It has been unbearably hot here lately and the cold and refreshing pomelo salad (RM8.00)ā¦that we had was definitely a welcome relief.
For something a little stronger and spicier, I had their lamb curry (RM19.00, with rice)ā¦
Tried the green curry chicken (RM16.00 with rice)ā¦and instantly declared that it was very nice
On the other hand, Basque Burnt Cheese Cake (RM 14) has an overall nice taste, retaining a nice custardy and creamy texture in the centre, though the crisp and burnt sensation was lacking at the exterior.
Here's the location.
I went for the fish & chips, sea bass (RM38.00)ā¦the instant I saw in the menu that it wasnāt dory and yes, it was really good.
I also ordered their seafood pasta aglio olio (RM28.00)ā¦and yes, this was very good, very generous with the herbs used and that gave it a really nice fragrance and flavour. They use their own-made pasta here ā I always see them sharing the photographs on their Facebook page and it looked like there were two types in what we had ā yellow and greenā¦
We ordered the Ceasar salad (RM18.00)ā¦to share and the moment it was served, my girl remarked that the egg would surely get my nod of approval. Indeed, I was delighted to see the soft, runny yolk. Perfegg!!!
My girl wanted their pizza mascarpone but they were out of the vegetable for the topping, the aragula so in the end we settled for their Pizza Prosciutto e Funghi (RM32.00)ā¦that we had here before and yes, the one here was all right as well.
Sarawak Kolomee (second famous food in the shop) RM5.00 ā dried thin noodles serves with red pork slices and prawn. The noodle itself is springy while covered with fragrant oily shallot and onion flavor, has a very smooth texture which makes you keep slurping for more similar like having a bowl of Indomee (but premium ones in this case), while the generous amount of pork slices and prawn toppings just made the overall kolomee even more enjoyable. š
I remember having the kolo mee here before and it was good and that morning, I asked for the special (RM6.00)ā¦and even though I would not say it was the best in town, it was definitely kolo mee, not kampua mee in disguise.
I also asked for his pian sip (RM3.00)ā¦and this, I would say, was good, as good as any of the good ones I have had around town.
Ordered their famous sweet and sour fish. This is o chio (ikan bawal hitam) for RM 26. Itās a pretty good sized fish and itās been deep fried so all the bones and fins are edible. I love their sweet and sour sauce too
The long beans fried with eggā¦was so very fragrant ā how come we do not get that when we fry our own at home, I wonder. I would prefer slicing the vegetable more thinly though so it would be much easier to chew.
I went for the sizzling nasi biryani with beef rendang (RM15.90)ā¦except that it was not sizzling when it was served but I really enjoyed itā¦a lot!
This bowl of stewed pork rice (RM7.90)ā¦that I would not mind ordering sometimes as they do it pretty well here plus the complimentary soupā¦with tiny cubes of tofu and sweet corn that comes with some of their dishes is very nice as well.
My girl wanted their sizzling barbecued honey spare ribs (RM25.20)ā¦so of course, whatever she wants, she gets! It was as nice as before and had the very familiar corn-on-the-cob and sweet peas but instead of the wedges, they now served this bowl of potato gratinā¦in a bowl separately alongsideā¦and yes, my girl loved that too. She was worried initially that she would not be able to finish as the serving was huge and would probably have to enlist my help but her fears were absolutely unfounded ā she licked everything clean! LOL!!!
We love their beef pies a lot so I ordered one (RM9.00)ā¦to share for the simple reason that we all had our own individual orders and yes, it was, as always, very nice. I do wish though that they would do something about the presentation, some lettuce and cherry tomatoes by the side or a couple of slices of tomato and cucumber perhaps to give it a bit of colour, if nothing else, instead of serving it on its own just like thatā¦and they could have used a smaller plate, a saucer perhaps ā the pie is not that big!
My girl ordered their chicken meatballs with BBQ sauce and mashed potatoesā¦and yes, the meatballs were good, complemented by the delightful sauce but in her opinion, the mashed potatoes here or here are a cut above this one.
My daughterās barbecued chicken with fruit salad and baked wedges (RM15.90)ā¦with rosemary sauce was done to perfectionā¦and yes, she too enjoyed her order in no small measure.
My girl and the mum wanted the kampua meeā¦while I had the mee pok
I asked for a bowl of the beef soupā¦to share and yes, it was very nice
My cousin loves the kampua here and so do many other people. Iām not such a huge fan since theyāre not the most authentic version. Rasa Sayang uses the curly kolo mee noodles and minced meat.
