawai Road. The cafe is fully air-conditioned and with a few friendly dogs roaming the cafe, this is indeed a comfortable space for dog lovers to pet their canine friends. On our visit, there were Golden Retriever, Corgi, Poodle etc; different dogs "on duty" on different days. Wag N Romp has a small menu on offer, which basically covers basic cakes, pasta and a waffle dish. While the foods were not that impressive, we were happy to see that the fur kids were warm and excited to welcome their human friends.

Teriyaki Chicken and Sesame Pasta was probably the best scorer of the day but it was a misnomer. We were expecting a dry Pasta with Teriyaki sauce as seasoning but it was in fact, a cream-based Pasta topped with Teriyaki Chicken. The sauce was alright- creamy and perfectly seasoned but the Linguine was slightly overcooked (a little too soft to our liking).

Another best brekkie specialty is the Grill Salmon & Scrambled Egg. A surprise indeed as its visual does not prepare one’s guests for the fish dish. The marinated salmon rolled into the shape of sausage goes through a grilling cooking process, and served with scrambled egg on top of a slice of wholemeal baguette. A tasty Hollandaise sauce prepared from egg yolks accompanies it well.

As we had two pieces of cakes, we thought of having something light - Wholemeal Baguette with Grilled Salmon & Eggs (RM 22.90). The dish is appealing aesthetically and the taste is more on the mediocre side. The salmon was purposely rolled to resemble to shape of the sausage and topped with hollaindaise sauce, but it would be great if the salmon is served warmer. We are a little skeptical on the claim that the bread is baguette, as it was soft and not chewy at all.