Minus the fragrance of the spices, it was more like plain soy sauce broth. Otherwise, everything was fine with it ā letās just say this is one place to consider if you are in this part of town and you feel like having kueh chap. I had the special (RM8.00) but I asked for an extra stewed egg so that was RM9.00 altogether.
We all had the nasi ayam penyet (RM5.50)ā¦and yes, it was very good ā I loved it and I liked how the vegetables were lightly blanched ā they would just serve them raw at most, if not all, of the other places and I am not entirely fond of long beans that way.
All in all, I would say it was all right even though the cucur wasnāt the way it should be and it was not all that nice, actually. I may go for it should I happen to be around there but no, Iām afraid you will not see me going out of my way to eat this.
My missus had their mee mamak (RM5.00)ā¦and she enjoyed it
The pork meatballs (RM10.00)ā¦were really good
So I ordered the one here (RM7.50)ā¦- the Hainanese curry chicken rice to try. It was all right ā I felt that the curry gravy was a little too thick with too much santan (coconut milk). There was no char siew (barbecued pork) but they did give a few slices of those freshly-made Chinese sausage
This is simply the Musang King of Hainan chicken rice, too delicious!
We ordered Cheezy Chicken (RM 16.90) to fill our stomach as there was no main dishes. It features bahn mi / baguette stuffed with chicken slices, cheese and egg. Clearly the food was prepared early and get heated using microwave, as the surface still feel lukewarm while the interior filling is hot. The taste was monotonous, and the overall texture was dry. Not something that I would look for during second visit.
Now, talking about history repeating itself, I had the roast duck kampua mee then and somehow or other, I ended up ordering it again (RM7.50)⦠Yes, it was very nice and I did enjoy it. I let my girl try the siew yoke and she liked it so much that she insisted on buying some home for dinner. The roast duck was good tooā¦
I ordered the duck kampua with one stewed egg (RM7.00)ā¦from another stall there and yes, I would say it was nice as well just that the noodles was not exactly kampua mee, very thin and more yellowish and it did not taste like it either. Whatever it is in that somewhat small bowl, for that kind of money, I donāt think I will be in a hurry to come back again for more.
The Coffee Code Sibu can accommodate to a maximum of 60 pax, approximately.
The texture of Cornetti Honey Butter Croissant (RM 9.90) was lovely - flaky at the exterior with a nice honeycomb air pockets interior, though stronger butter scent would have made the croissant perfect.
Chill and Relax Cafe Bistro or most people call them Chillax for short is one of the popular places that people recommend to me for dinner and drinks! When I checked out the place ā it was full house but luckily for me ā I made reservations with them before arriving so I got a nice table.
Chicken chop (RM9.50)ā¦with mushroom sauce ā I guess that alone would be quite filling already seeing that the serving here is usually quite big.
I had the fried rice with masak hitam beef (RM8.00)ā¦and that somewhat disastrous-looking fried egg on topā¦but thankfully, the yolk was still soft and runny so never mind the look, it was to my liking even though I am very sure the guy is quite capable of doing a much better job at it like this one that I had here beforeā¦
I had the nasi lemak (RM4.50)ā¦No, this is not my favourite in town ā there is only a slight hint of the lemak-ness (richness owing to the santan/coconut milk added). However, I do enjoy the one here as I would usually request for the curry chicken/beef or masak hitam beef to go with it. Even without those, it is still very nice as they are very generous with the very nice sambalā¦
Breakfast at Ali Papa Cafe today. Ordered this bowl of " crispy pork Noodles (Ban Mian) plus fried dumplings. Yummy. The price is probably around rm6, and it is reasonable.
Of course, I had to buy some bread to eat it with and these days, I love toasting my bread with those grill pans, the one with lines so the toast would have lines on themā¦nicely toasted but not all brown and hard, lightly crusty on the outside, still soft on the inside.
My missus had their seafood aglio olio (RM20.90)ā¦which was very good, much nicer than my girlās carbonara ā one can only eat so much of the latter before one gets jelak. It was a bit too rich and creamy
I tasted it and it sure swept me off my feet! There was this very strong taste of good quality traditional Foochow red wine and she certainly was very generous with the ginger ā I absolutely enjoyed it, my new favourite, I must say and I sure would be making my way there again for more.
And now, the moment of truth ā the rice! No, Iām afraid it was not lemak enough. I could detect the fragrance of the pandan but not the lemak-ness of the santan (coconut milk). All in all, I would say that I did enjoy eating it, mixed with the sambal and everything else but no, you sure would not catch me rushing back for more.
Well, I had this oneā¦the other day and I shared the photograph on Facebook with the caption, āSimply the best!ā My bad! I liked it so much that it just slipped my mind that I should say it was my favourite, it was very goodā¦anything but āthe bestā.
